One of the things that excited us most about bringing great coffee to the beach was the prospect of surfing before and after work and drinking an outstanding cup, still wet from the ocean.  Once we got here we found a friendly, exciting and loyal group of locals, a burgeoning craft beer scene and just as we expected the sun, sand and sea.  Now you can have a nice espresso, coffee, or beer, all while catching up with friends and catching a whiff of the sea breeze.  What could be better than that?  Nothing, I tell ya’.  Nothing.

Southern charm meets Spanish architecture in this peninsular Urban Core neighborhood.  Situated along the banks of the St. John’s river, San Marco boasts an impressive 14 city parks.  Numerous award winning restaurants, a world class brewery, a handful of craft cocktail bars, independent eateries and boutiques line the corridors of this largely residential neighborhood.  This unique district has always been one we’ve been drawn to.  We are super happy to finally be a part of the tight-knit San Marco community and stoked that specialty coffee will now be added to the long list features this neighborhood boasts.

We opened our first cafe in the Riverside neighborhood in December of 2011.  Full of breweries, fine restaurants, bars, art galleries and a cohesive community-focused atmosphere, Riverside is the perfect neighborhood for craft coffee.  Our favorite thing about the neighborhood is the locals.  We are very fortunate to have so many inspiring people call our cafe their regular.

We have been taken away by the pull a great cup of coffee has to connect people, start conversations, and create friendships. Coffee, for us, is about relaxing with friends and family. But we don’t just stop at coffee; come enjoy a glass of wine, cheese board, and live music in our courtyard under the trees just steps from the beach. A coffee shop is more than a restaurant: it’s a community hub.

Our doughnuts and glazes are all handmade from scratch in small batches throughout the day so your doughnut is delicious and fresh whenever you stop in.  And we use only the best ingredients–real, high quality butter, eggs, milk–you get the idea. We also seek out local partners who can offer exceptional ingredients.

We have about a dozen different rotating doughnuts on our menu plus doughnut sandwiches we lovingly call “doughwiches.”  We serve raised/yeast doughnuts, old-fashioneds, chocolate old-fashioneds and cake doughnuts. Our goal is to highlight seasonal and exciting flavors our baking team dreams up.

We now offer vegan doughnuts on Friday until sell out. Why only on Fridays you ask? Well, our kitchen space is limited and we want to make sure our vegan doughnuts are not just called vegan but are truly being made vegan. Only offering them on Fridays ensures there will not be any non vegan menu items fried in the oil before them. So come in on Friday and let us know what you think!

Gone are the days of going to a donut shop and agonizing over which flavor to pick.
You’ll no longer have to convince your friends, family, or significant other to get a certain flavor just so you can try it.

At The Mini Bar, our donuts are about a third of the size of a regular donut. This means you get to try more flavors each visit!  Our donuts are made to order, so you’ll always receive a hot donut in the store. Unlike other donut shops, our hot sign is always on. We will have a set menu of  16 flavors. Some examples include fruity pebbles, samoa, pop tart, maple bacon, and coffee cake

One of our goals with The Mini Bar is to partner with as many local businesses as possible. What’s a donut without really good coffee? We are very excited about partnering with Bold Bean Coffee Roasters for our coffee program. We will be serving a variety of coffee and espresso drinks, and will be making all of the syrups in house.  We have also partnered with local candy shop, Sweet Pete’s, and will have a donut on our menu featuring their famous sea salt caramel popcorn and caramel sauce.

Pura Bean Coffee was founded on the principal of enjoying coffee and life. It all began after several excursions to Costa Rica where we fell in love with the local coffee and lifestyle. As raving fans we decided it would be fun to make our own coffee back home in Jacksonville, FL. Using our daughter’s popcorn popper we began learning the craft of roasting and creating blends of coffee for friends and family. Our obsession grew to roasting coffee for real in the back of our own shop, where we serve up specialty blends from all over the world and deliver to local retailers in our 1979 Orange VW Bus.
To this day we continue the pursuit of providing you that perfect cup, so you slow down, drink coffee and enjoy life!

Rebecca Gonzalez’s grandfather was born on October 4th, 1928. He left Cuba in 1961 to escape communism. He found safety in the United States, a country that welcomed Cubans with open arms. He worked hard all his life to create the “American Dream” for his three daughters. He was the rock of their family and Rebecca’s number one supporter.
