Safe Sitter® Class Description

Safe Sitter® prepares students in grades 6-8 to be safe when they’re home alone, watching younger siblings, or babysitting.

Students learn life-saving skills such as how to rescue someone who’s choking, and helpful information like what to do if there’s severe weather. The lessons are filled with fun activities and role-playing exercises. Students even get to use CPR manikins to practice CPR and choking rescue!

THE PLAYERS Center for Child Health (affiliated with Wolfson Children’s Hospital) is pleased to offer this free Safe Kids Buckle Up Workshop for parents and grandparents. Attendees will learn how to keep your precious cargo safe while riding in motor vehicles.

The class will teach you the proper way to install your car seat in your car. Upon completion of the class, certified technicians from Safe Kids will be on hand to help you install your seat correctly in your vehicle.

Growing Together Behavioral Center is one of Jacksonville’s premier schools for children with autism and developmental disabilities. We pride ourselves on being a school where each child is treated as an individual, and educational plans are tailored to their personal needs.

Our school is unique from the public school settings, as we are able to focus on the specific needs of each individual child, whether academic, life skills, or behavioral. We are also unique in that we offer year-round school and extremely low student to teacher ratio (largest class 6:2), both of which are proven methods to help our children work toward their highest level of learning.

At Growing Together we believe that all students affected by autism and other developmental disabilities can reach their fullest potential through an education based in structure, fun engagement with peers, and loving teachers and staff supporting and encouraging them daily. Each child’s individual strengths and challenges are continually assessed to direct the child’s teachers in selecting the best methodologies to target the child’s current needs. This one-night virtual class will enhance what you have already learned in your childbirth preparation class. You’ll have an opportunity to review labor, practice relaxation and breathing exercises, positions, and comfort techniques.

We offer two options for this virtual class:

• 1 Saturday session, 1.5 hours
• 1 weeknight session, 1.5 hours

In this condensed virtual class an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant or Certified Lactation Counselor will teach you the most important evidence based concepts needed to get breastfeeding off to the best start. There will be plenty of time at the end of class to ask questions.

• proper latch and position
• how long and how often to feed
• baby’s feeding cues
• signs that baby is getting enough
• breast care and comfort

My initial introduction to this career was watching the reality show called “Meet the Cromarties”; Antonio Cromartie’s wife was giving birth to his 13th and their 5th baby together. She had an at-home water birth and the engagement of the doula enlightened me. The doula helped her manage the pain with no medication, was supportive and comforting. I was genuinely, in awe.
