Our Aviation Focused STEM Education Program is designed for middle school and high school students ages 11-18 (grades 6-12) who have expressed an interest in aviation and other STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) related topics. Wilma’s Little People’s School was founded in 1973 by Dr. Kay Johnson in order to give students in Jacksonville University’s early childhood courses an opportunity to work with young children. Cesery Park is located in Arlington’s Lake Lucina neighborhood, at the corner of Cesery Boulevard and Columbine Street. The park and boulevard are named for William R. Cesery (1912-1996), a pioneer developer of Arlington who started the trend of building larger apartment complexes in Jacksonville. About 1950, he purchased forty acres for his first subdivision, which took its name from a large water hole that he called Lake Lucina. General Trading Company, whose principals, D.W. and F.W. Tredinick, founded the Jax Liquor Store chain, donated the land for the park to Duval County in 1961. The County created a tot lot for children, and the City took over its operation following consolidation in 1968. A wooden pavilion and picnic tables were added to the park in 1996.

Program Offered:
Lone Star is a tuition-free public high school that operates two sessions per day – morning and afternoon. Students have the opportunity to enroll in the four-hour session that best fits their personal schedule so they have the flexibility to earn a quality education while working, caring for family, or managing other commitments.
Once enrolled, the school works with the student to create a personalized academic plan to graduate, and immediately helps the student to start earning credits as his/her own pace. Courses are computer-based to help the student to focus and track progress, and certified teachers provide individualized support.
The school serves ages 16 to 21. Graduation ceremonies are held in June.
There is no cost to attend. All programs are free.

Concord Park is located in the in the Lake Forest section of northwest Jacksonville, near the intersection of Edgewood Avenue and U.S. Interstate 95. After filing of the first plat in 1926, it was not until around 1944 that development began again in Lake Forest, whose streets and parks exhibit an American Revolutionary War theme. Concord Park is one of two half-oval parks that were named and platted by the developers in 1944. Battles at Lexington and Concord, Massachusetts on April 19, 1775 between the colonial Minutemen and the British redcoats marked the beginning of the War. Through the years, the park has remained a small, neighborhood facility with play equipment for the children, and a major improvement project in 1999 added picnic facilities, new benches, and a water fountain. With several towering pine trees providing shade and visual relief, the park offers a place for fellowship and relaxation.

This park is named after A. Philip Randolph who grew up in Jacksonville and became one of the most important figures of the Civil Rights Movement during the 1950s and 1960s. A life-size bronze statue of Olympic Gold Medallist and Dallas Cowboy star, Bob Hayes, was added to the park in November 2002. Hayes grew up in Jacksonville, less than a mile from the park. Park amenities include playscapes, an amphitheater, picnic tables, benches and restrooms.

Oakland Park is located in the Oakland section of downtown Jacksonville, and has been City property since the 1880’s. Confederate Playground is located near downtown, in the Springfield section of north Jacksonville. First named Dignan Park, for a chairman of the Board of Public Works, it opened in 1907 and contained the City’s first supervised playground. The United Confederate Veterans chose Jacksonville as the site for their twenty-fourth annual reunion in 1914, which was attended by an estimated 48,000 former Confederate soldiers. Many of the activities took place in the park, and five months later it was renamed, Confederate Park. Troops, many from the nearby Armory, used the playground portion of the park for drill grounds and tent/hut encampments during both World Wars. The playground was permanently established as a separate facility from Confederate Park in the 1950’s, and today provides open space and recreational facilities for residents of the Springfield and downtown communities.

Darnell-Cookman Middle/High School, the School of the Medical Arts, provides high performing students an advanced academic curriculum with an overview of the professional medical fields by equipping them with the academic skills and experiences to support their future success in college as an undergraduate who intends to pursue advanced degrees.
The curriculum of our program is college preparatory. Our students are expected to develop a personal vision and plan for a four-year college/university degree with the intent to pursue an advanced degree. The curriculum is advanced, honors and Advanced Placement based. Students at Darnell-Cookman Middle/High School will work closely with faculty members, their peers, and community partners to create an environment that supports creative and independent thinkers through the exploration of real-world connections in the fields of medical practice and is fully grounded in the liberal arts. Students will be prepared for their undergraduate college or university study in any chosen field.

Fletcher’s Tender Care, LLC is a Prescribed Pediatric Extended Care Facility (PPEC) also known as a medical daycare. There are so many families located in the Jacksonville area that have medically fragile children and are not aware of these services. We hire experienced nurses and certified nursing assistants to care for our special needs children while the parents work. We are open from 7a to 6pm, Monday through Friday – children must have Medicaid in order to qualify, we offer transportation to and from the centers, therapies ST, PT, and OT, and music therapy.
