7th St and Ocean Ave Atlantic Beach, FL. 32233

Jax Surf Camp, hosted by Jax Surf & Paddle, is a great way for your little surfer to learn, grow, and have tons of fun this year. Camp is open to any child aged 6-16 who is able to swim. Spring camps run March – April and Summer camps run from June – August. We offer two half-day camps ( Morning 5 sessions M-F or Afternoon 5 sessions M-F), full day (Morning and Afternoon 10 sessions M-F), and single-day camps for both spring and summer sessions to help fit your busy schedule.

Camps feature a 5:1 student-to-teacher ratio in calm conditions, and additional teachers are brought in during any rough conditions. Ocean safety and your little surfer’s safety is a major focus of our day. Keeping your child safe is number one.

Our Spring Camp & Summer Camp location is in sunny Atlantic Beach. The address is 7th St and Beach Avenue, Atlantic Beach, Florida, 32233 (Drop-Off Public Beach Access). We grew up surfing this area and prefer the less crowded and family-friendly location. If needed, park along Beach Avenue, Club Drive, 7th Street, or Ocean Boulevard. Watch out for no parking at the top of beach access!

Camp curriculum consists of learning how to surf and improving the current surfing skill set. Each camp will feature lessons and demonstrations as well as lots of practice.

Lesson Plan: ocean safety, correct stance, pop-ups, proper paddle technique, entering/exiting the ocean, standing up, riding, and falling.

Other activities throughout the week might also include paddleboarding, yoga & stretching, relay races, beach sports, races, exercise, and classroom-style whiteboard sessions. All skill levels are welcome at our camp. After day one evaluation, campers break out into age/skill-appropriate groups to maximize the fun and learning curves for students. If we are familiar with your surfer, we can place them in the appropriate skill-level group. All 5-day camp graduates receive a goody bag and pizza party on Fridays!

At Engineering For Kids, camps are carefully structured to provide your child with the enrichment he or she needs to grow and thrive. Camps run in the spring, winter, and summer for your convenience. Engineering For Kids programs come in many varieties to accommodate your schedule, such as half-day camps, full-day camps, and holiday break camps. They also host camps on scheduled days off for reasons such as professional work days, teacher conference days, etc.

Just a few of these beneficial opportunities include:
  • Teamwork: Most of the camps schedule fun and engaging teamwork activities that teach children the value of investing in others.
  • Resilience and motivation: Challenging programs help to teach kids how to keep trying. This also helps them feel accomplished when they succeed, which develops their will to learn.
  • Decision-making: Uniquely structured activities help children establish and build upon great decision-making skills, which can help build confidence.

In addition, the wide range of activities and classes that are offered encourage children to try new things, which is a beneficial skill that can be applied in several instances throughout adulthood.

At Chamos your child will learn or practice Spanish in a fun and engaging way through experiential learning or role playing (including dressing up!) as the main activity each day. Children will learn about or practice regular activities that will improve their confidence when using Spanish. They will learn the essentials about going abroad in an airplane or ordering food at a restaurant. They will learn about their favorite animal by being Zookeepers or the parts of the body by being doctors! Additionally, games such as bingo, daily crafts, music and physical outdoor activities (Tag with a twist) are included to reinforce the main subject.

We will also have the Chamos Cup! Each group will accumulate points during the week by completing activities, working as a team, helping others, and more. By the end of the week the group with the most points will win the trophy! All communications will be in Spanish, but if they need to use English they will have to go to the “Circulo ingles” (English circle), but this may take points from their team!

Did we mention we will build a piñata to be broken on Friday during the closing ceremony? We will match each child’s need by tailoring our camp to them. We will group our Chamos by age and proficiency. This will provide an enriching environment for them to learn within. A day at our camp will be like no other! Each day children will engage in every game and activity while learning without noticing! We love helping children embrace a second language. Let us help you to provide your child with the added benefits that learning a new language brings while having fun during the summer.

Camps are hourly options each week rather than week long camps. This offers stability of reading instruction over the summer while still allowing vacation or day camp participation elsewhere. The cost is set for affordability. It is $360 for 2 sessions per week for 8 weeks (16 hours of instruction) or $700 for 4 sessions per week for the 8 weeks (saving $40).

The reading camp is designed for struggling readers. There are 2 groups: K-2 and 3-5. EDS uses research based programs that are direct, intensive and repetitive. In the first hour, the student will work on decoding and encoding strategies while in the second hour, the student works on comprehension and written expression. Stability with decoding is necessary before embarking on comprehension instruction. All instruction is fun and rewarding! Join us and make your summer one to remember.

Private tutoring is always available.

Does your child love to paint, sculpt, draw, print, and more? Cultivate their creative abilities in our summer camp. Young artists will observe and explore the artwork in the galleries and gardens, experiment with different art media in the studio, and create and show-off their artwork in an open house each week.

Thanks to the generosity of supporters, the Cummer Museum is pleased to offer a limited number of scholarships for the Summer Camp 2020. Scholarships are intended to provide financial assistance to individuals interested in the arts. If awarded, scholarships cover 100% of the registration cost. Campers applying for a scholarship cannot register for Summer Camp in advance. Once contacted regarding their scholarship status, applicants will be directed to register for Summer Camp through an online Registration Form for scholarship recipients.

In order to be considered for a scholarship, applicants must complete a Scholarship Application Form. If the form is not completed, the applicant will not be considered. Applications will be reviewed weekly and applicants will typically hear back within seven days. This is a rolling application and Scholarships will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis to those who qualify. We encourage you to submit your application as soon as possible, as camp fills up quickly. Students entering grades 1 through 6

Please note that the camper’s parent/guardian is expected to provide transportation to and from the Museum each day as well as lunch and a snack each day.
