Easter Brunch At Home: Delivered (and Curbside)

Enjoying Easter brunch with friends and family is one of the most relaxing and beautiful traditions my family enjoys every year. This year has presented us with the new challenge of the need for social distancing to keep our communities safe. It’s the right thing to do. Yet, it’s still a gut punch to social gatherings and this one feels uniquely hard. But we are learning that our communities are more resilient than ever. We are finding new ways to connect while keeping our traditions and our distance. From virtual church services and egg hunts to Easter brunch, there are so many ways to celebrate and stay close to the ones we love this time of year.

We almost always spend Easter at home with our extended family. We go to church, cook a big meal, do at least one silly craft, have a family egg hunt, and just relax together. This year, church services are online, and we are staying in our own homes. But that doesn’t mean we aren’t going to enjoy spending time together. Here are a few ideas to enjoy Easter brunch in and around your own home, including a guide to local eateries that are offering curbside pickup Easter brunch meals.

Cook Together as a Family

My mom is an infinitely better cook than I am, and I love nothing more than gathering in her kitchen trying to help. It is just magic to me and my kids. Nothing is going to be as good as rolling biscuits with grandma in real life. But this year, we plan to cook together via video chat. It won’t be the same, but it will be fun. You can also do things like host a virtual cake- or cupcake-decorating competition. Menu-plan together and even coordinate food drop-offs. I’m still searching for a way to “accidentally” toss flour at each other virtually. If you think of one, let me know.

Support Local Eateries by Ordering Brunch Takeout

Even though our family typically cooks Easter brunch at home, we have decided we will be picking up food from some of our local eateries that are offering drive-thru and delivery services. Spruce Up Your Easter Brunch Tablescape

Once you have your food squared away, take some time to make your tablescape beautiful. Sure, the place setting may be smaller, but you can still have a fabulously fun time decorating your table for the festivities. My dad always creates beautiful centerpieces, and my children always love helping him with at least one floral arrangement. One of our favorite things to do is source materials from our garden and yard paired with a beautiful vase for a centerpiece. It’s amazing how beautiful assorted sticks, flowers, and leaves can be when artfully arranged — or even a homemade craft from the little ones for the center of the table. For a few pro tips, check out “The Lost Art of Setting a Fancy Table,” and be sure to share your tablescape with us alongside the hashtag #JMEasterBrunch.

Hippity, hoppity Easter is on it’s way! This year is going to be memorable one to be sure — so we might as well make it extra special. Coordinate a dinner start time with friends and family. Bring your favorite video chat device to the table and embrace in a virtual brunch. Or just enjoy the moment with those in your home. However you celebrate, we hope you have a beautiful Easter weekend. Stay home. Stay safe. Stay connected.
