Being Prenatally Prepared With Harmony

Harmony Patient Brochure

Prenatal testing is a sensitive topic for many expectant parents. Some have the viewpoint that if they choose to continue with the pregnancy regardless of what a genetic test might show then why do it? Genetic testing can provide parents with information to help them become better prepared if in fact their child is at high risk for a genetic condition. Having the right professionals lined up could mean less anxiety and worry when baby arrives.

I used to have nightmares about having an amniocentesis. Although my pregnancies were high risk, I thankfully never needed to have one performed. The Harmony Prenatal Testing can substantially reduce the need for unnecessary invasive procedures, such as amniocentesis or chorionic villus sampling (CVS), which can cause anxiety for the mom and potential harm to her baby.

The Harmony Prenatal Test is a non-invasive blood test that analyzes fetal DNA present in mom’s blood. This test has a greater than 99% detection rate for trisomy 21, which causes Down syndrome. It also detects two other genetic conditions, trisomy 18 and 13, which are more rare. The Harmony test provides an individualized risk score that helps a doctor understand if the pregnant patient has a high or low risk for a fetal trisomy. This test is available to moms who are 10 weeks or more pregnant.

If you are leaning toward having testing done take a look at this short video to help educate yourself about the process.
