Top 10 Posts of 2020

As we (finally) wrap up the blazing dumpster fire that has been 2020, we continue to be amazed and humbled at how much Jacksonville Mom has grown and evolved over the years, even during a pandemic. But most of all, we are so very thankful to you, our readers, for your consistent support. Jacksonville Mom has always been, and will always be, for YOU.

That said, we wanted to share our top 10 most-read blog posts from this year along with a few honorable mentions. If you’re anything like us, you don’t exactly want to relive the year — but perhaps you can look back and laugh (too soon?). Or maybe just chuckle… or hell, a smirk will suffice. Happy reading!

Jacksonville Mom Top 10!

COVID 19 Sucks

“My family is only on day two of quarantine, and it has flipped our world upside down. Notice I haven’t even mentioned our own health. It is second-thought right now.”

15 Places to Explore the Great Outdoors In & Around Jax

“We can only ride our bikes in circles around our own neighborhoods for so long. Here is a list of local outdoor spaces (hiking trails included!) you can enjoy while still following social distancing recommendations.”

kobe bryant

“No one should have to find out their loved one died because a self-centered person wanted sympathy on Facebook, or because a giant media outlet callously decided that getting clicks was more important than the effect this news would have on a still-postpartum woman.”

smartphone

“Smartphones are sucking the innocence and joy out of childhood. Technological advances aren’t always ‘advances,’ and these devices are destroying social etiquette, killing spoken conversation, and worst of all, preventing kids from a quiet mind to just wonder.”

“I see my kids four hours a day, and the people I work with, eight. How odd this seems when they’re the most precious thing I’ve ever been given.”

weight loss

“I am not that skinny ripped mom trying to sell you the next miracle weight-loss program, and I have a real love/hate relationship with exercise. I’ve done everything in the book and lost 50 pounds, so I thought I’d share a few things that have worked for me.”

“I want to kill my husband. Like, our marriage may not make it.” And more real-life confessions about the effect this pandemic is having on our parenting and coping skills.

face masks

“Wearing a face mask is a small step we can all take to protect our essential workers, neighbors, and friends. Here is a list of our favorite sew and no-sew tutorials, along with a listing of local shops selling cloth face masks.”

“I’m overwhelmed with living in this half-functioning world where life is seemingly supposed to be getting back to normal but really isn’t, as there are still so many big worries out there and plans are always up in the air.”

body positivity

“My body is perfect. I love it. Is there something you see wrong with my body? ‘Cause I sure as hell don’t see it. I’ve worked really hard to unlearn what society has taught everyone — that only bodies in certain sizes are beautiful.”
