What’s in Your Wallet?

Are you a military spouse like me? If so you have a very important card in your wallet that can save you lots of money – your military ID! Every time you checkout whether it be at a restaurant, signing the kids up for gymnastics or making hotel reservations, always ask “Do you offer a military discount?” There are many discounts available to military families and I want to share with you my favorite military discounts that I use as a mom in Jacksonville.

Welcome to Moe’s!

We all know this delicious restaurant that makes you feel welcome as soon as you open the door. But did you know Moe’s Southwest Grill offer a 10% military discount everyday? Watching your kids scarf down a quesadilla while you enjoy a burrito is even more delicious knowing you didn’t pay full price.

My Gym

My Gym is a children’s gym that provides your little ones a place to get their wiggles out twice a week. Membership allows you to come to one coach-instructed class and one open gym session each week. They offer military families 50% off of their one time lifetime membership fee.

My Gym

TNT Gymnastics

Lyla looks forward to her weekly gymnastics class and has so much fun learning to flip, jump, balance, and do handstands.  TNT offers 10% off class tuition for all military children. If you have multiple children at TNT they also offer a sibling discount.

TNT

Croc Outlet in St. Augustine

My daughters love their Crocs and I love them too. They are easy for kids to put on and easy for moms to clean. My girls love adding jibbitz to them, but I don’t love the price of those tiny jibbitz. What makes it a little easier is that the Croc outlet offers a 10% military discount, so if you are buying shoes and one jibbitz the discount usually offsets the price of the jibbitz making a happy mom and kid!

Sittercity

Military families normally live in cities far away from their families so we always need babysitters! Sittercity offers free membership to their website where you can browse a database of babysitters, read their profiles, run background checks, and read reviews. Sittercity charges $35 per month for membership, but for military…FREE!  Go to here to register.

Jacksonville Zoo

A lot of my friends buy the annual pass to the zoo, but I’ll be honest, I don’t take my kids to the zoo often enough to take advantage of the annual pass. However, I do flash my ID every time I go and get 10% off general admission.

Michaels

Crafty moms, plan your visit to Michaels for Wednesdays. That’s when they offer 10% off of regular and sale priced items.  So let yourself loose on Pinterest knowing you won’t have to pay full price for your craft supplies.

Home Depot and Lowe’s Hardware

I know you ladies shop at hardware stores as frequently as the men. Both of these stores offer 10% off everyday. If you find yourself getting bored during deployment, buy some paint using your discount, and paint your room pink. Your hubby will love that when he gets home.

Regal Cinemas on Beach Blvd.

This theater offers a reduced ticket price of $8.50 versus $10.00 Monday thru Thursday. You know you are paying for a babysitter when you go out on a date, so at least you can enjoy a reduced movie ticket or use the money you saved to buy some candy. Please request a military discount at all movie theaters. Sometimes they will give you the student discount even if they don’t technically offer a military discount. Shhh, you didn’t hear that from me.

SeaWorld

For Lyla’s third birthday we went to SeaWorld. We had so much fun and this is a great park for little kids. The best part, it was totally free!!! They will continue to offer this in 2013 too. Go to www.herosalute.com and register before you go. This is the biggest discount I have found considering admission for one person is about $80. This also applies to Busch Gardens and Adventure Island in Tampa.

SeaWorld

Resorts and Hotels

Whenever I make a hotel reservation, I call and ask if they will give me a military discount. Sometimes they do, sometimes they don’t. Once my hubby and I walked into a very nice hotel that we really didn’t want to pay full price for and thought we would give it a shot. We talked to the manager, flashed our ID and got a great rate. Awesome room at an awesome price!

Tell me moms, what is your favorite place that offers a military discount?

Liz
Liz Morrow is a stay at home mom and wife to a US Navy helicopter pilot. Their Naval family will live many places, but have been fortunate to have a longer than expected eight-year stay in Jacksonville. Liz is a mom of two sweet little girls who look like twins except they were born 2 ½ years apart. She worked as a Certified Public Accountant for seven years before trading her briefcase for a way too big diaper bag. In her spare time, Liz loves to workout, run, cook, blog, and sip wine. She never turns down a date night with her hubby and also loves Girls’ Night Out. She is active in her Officers’ Spouses’ Club (Navy wives) and her Mom-2-Mom group at church, and you will frequently find her helping with the babies and preschoolers at church on Sunday morning.

  1. I wanted to let your readers know that their military id is also good for discounts on summer camps. This year in particular we (PlanSummer.com) are seeing an increase in military discounts for summer camps. You can contact me at [email protected] if you would like to know more.
