AmazonY’all. Shopping for clothes on Amazon has rocked my world!

I started my relationship with Amazon clothing later than most savvy online shoppers, which is standard operating procedure for me. I’m typically late to the new tech/apps game. A prime example (pun intended) is when I finally started paying my bills online. I’m old school when it comes to certain things, and I felt I needed to physically write a check and record the new balance in my register when paying monthly bills, even though I was using my debit card for everything (49-cent gum, included). I’m sure it’s the former commercial banker in me, but when I started paying bills online, my world was never the same. An hours-long chore on the weekend turned into a 15-minute weekday task. Click, click, click, PAY! The same can be said about my relationship with Amazon once I started buying clothes from the online retailer. Mind blown. Add to cart. Next day free delivery? Free returns, too? Click, click, click, PAY! Thank you, Amazon Prime.

I have a deep love, long history, and high-level expertise in shopping.

Shopping is more than a favorite past-time, it is my favorite leisure sport. It doesn’t matter if I need to find a dynamite ensemble for an important event or a new light fixture for our foyer — the act of walking into a store and seeing, touching, smelling and trying products only to find the one that is perfectly suited, is more satisfying than I can explain. My first shopping love is for apparel, and my husband jokes that no one can walk into a clothing store and be in the dressing room with at least 10 items to try on faster than me, the Olympian Shopper. He’d walk in a few minutes behind me and know that when he didn’t see my blonde hair bouncing above the racks, I was already in the back trying on my selections. Not to boast, but I’m kinda the Michael Phelps of shopping.

When I stopped working and became a SAHM, I had to stop collecting DVF dresses and boutique blazers. We were now on a budget, and these luxuries could no longer be justified as essentials in my wardrobe. I owned minimal SAHM clothes, mostly just workout gear, and thankfully the athleisure wear trend kicked off at this time. Yet, I still needed some running errands clothes that were cute (of course!) and inexpensive (doubly of course!) on our single income that weren’t gym clothes. Target stores filled the need for adorable, affordable fashion for many years, and honestly, it still does! Par-tay at the Tar-zhay!

Don’t be tardy for the party.

Maintaining my slow track record with new online platforms, I didn’t join Instagram until 2017 and much later discovered the gift of Amazon fashion. Back up Tar-zhay. Move over. “To the left, to the left, everything you own in a box to the left…” I started seeing these adorable mom bloggers, even not-yet-a-mom uber fashionable bloggers, wearing chic outfits linked in their stories to Amazon. In true form, I resisted ordering clothing from Amazon. But eventually, I ordered a dupe of Lululemon high-waisted workout leggings for $24. And LOVED them! The quality and fit were spot on, so I ordered a couple of other inexpensive finds from Amazon that also impressed me. And then more. From jumpers to rompers to leggings to workout tops to denim shorts and dresses — Amazon was hitting the mark 99% of the time!

Supporting local business is important. So is shopping smart.

It should be noted that I prefer to patronize locally-owned shops in Jacksonville and surrounding areas. Our independent clothing boutiques are fantastic and between all of them, they satisfy any style or fashion of the moment. I definitely have my favorite local shops that suit my boring classic style. The apparel selection in these boutiques tends to have a special flair while also highlighting emerging designers and hot trends that you won’t find in a major department store. While supporting local business is essential and a priority for me, another important consideration is to be a smart consumer.  I love mixing my frugal fashion finds with high-end boutique buys. Interestingly, it seems that it’s always my budget bargains that garner the most compliments.

Lastly, most of you already shop Amazon, though maybe not for clothing (yet), but for other essentials and fun products. If you haven’t converted your regular Amazon account over to AmazonSmile, I urge you to do so. AmazonSmile offers all the same products, prices, and features (yes, even Prime!) as Amazon, but when you shop on AmazonSmile, the AmazonSmile Foundation donates 0.5% of your purchase price on eligible products to your chosen charitable organization! To update Amazon on your smartphone to AmazonSmile: Open the app, go to Settings in the main menu, and select AmazonSmile. Follow the on-screen instructions to set it up on your phone. There is not a separate AmazonSmile app to download — simply update your existing one!
