De-Stash Your Beauty Stash for Summer

summer beauty

We all have it. The beauty stash clutter. The trial sizes of products we’ve accumulated from all those great gift-with-purchases. That impulse buy you just never got around to really wearing — even though that YouTube person told you it was a MUST BUY! I’m here to tell you, I’m with you. But I’m also here to tell you it’s time to de-stash the stash and stick with a few summer beauty basics, because… summer is almost here!

Anyone else have the song “Take It Off” playing in their head right now?! But for real, in Florida, when the temps start to rise, our clothes inevitably get lighter, so it’s only natural that our makeup should, too. Paring down to the bare essentials is one of my favorite things about this time of the year. We’ve discussed the five-minute face, so now let’s work on revitalizing your summer beauty routine.

Sunscreen & Tinted Moisturizer

Living in Florida, we know and swear by sunscreen. If you don’t, I’m here to tell you that you need to.

Supergoop! Unseen Sunscreen SPF 40 is an amazing product. Use it under makeup or wear alone — it’s well worth the price.

Put it to the side. Summer is all about baring your beautiful, natural skin. Get a great tinted moisturizer or CC cream, and let your skin glow. My favorites are the Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer SPF 20 or the It Cosmetics CC+ Cream SPF 50, which provides great, long-wearing coverage. Both options have SPF — perfect for the Florida sun.

Blush

bareMinerals Gen Nude Powder Blush provides a soft, natural-looking flush to the cheeks. Apply directly over tinted moisturizer or over bare skin. Or apply under foundation for that glow-from-within look. NARS The Multiple is another good option, and bonus: You can use it on your lips, cheeks and eyes! Makeup multitasking at its finest.

Lip Treatment & Lipstick

It’s not just for wintertime; your lips need sunscreen and TLC during the summer months, too! Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment SPF 15 is a wonderful sheer formula that doesn’t leave your lips greasy.  One swipe, and you’re good to go!

As for lipstick, red lips will always be a go-to classic, but the bold shade is best reserved for formal events during the summer. Mauve is one of this season’s “it” colors. It’s actually a staple in my stash, and once you find the right shade for you, it’ll be a part of yours, too. Use a cream or satin finish for the perfecting summer pairing. Essence at Ulta is one of my favorite lipstick brands — the price point is great (and you can often find BOGO deals).

If you want a long-wearing lip, Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick is very wearable, not drying and lasts all day. The variety of colors makes this one of my staples for summer. In fact, Fiere is on rotation in my purse lately.

Eyeshadow & Mascara

Keep eyeshadow to a minimum in the warmer months. Think a nice sweep of sheer color on the eyelids, ideally in a bronze or rose gold wash. Then add a few coats of mascara, and you’re ready for the day!

Speaking of mascara, y’all know I LOVE mascara. If I had to take one thing with me on a trip, it’d always be mascara. Get yourself a waterproof formula for our hot summer months. My current waterproof favorite is L’Oreal Voluminous Million Lashes Mascara.

As for those beauty samples you never use? You can donate them to a local women’s shelter. They’re always in need of these items. I’ve donated to them many times!
