Your Prenatal Care Timeline, Explained: From First Visit to Baby Day

Thank you to Diana Health for sponsoring this post and providing women's health services and OB-GYN care.

Finding out you’re pregnant comes with a mix of emotions: excitement, questions, maybe even a little overwhelm. You’ve made the call to schedule your first appointment, now you’re wondering what comes next.

At Diana Health, we believe your care should be personal, thoughtful, and centered around you. We also believe it should make sense. If you’re planning to grow your family in Jacksonville, here’s what you can expect from your prenatal journey from your very first visit to delivery day.

First Appointment and First Trimester

Once you find out you’re expecting, patience can be hard to come by. That’s why Diana Health begins your prenatal care with a New Pregnancy Virtual Consult, so you can start care early, ask questions, and feel supported right away. This virtual appointment is designed to help confirm how far along you may be in your pregnancy, answer your questions (no matter how small), walk you through what to expect from your prenatal appointments, and learn more about you to help match you with the right provider(s) for your ongoing care.

During your first in-office appointment, you’ll have the opportunity to talk through your health history, typically have an ultrasound to see your baby, and begin building a care plan that reflects your needs and preferences. At Diana Health, you will also be assigned a Care Navigator, a team member dedicated to checking in with you and supporting you along your journey.
You’ll also leave with a clearer understanding of what’s ahead, including:

  • What appointments look like (and how many to expect)
  • What testing may be recommended (and how to prepare)
  • How to access support from us every step of the way

Prenatal Visits That Put You First

Prenatal care isn’t one-size-fits-all, and your visits shouldn’t feel rushed or transactional.
Throughout your pregnancy, you’ll have regular check-ins with your care team to monitor your health and your baby’s development. That includes:

  • Routine ultrasounds, like your anatomy scan
  • Screening tests, such as the glucose test
  • Ongoing conversations about how you’re feeling, both physically and emotionally

Your provider should take the time to explain what’s happening and why, so you feel informed and confident in your care. And if you want to go deeper on something, don’t be afraid to ask questions.

At Diana Health, we offer longer appointment times because exceptional care takes time. Also, most of your tests and scans are done in-house, so your care stays streamlined and all in one place.

Second and Third Trimester: Care That Supports Your Whole Experience

As you move into your second and third trimesters, your visits expand to focus on your full experience.
At Diana Health, we’ll also spend time discussing:

  • Wellness goals
  • Care preferences
  • Birth preferences

You can log these in your Diana Health Client app, and we’ll revisit them throughout your care.
Because prenatal care goes beyond medical checklists, we’re here to support your physical health, your mental well-being, and your experience as a growing family.

Together, we’ll cover:

  • Nutrition and movement guidance
  • Mental health support and check-ins
  • Education around labor, delivery, and postpartum recovery
  • Space to talk through preferences, concerns, or fears

You’ll have access to these resources anytime, through the app or during your visits with your provider.

Preparing for Delivery, Your Way

As you enter your third trimester, we’ll spend more time preparing for delivery.

Together, we’ll talk through what matters most to you, including:

  • Birth preferences
  • In-room support preferences
  • Your vision for your birth experience
  • Available classes for childbirth education

While birth can be unpredictable, having a plan helps you feel grounded and empowered. At Diana Health, we work alongside you to build thoughtful, flexible birth plans so you feel ready for whatever your delivery may bring.

Diana Health patients in Jacksonville deliver at HCA Florida Jacksonville, where our team works closely with hospital staff to support a safe, personalized birth experience. A personalized birth plan, paired with the safety and resources of a hospital setting, enables us to provide comfortable, comprehensive care throughout your delivery.

Postpartum Care: Support Beyond the Delivery

Your postpartum care begins soon after you head home. Around 48 hours after birth, your Care Navigator will reach out by call or text to check in.

This time is focused on you:

  • Processing your birth experience
  • Talking through any challenges, fears, or overwhelm
  • Making sure you feel supported

If you need additional support, our in-house, virtual mental health providers are available right away.

We also offer a 2-week virtual postpartum visit with your provider, giving you space to ask questions about your recovery, healing, feeding, or anything else on your mind. Whether this is your first delivery or your third, every postpartum experience is different, and we see this visit as a key part of supporting you through it. It is also standard to have a 6-week postpartum in-person to check in on your physical and emotional healing.
