dad gift guideAre you in possession of a dad? One perhaps, with limited-to-no hobbies? One who has already bought himself everything? One who, upon visiting their house, you found your gifts over the years still in the plastic wrap? (Dad, you would have LOVED the record player if you’d just opened it!) Then this is the gift guide for you — from one struggling daughter to another.

Will this list be a slam dunk of gifts? Absolutely not. But maybe your dad will take the plastic off of it this year.

Sports Team Stuff

Does your dad like sports? Does he like a team? Awesome, step one. If he doesn’t, do not buy him sports anything. But if your dad clears his schedule for a particular team, congratulations, this is your first step into gift success. The possibilities are endless, but may I suggest Googling:

  • Team name + hat
  • Team name + shirt
  • Team name + mug (See below.)
  • Team name + slippers (See below.)

Slippers

Our Jacksonville Mom writers were polled, and slippers were a hit amongst our dads. Slippers that are soft and can be worn outside. You could even get sports team slippers for bonus points. Also, if a few years go by, assume the slippers have worn out, and you can repurchase them. Do not make these slippers too fancy, or they will be rejected.

Streaming Service

Does your dad watch TV? Great. You know how we all complain about how many streaming services there are now? Finally a win here, you can pick one your dad doesn’t have and get him a subscription. Yay!

Restaurant Gift Cards

Does your dad eat out? Probably at a chain restaurant? Get him a gift card there. Gift cards are kind of lame, but that’s okay — so is giving you back the fancy grilling planks you got him last year.

Clockwise from left: Your dad might like a coffee tumbler, a crossword calendar, a phone charger, or a tablet pillow. Or he might not, but it’s worth a try.

Mugs and Glasses

I bet that your dad drinks liquid! I bet he needs something to drink from. Very cool, you can get him a mug or a glass. You could do a picture mug of his beloved grandchildren from a place like Shutterfly. Or a sports team mug, as discussed. They even make glasses with street maps on them if your dad is attached to a city. These are kind of expensive though, and he’d probably prefer a mug with a football team on it.

If your dad drinks coffee, maybe a Yeti or BrüMate cup would be cool. But he’ll probably still rotate it with the free one he got at church over a decade ago.

Crosswords

This is cool if your dad likes crosswords. Does your dad do crosswords? Mine doesn’t, he would hate this. But maybe yours would like a daily crossword calendar.

Tablet Pillow

If your dad likes his iPad, he’ll like this pillow. Mine actually doesn’t have a tablet and wouldn’t like this tablet pillow, but my mom does and she loved it.

Wireless Charger

I’m actually not sure if my dad liked this, but I didn’t get it back wrapped in the original plastic, so maybe your dad will like it. I bet he has a phone that needs charging! I got this one.

Fancy Food

I haven’t used Goldbelly, but it seems cool. It’s food packaged and shipped from restaurants around the U.S. If your dad relocated from New York and misses bagels or if they complain they’ve never been able to get good Chicago beef, it might be worth a look.

What do you usually get your dad for Christmas? Tell us, we need all the ideas!
