If you’ve ever stood along a race route clapping for strangers, pushed a stroller through a fun run, or tried to explain to your kids why “this one matters,” you already understand the heart of the Wolfson Children’s Challenge.
On Saturday, January 31, 2026, this beloved community event returns for its 17th year — and once again, families across the First Coast will come together to run, walk, cheer, and celebrate courageous children who remind us what strength really looks like.
Presented by Subaru of Jacksonville, the Wolfson Children’s Challenge includes a 5K and a 1-mile fun run, both starting at the Winston Family YMCA in Riverside. The course passes right by Wolfson Children’s Hospital, where patients, families, and hospital staff line the route, cheering on participants. Those who want to give back to Wolfson Children’s can be a part of the event by signing up as a sponsor, organizing a team, or registering individually.
A Race Built on Heart (and Community)
The Wolfson Children’s Challenge began in 2009 with a simple idea and a big heart. Co-founder Paul Wilson wanted to honor the year Wolfson Children’s Hospital opened (1955) by running 55 miles to raise $5,000, inspired by his newborn son Luke’s early surgery for spina bifida.
What started as a grassroots effort has grown into a signature community event, raising nearly $5 million to date for Wolfson Children’s Rehabilitation — a resource that supports children and families throughout Northeast Florida and South Georgia. Every registration, sponsorship, and team fundraiser helps provide life-changing therapy for kids right here in our area.
Meet the Wolfson 55
At the center of the Challenge are the Wolfson 55 — 55 current and former patients honored each year, whose stories represent the wide range of care provided at Wolfson Children’s Hospital. These children aren’t defined by diagnoses. They’re defined by joy, perseverance, and progress — and they’re the reason this event feels so personal to so many Jacksonville families.
Wolfson 55 Honoree Spotlight: Georgie
Born at 35 weeks via emergency C-section, Georgie was diagnosed with Lissencephaly, right-sided cerebral palsy, and hearing loss caused by congenital CMV. After spending a month in the NICU, he began occupational, physical, and speech therapies at Wolfson. In October 2024, Georgie reached a life-changing milestone: His cochlear implants were activated, allowing him to hear for the first time. Now almost 2 years old, Georgie continues therapy, uses a special walker, and loves bubbles, water play, stroller rides, and food. His family credits the compassionate, consistent care from the Wolfson Children’s team for helping him make steady progress.
Therapy That Grows With Your Child
All proceeds from the Wolfson Children’s Challenge benefit Wolfson Children’s Rehabilitation, which provides occupational, physical, and speech therapy for children with sensory, movement, feeding, and communication challenges. These services are offered both inside Wolfson Children’s Hospital and at outpatient clinics designed exclusively for kids — spaces built for little bodies, developing brains, and big milestones.
From premature babies learning to move and eat, to toddlers finding their voices and school-age kids building confidence, the impact of pediatric rehabilitation reaches far beyond the clinic walls.

Wolfson 55 Honoree Spotlight: Amelia
Amelia, now 5, began speech therapy at Wolfson Children’s Hospital at age 3 for a speech sound disorder. Over the last two years, she has gained confidence and improved articulation — blossoming into a thoughtful, bright, and compassionate child. Amelia loves puppies, dancing, helping her family with nonprofit work, and connecting with animals and nature. Her family is grateful for the dedication and encouragement from her therapists, who helped her find her voice and believe in herself.
