Love the Skin You’re In

I have a love affair with makeup, obviously, but what’s under the makeup is what’s important. There’s no substitute for clear, natural skin, so taking care of it is of utmost importance. There’s a skincare line for everyone out there, and lucky for you, I’m here to help.

In this months skin care topic, let’s talk about some essentials on how to achieve your perfect skin.

  1.  Have you heard of using (essence) oil on your face? No? Well, now you have. Use it, you’ll thank me later. It hydrates the face with a humectant and helps soften any dead skin cells. Anything you put on top of it will penetrate the skin and be more effective. Kiehl’s Daily Reviving Concentrate is wonderful and easy to use. Only takes two drops.image
  2.  In the Fall and Winter months, our skin tends to dry out. That, and around age 20ish, our skin cell turnover rate starts to slow down. So, using a serum/cream with Vitamin C or soy in it can help bring back the radiance in about a months time. Run and grab these quick! Aveeno Positively Radiance (soy) or Skinceuticals CE Ferulic Combination Antioxidant treatment (vitamin C).  Now, if your skin is sensitive, try a calming formula that calms redness while brightening like the Olay Regenerist Luminous Tone Perfecting Cream Moisturizer.
  3. Peptides. When looking over ingredients in your creams, look for these. Peptides are a dermatologist’s favorite anti-aging ingredient because they help cells produce more collagen (makes our skin more firm, smoother and glowy year round). A great over the counter one is the Olay Regenerist line. Some other beauty favorites are Sisley LA NUIT Le Grand Soin.image
  4. WEAR SUNSCREEN YEAR ROUND. Sorry, didn’t mean to scream that, okay, yes I did. I mean, we live in Florida. There’s sun here 90% of the year. Wear it, ladies, it’s important. Most of our fine lines and wrinkles come from sun exposure, not from laughing and smiling. Supergoop is wonderful and lightweight for your face.
  5. Have you heard of these SHEET MASKS? Before all the galas and awards, celebrities use these sheet masks to help their skin. You can DIY them or buy them at stores. They help create a barrier that seals more moisture into your skin than if you were to use a cream on its own. Celebrities rave over the Georgio Armani Luminescence Bright Infusion Bio-Cellulose Mask. BUT, you can also make a mask, soak some cotton cloth in a moisturizing serum or Essence (see above) and let it soak on your face.image
  6. Be a CLEAN FREAK. Please for the love of all things makeup–CLEAN YOUR FACE at night. The most important step to makeup is taking it off. At the very least, take a makeup wipe to it. I love the Neutrogena cleansing towelettes and use them in my kit all the time. But my favorite tool is the Clarisonic, which not only takes off makeup, it cleans deep into your pores as well.image
  7. PUMP up your routine at least once a week. I’m pretty sure I’ve mentioned these before in my beauty segments, but these are my absolute favorite peel pads ever–individually wrapped and wonderful for travel as well. They leave my skin feeling wonderful, and I wake up glowing the next day. The M-61 Glycolic peel pads are amazing. Use them at night after I’ve washed my face. Another favorite are the Dr. Dennis Gross Peel Pads. Both will leave your skin glowing!
