How to Host the Perfect Game Night

I literally spent years with hurt feelings because I was never invited over to anyone’s house, while I was hosting friends at my home on a regular basis. Cue: Insecurities.

What I discovered, though, is that many of us don’t know how or when to host something at our home. We’re busy raising kids, preparing meals, playing chauffeur to the family, being Wife of the Year, and working to be the best at our jobs. Exhausting. Who has time to host something when there are piles of laundry, dogs barking, and ferrel children running around the house? Gawd.

The Solution

Just do it. Send the text, make the call, invite your friends. Let’s bring back hosting friends in our homes. It doesn’t have to be perfect or fancy if you don’t want it to be — game nights are easy! Make it what you want and have fun with it. Enjoy spending time with the people you care about. We have this one life. Embrace it.

Tips for a Successful Game Night

1. Just do it. Enough said.

2. Settle on a simple meal. Street tacos are easy to throw together with minimal cooking. I used my super simple crock pot carnitas recipe available on penneyfarmsprincess.com.

3.  Use your games as decor. I went through all of our games and picked out ones with similar colors to use as decoration. Blue and white was our winning color combo.

4. Add visual interest. Use things from around the house to create height. I stacked white crates with the game boxes. Get creative and have fun with it!

5. Take a few shortcuts. Save time by getting a few pre-made items from the grocery store like pre-sliced veggies, prepared salsa, cheese dip, chips, etc.

6. Don’t forget the drinks! Create a do-it-yourself cocktail bar. Set out a few bottles of wine, liquor, mixers, and garnishes so your guests can create their drink of choice.

7. Add some sass. Sassy cocktail napkins are always a fun addition.
