If you’re a burger lover, consider this your official foodie checklist. Whether you’re craving a classic smash burger, a gourmet creation, or something stacked so high you need two hands, Jacksonville is full of incredible burger joints. I’ve been making my way through some of the best burger spots in town, and here’s my must-try list. Some of these I’ve already checked off (and highly recommend), while others are still on my radar. Who’s up for a burger crawl?

Hard Pressed Burgers (Jacksonville Beach)

If you love crispy-edged smash burgers, Hard Pressed Burgers needs to be at the top of your list. The perfectly seasoned patties, melty cheese, and buttery bun come together for an instant classic. Not to be biased, but these might be my favorite! Located in the food truck at Ink Factory Brewing. 602 Shetter Ave, Jacksonville Beach, FL 32250

Dick Mondell’s at the Beach keeps it simple and nostalgic with perfectly cooked patties, while Bite My Bun’s food truck offers a unique twist on the classic burger.

Dick Mondell’s Burgers & Fries (Jacksonville Beach)

Think old-school drive-thru vibes, but elevated and on the beachside. Dick Mondell’s keeps it simple and nostalgic with perfectly cooked patties, fresh toppings, and house-made sauces. Don’t skip the Original with double the patties! 1177 3rd St S, Jacksonville Beach, FL 32250

Bite My Bun (food truck)

If you’re looking for a unique twist on a burger, Bite My Bun is where it’s at. Their Wrangler Burger is a must-try with the duck fat fries but the real sleeper hit? The avocado fries. Instead of your usual side of fries, you get crispy, golden-fried avocado slices, adding a creamy crunch to your meal. It’s a game changer and pairs ridiculously well with their signature sauces. Check @bitemybunjax for updates, as they are moving from a food truck to a store location.

Carolina Jax is a tried-and-true local favorite. Photo courtesy of Carolina Jax.

Carolina Jax (Riverside)

Carolina Jax gets rave reviews for its creative burger combinations and juicy, flavor-packed patties. People swear by the Carolina Jax Classic and their hand-cut fries — even Jax Mom co-founder Megan Killis said it’s worth a stop. I’m ready to see what the hype is all about, as it is definitely the local favorite of the list. 2548 Oak St, Jacksonville, FL 32204

Epik Burger (Atlantic & Girvin)

The name says it all — Epik is known for EPIC burger creations. With a menu that includes everything from wagyu beef patties to unique toppings like peanut butter and bacon, it truly is one of the best of Jax. 12740 Atlantic Blvd #105, Jacksonville, FL 32225

Poe’s Tavern in Atlantic Beach offers a cool literary vibe. Photo courtesy of Poe’s Tavern.

Poe’s Tavern (Atlantic Beach)

A literary-themed burger joint? Sign me up. Poe’s Tavern is known for massive gourmet burgers named after Edgar Allan Poe’s works (like “The Tell-Tale Heart” burger). I love a creative theme, and it’s only fitting to have a burger in a tavern. 363 Atlantic Blvd, Atlantic Beach, FL 32233

Relish (Jacksonville Beach, Durbin Crossing)

Customization is key at Relish, and you can build your own burger from a long list of toppings, cheeses, and sauces. I love a good DIY experience, and Relish lets you take full control of your burger destiny. If you’re the type who can never decide between options, this spot is for you! 14866 Old St. Augustine Road, Jacksonville, FL 32258; 500 3rd Street N. Jacksonville Beach, FL 32250

If you’ve been to any of these, let me know your must-try order! And if I’ve missed a great burger joint, drop your recommendations in the comments. Because let’s be real, there’s no such thing as too many burgers.
