Trusting Your Instincts

Thank you to Slainte Chiropractic for sponsoring this post and providing health and wellness options to families.

slainte chiropracticMotherhood is ambiguous; a multi-faceted journey that is not a one-size-fits-all. It’s overwhelming and all-consuming in the best way possible. Whether motherhood is something you dreamed of your entire life, something you thought would come easily, or it was thrust upon you unexpectedly, it transforms you into a version of yourself that you never knew was possible.

Depending on the lens you look through, how you navigate being a mother is very different. Whether intentionally or unconsciously, you have chosen many guides to help you through the trials and successes of being a mom. For many, if not most, it’s an OBGYN. If you’re blessed enough, it can be your own mother or someone who was like a mother to you. We follow the social media accounts, buy the books and courses, gobble up podcasts, and sit with women who have walked this road before us. Leaving us overwhelmed: Who is right?

What are the best prenatal vitamins? Who has the best advice? Who can I trust with my fears about childbirth specifically? Am I breastfeeding or formula feeding, and what’s the difference anyway? Is it supposed to hurt like this? Who knows if my baby is developing properly? Who knows if my baby is hitting milestones right? What are the milestones? What will my relationship with my partner look like after this? What parenting techniques do I believe in? Do I have what it takes?

After spiraling into paralysis by analysis, we are left with the most eminent question: Who do we trust?

Leaving the most discounted person in the equation to be YOU, Mama. Why is it that we overlook the innate wisdom of a mother’s God-given intuition?

Mama, YOU know your baby and body better than any doctor or practitioner out there. You KNOW when something is off. You have this powerful intuition we call “gut instinct” that gets ignored and shoved under the rug way too often. Own it.

Don’t fall into the lies that society force-feeds mothers — YOU know best.

So here is your permission slip: DON’T SETTLE when the advice doesn’t sit right.

As a provider, hands down, the saddest sentence I hear far too often is, “I wish I would have known.”

Pick up that crying baby, delay the procedure, sleep next to them, wait on starting solids, find a new provider, argue with the teacher, find a new daycare. You are intelligent and capable of knowing what your child needs. Your research counts.

We see you.

We hear you.

We’ve been in your place. We have taken care of hundreds of families that didn’t know where else to turn or what else to do. These families found something different. Something they weren’t sure they could find: hope.

As experts in the field of preconception, prenatal and pediatric care, we at Sláinte Chiropractic are committed to sharing what we know with other parents and families.

Time and time again, in our office, we have women pouring their hearts out about not being heard. In some of the most vulnerable times of our lives, we are demanded to know what to do next at precisely that moment.

Our goal is to be a guide on your journey, not to tell you what that journey should be, but rather to support and empower you through an exploration to help make better health choices for your family.

We have a deep understanding of the body, the nervous system specifically, which is supported by objective tests to measure our results. Unlike other care providers that address symptoms and offer universal remedies, we recognize that every individual is unique. Upon building relationships, we work together with our families to uncover the root causes behind their symptoms and challenges. Our focus is always on helping our patients reach their highest potential by delivering the best possible care.

You never know what you’re going to get when you walk through the doors. Seasoned mothers sharing wisdom with a mom-to-be, the whole lobby cheering for a child with autism who was able to voice the words “I love you” to his mom after eight years, or insane giveaways for things that will further your health journey like the Air Doctor that two people won last month.

And that extends beyond the four walls of our office!

We all know the saying, “It takes a village to raise a child,” but where is this village that everyone speaks of?

slainte chiropracticHere at Sláinte Chiropractic, we have cultivated a tribe of families amongst the Northeast Florida community who are not satisfied with the status quo; a community of people who welcome you regardless of if you go against the grain or not.

We understand that the community we strive for isn’t possible just within appointment windows, which led us to create a community where families can come together to share questions, concerns, and wins on their health journey.

One thing that we love to do in our community is to shower our village with applicable knowledge and gifts, whether it is the quality of your air paired with an Air Doctor giveaway or the quality of your water (we see you Jacksonville water system) paired with an on-the-go water filter to match your lifestyle — we love our people hard.

It is never too late to get another opinion or to change the path your family is on. We as mothers need guidance from the women around us, and from the people who work in the world of childhood and motherhood.

Don’t settle, Mama. You have what it takes. You were hand-picked to be this child’s mama. There is no one else who will do it better than you.

Ready to turn off the noise and plug into your people? Join Sláinte Chiropractic on that journey and be part of our tribe — follow us on Instagram and join our Facebook group!

slainte chiropracticAbout the Author

Dr. Bridget Farrar is a third-generation chiropractor and the ninth in her family. She was born in Davenport, Iowa (the birthplace of chiropractic), grew up in various parts of New England, and eventually landed in Jacksonville Beach, Florida. Although she didn’t initially want to follow in her family’s footsteps, she followed the calling that God placed on her heart in her late 20s and graduated from Palmer College of Chiropractic in 2016. In March 2017, she opened Sláinte Chiropractic in Jacksonville Beach. Deeply proud of her Irish heritage, “Sláinte” means “a toast to your health” in Gaelic. That same year, she married her husband, Vincent Farrar — another doctor at Sláinte — in October and gave birth to their first son the following June of 2018.

Sláinte Chiropractic is a neurologically-based preconception, pregnancy, and pediatrics-focused office that utilizes the Gonstead technique, serving growing families in Northeast Florida and beyond. Dr. Bridget works with frustrated couples who are struggling to conceive to achieve the health they need to conceive a radiantly healthy baby.

In 2021, Dr. Bridget was honored with the JAX Chamber Small Business Leader of the Year Award. She and her husband have three beautiful children. When she’s not busy being a mom, running a successful business, and unleashing people’s innate ability to heal through chiropractic, you can also find her speaking at chiropractic conferences all over the country, inspiring people everywhere to honor the Innate Intelligence within them.
