Brunch Concerts Really Should Be a Thing!

I love music. All types of music. Even if it’s not my favorite, I still don’t mind it. In fact, I’d rather listen to music before watching TV.

Tell me there isn’t a lyric from a song that you can’t apply to any situation, providing levity, comfort or humor.

Music is an outlet for any type of mood we are in at the moment. Some of my favorite memories as a young adult were going to concerts to watch my favorite artists and discover new ones. The one thing I realized when I became a tired parent is the annoying fact that these concerts start in the evenings, many times on a work night, and then the headliners start late. Oh no, you cannot have me out here in these streets on a work night rushing to get to your concert and then you start late. That’s disrespectful to my time and the money I paid to be here. Don’t do me like that. I’ve been a loyal fan. Then I got to find a babysitter on a school/work night or go solo, make sure kids are fed along with other mom duties taken care of, and rush out in traffic to get to you.

Then, if I don’t take the next day off, I will regret all of my life choices because my normal bedtime is 9 p.m. I’m a tired, busy, working mom who happens to love music, so can I kindly request that these artists consider making brunch concerts a thing?

Can you imagine how many more moms would venture out to enjoy their favorite band or musician while drinking mimosas on a Saturday afternoon? That might actually be worth the prices they want to charge just to get nosebleed seats. Can you imagine the mom squad enjoying their favorite artists, sipping on their favorite adult beverage, and then getting home by 6 p.m.? How great would that be! Nothing beats live music, girl time with the mom squad all while knowing kids are home safe, no rush hour traffic to deal with, and no rush to get home because you don’t have to work the next day. It’s just you, your favorite artist, and your favorite people around you — and you can still get to bed at a reasonable hour.

And let’s not forget the fact that a lot of these musicians and bands I enjoy are also around my age or older, so I know they are tired, too. I’m talking to you, Eddie Vedder. Don’t be showing up in Jacksonville on a Wednesday night at 9 p.m. when you know you are tired like the rest of us. So bump that playtime down, please.

I’m not talking about a festival, because what they do is, they put the lesser-known folks up first and still have the headliners start in the evening.

I know this most likely will never happen, but then again, we learned through the COVID lockdown that many workplaces could still produce successful results while working remotely — something that was never considered before — so maybe one day my dream will come true.

Until then, I will just reminisce about the good old days like an old timer as I listen to my favorite artists at home — during the daytime, sipping on my mimosa in my backyard when the sun is shining. At least there’s no line to the bathroom, and I can rock out in my sweatpants or pajamas if I want. A girl can dream, right?

Sincerely,
A Tired, Music-loving Parent Who Would Really Love Brunch Concerts to Be a Thing

PS My other bone to pick that I’ll save for a rainy day: Why is the Super Bowl not held on Saturday? Imagine how much more enjoyable that would be, too. Imagine how many more Taylor Swift fans would tune in. Ha! Things that make you go “hmmmm.”

Are you for the idea of brunch concerts, or are you a night owl?
