The Ortega Hills Playground is located in the Ortega Hills area across from the Jacksonville Naval Air Station. The name Ortega derives from Joseph de Ortega, a judge during the second Spanish occupation of Florida from 1783-1821. “WHAT WE DO” St Johns Taekwondo is passionate about seeing students grow through martial arts training. Our program is a South Korean based Taekwondo system used by the South Korean Military and the South Korean Presidential Body Guards. Taekwondo is known for devastating kicks but make no mistake it has many weapons in its arsenal. The hand techniques are practiced and conditioned by breaking objects such as boards, roof tiles and cement blocks. All the techniques from kicks, strikes, down to blocks were developed to maximize damage with every blow. We also practice Taegeuk “Poomse” meaning forms or patterns. These are pre-arranged fight sequences that are practiced to develop hand-eye coordination, timing, balance, power, speed, discipline and overall body structure.

“WHY WE DO IT” St Johns Taekwondo is headed up by Master Joe Gaines a 20 year veteran of the martial arts community. Master Gaines is currently a 4th Dan Kukkiwon Black Belt and has an Associate Level Coaches certification through USA Taekwondo. Master Gaines has taught thousands of people throughout his career and has certified over 70 Black Belts. Some of Master Gaines’ past success stories have been professionals such as Doctors, Lawyers, Judges, Police, Swat, Fire, EMT, Nurses, Army Rangers, Teachers, Moms, Dads, and Kids! Master Gaines’ life long dream is to make the world a better place one Black Belt at a time.

Crabtree Park is located in the Lakewood area, three blocks east of the intersection of San Jose Blvd. and University Blvd. West. Walter Crabtree developed the entire Lakewood area between 1946 and 1961, some of it around picturesque New Ross Creek that meanders through the northwest section. He conveyed the land for the park to Duval County in several deeds between 1957 and 1963. For over fifty years, Walter R. Crabtree (1899-1993) was a real estate developer and builder in Duval County. He operated his own lumber company, and built the Lakewood Apartments across from the park. Through the years, sports have been the main activity at Crabtree Park: organized youth baseball/softball games and pickup basketball games.

We have classes for two, three and four year olds. Children must be two, three, or four by September 1 to be enrolled in these classes. We also have a Mothers Morning Out class for toddler’s age one year old and walking. Ringhaver Park is located in southwest Jacksonville, extending south from 118th Street, along the western border of the Ortega River. The City acquired the land comprising the park in 1971, 1972, 1996, and 2000. The park is named for Lambert C. Ringhaver (1910-1976), whose family made a memorial donation for the initial park development, which has grown from 36 acres in 1977 to 576 acres in 2003. Mr. Ringhaver was the founder of Ring Power Corp., and served as president of the Florida Forestry Association, as a trustee of Jacksonville University, and as president of the Greater Jacksonville Open for two terms. Founder, Martin Freeman, is a former law enforcement officer and is a father of 5. What is a pop-up sewing lounge? We are an event based sewing centric team conducting our classes, workshops, and special events in Fleming Island, Florida.
Our sewing lounge activities are led by local and nationally recognized artisans, and held most often at 1809 East-West Parkway, Fleming Island, FL 32003. We are adding additional venues in 2018. Fleming Island Splash Park and Amenity Center. Please note which location we will use when registering.

At Cool Stitches we want to take you on a sewing adventure where you explore new ideas, complete projects using new techniques, and develop a love of sewing.
