E.S. Murdock started “The Pig” in 1955 on Kings Rd. Jacksonville, Florida. The original stores focused on the preparation of award winning barbecue. In the early 1960’s E.S. In this comprehensive series, you and your partner/coach will increase your confidence in the birthing process as you gain a better understanding of what to expect. The series includes information on stages and phases of labor, pain management, cesarean birth, postpartum care and normal newborn characteristics.

Expectant parents are encouraged to complete classes between the 32nd-37th weeks so register early, as space is limited.

Please note: Some breathing and relaxation is included in this class but you will not practice on the floor. For couples desiring more practice on breathing and relaxation techniques, we offer a supplemental one night class called Comfort Measures.

Safe Sitter® Class Description

Safe Sitter® prepares students in grades 6-8 to be safe when they’re home alone, watching younger siblings, or babysitting.

Students learn life-saving skills such as how to rescue someone who’s choking, and helpful information like what to do if there’s severe weather. The lessons are filled with fun activities and role-playing exercises. Students even get to use CPR manikins to practice CPR and choking rescue!

The Swim Lesson Club indoor heated pool is located in the Mandarin area of Jacksonville. Our pool is heated 92 degrees and perfectly designed for teaching all ages of swimming instruction.

We utilize endless swimming technology allowing us to easily correct technique and achieve excellent swimming conditioning for our developing swimmers. We offer videographer and stroke analysis that is very difficult to accomplish in a normal lap swimming pool. We partner with Swim Angelfish and utilize a special methodology ideal for children with water anxiety, sensory sensitivity, autism, or in need of adapted swimming instruction.

The Green Team Project (GTP) is a grassroots environmental non-profit project of the Tides Center whose focus is to empower and motivate people to make a difference environmentally through their own practices.

We are dedicated to changing long-term consumption behavior, increasing environmental awareness and stewardship, creating a greater sense of community, improving the quality of life, and having fun.

Green Team Project has educational programs for every member of the community. Through Green Teams, individuals, businesses, schools, and other organizations turn good intentions into concrete positive environmental action. The average graduate of a Green Team saves between 10-30% in each of the five resource areas: water, energy, solid waste, chemicals, and transportation, as well as a fair amount of money.

By using the team process our participants have the support and motivation they need to follow through on conservation actions, learn new things, and adopt long-lasting environmental habits.

The STEAM Cultural Passport is a Duval County program that provides students in Title I elementary schools with three to four educational field trips per year. These field trip experiences are connected to programs and offerings in Science, Technology, Engineering, The Arts, and Mathematics. Organizations are selected through an application process, and events are scheduled according to available services to schools. The program is currently funded through federal dollars and provides cultural experiences to students, most of whom would not otherwise receive these kinds of opportunities.

During each trip, the students will board a St. Johns River Taxi boat from Friendship Fountain Park for a 2-hour tour of the river. While on board, they will rotate through a series of educational activities that correlate to state standards and focus on river science.

Students will learn to use water quality monitoring equipment, gather and interpret water quality data, record observational data on manatees and dolphins in the St. Johns River, examine river plants and animals for adaptations that enable them to thrive in the river ecosystem, and use their water quality data and what they learn on the trips to make predictions about the future of the St. Johns River.

The class will teach you the proper way to install your car seat in your car. Upon completion of the class, certified technicians from Safe Kids will be on hand to help you install your seat correctly in your vehicle.

This one-night virtual class will enhance what you have already learned in your childbirth preparation class. In this condensed virtual class an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant or Certified Lactation Counselor will teach you the most important evidence based concepts needed to get breastfeeding off to the best start. There will be plenty of time at the end of class to ask questions.

Concord Park is located in the in the Lake Forest section of northwest Jacksonville, near the intersection of Edgewood Avenue and U.S. Interstate 95. After filing of the first plat in 1926, it was not until around 1944 that development began again in Lake Forest, whose streets and parks exhibit an American Revolutionary War theme. Concord Park is one of two half-oval parks that were named and platted by the developers in 1944. Battles at Lexington and Concord, Massachusetts on April 19, 1775 between the colonial Minutemen and the British redcoats marked the beginning of the War. Through the years, the park has remained a small, neighborhood facility with play equipment for the children, and a major improvement project in 1999 added picnic facilities, new benches, and a water fountain. Confederate Playground is located near downtown, in the Springfield section of north Jacksonville. First named Dignan Park, for a chairman of the Board of Public Works, it opened in 1907 and contained the City’s first supervised playground. The United Confederate Veterans chose Jacksonville as the site for their twenty-fourth annual reunion in 1914, which was attended by an estimated 48,000 former Confederate soldiers. Many of the activities took place in the park, and five months later it was renamed, Confederate Park. Troops, many from the nearby Armory, used the playground portion of the park for drill grounds and tent/hut encampments during both World Wars. The playground was permanently established as a separate facility from Confederate Park in the 1950’s, and today provides open space and recreational facilities for residents of the Springfield and downtown communities.

Located in historic Springfield, and depending on your location it’s worth the drive on the weekends because it is that good. Their breakfast menu is full of fresh ingredients. They also have an amazing biscuit selection (hello, Surf & Turf Biscuit with Cajun shrimp, sausage gravy, fried egg) and their amazing Ciabatta Pimento Cheese Egg Sandwich. You cannot go wrong at this establishment. Breakfast starts at 7:00 am Monday through Friday and at 8:00 am on the weekend days.

AIR FORCE JROTC MAGNET The Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps is a magnet program that focuses on leadership education to instill values of citizenship, character, and integrity. Upon completing three years of the Air Force JROTC program, students receive a Certificate of Completion. If cadets elect to enlist in the Armed Forces, the Certificate of Completion from the JROTC program will allow them to enlist as a pay grade E-3 in the Army, Navy, or Air Force, or an E2 pay grade in the Marine Corp.

HEALTH SCIENCES ACADEMY The Health Sciences Academy offers a unique educational experience to students who wish to pursue a career in the health care industry. Upon graduating from Andrew Jackson, students have the entry-level job skills needed to successfully pursue careers in many of the various health-related occupations. The curriculum emphasizes hands-on experience and rigorous critical thinking skills. This program also enables students to meet high school graduation requirements while earning college credits.

Oakland Park is located in the Oakland section of downtown Jacksonville, and has been City property since the 1880’s. The residential community of Oakland emerged during the 1870’s and was oriented toward working-class families. West of the park lies the Old City Cemetery established in 1852, and along the park’s northern boundary, St. Joseph’s Cemetery, which is a part of the Old City Cemetery. The park has historical significance as the first playground established by the City of Jacksonville for African-American children. The park opened on July 4, 1918, through the efforts of noted Jacksonville humanitarian, Eartha M.M. White (1876-1974), and for ten years was under the direction of pioneer recreational leader Florida C. Dwight (1886-1977).

Angelina Danese Park is located in south Jacksonville, at the intersection of Danese Court and St. Augustine Road. The site comprised part of the Philips community that was established in the last half of the 1800’s. Alexander and Angelina Danese, who arrived in America as immigrants from Italy in 1885, had twelve children following their marriage in 1898. The couple established their home on the park property in 1929, and after their deaths the children wanted to honor their parents’ memory. Their son Emanuel Danese, and his wife Mary Margaret, later donated the property to the city in 1973 for use as a passive public park – in honor of his parents and with the stipulation that it be named for his mother. But the site remained a vacant tract until the city, with the aid of City Councilmen Matt Carlucci and Reggie Fullwood, developed the property as a neighborhood park, which opened in March 2003.

Crabtree Park is located in the Lakewood area, three blocks east of the intersection of San Jose Blvd. and University Blvd. West. Walter Crabtree developed the entire Lakewood area between 1946 and 1961, some of it around picturesque New Ross Creek that meanders through the northwest section. He conveyed the land for the park to Duval County in several deeds between 1957 and 1963. For over fifty years, Walter R. Crabtree (1899-1993) was a real estate developer and builder in Duval County. He operated his own lumber company, and built the Lakewood Apartments across from the park. Through the years, sports have been the main activity at Crabtree Park: organized youth baseball/softball games and pickup basketball games.
