Chuck Rogers Park is located in Mandarin, north of the intersection of San Jose Blvd. and Orange Picker Rd. The efforts of the City, Councilman Dick Kravitz, and the Jacksonville Youth Soccer Club led to the purchase of the site in 1995 and its development as Mandarin’s first soccer park, which opened for the inaugural game March 7, 1997. An additional 1.1-acre parcel for the park was donated to the City in 1998. The park is named for Chuck Rogers (1909-1980), who worked for the Parks and Recreation Dept. for 41 years. He started and ran the City’s youth leagues in all sports, was the guiding light in the tremendous rise of slow-pitch softball in the City, served for many years as the grand marshal for the City’s parades, and much more. This is Surf into Summer’s 19th year teaching campers to master the waves, making it the longest running surf camp on the First Coast. We offer surf camps in both Jacksonville Beach and Ponte Vedra Beach.

At Surf into Summer, campers will learn from the top surfers in North Florida. Campers will not only learn the basics of paddling and how to stand up on a board, but also important knowledge on beach and water safety from the CPR certified instructors.

Children are not born with clear vision, but with visual potential. Visual development takes place during the first several years of life. Just like learning a language, children are also learning to see the world around them. Ophthalmic problems or even routine refractive errors (the need for glasses) can interfere with a child’s visual development.

It is estimated that about 80% of a child’s learning is visually based. Good vision is not only necessary for a child to learn to read and advance academically, but also for appropriate social development, behavior, self-esteem, and coordination.

Since younger children cannot express or verbalize their vision, and older children may not be aware enough to understand they have a visual problem; it is important to have any concerns evaluated. Pediatric eye evaluations and treatment differ greatly from the typical eye problems of adults. Children should be seen by someone with special skills and knowledge in pediatric eye care.

I launched Attia Designs on June 6, 2020. So, why earrings? I am completely obsessed with earrings and came across polymer clay earrings while browsing the internet one day. Quarantine from the pandemic gave me a lot of much needed time to explore my passions. I didn’t put much thought into planning, I dove straight into it and a month later here we are. The Mandarin Museum and the 1898 St. Joseph’s Mission Schoolhouse for African-American Children are open every Saturday from 9-4 at Walter Jones Historical Park, 11964 Mandarin Rd. The museum features the Civil War steamship Maple Leaf which was sunk in the St. Johns River at Mandarin Point in 1864. On display are many artifacts recovered from the shipwreck, Civil War soldiers’ uniforms and an interactive exhibit about the diving operation that recovered the objects belonging to the soldiers. The historic schoolhouse is the last remaining one-room schoolhouse left in Duval County. While visiting, children can pick-up a park and museum scavenger hunt that helps them learn about important objects or sit in an old school desk and color or read a book, and learn about how different school was over 100 years ago. Following the visit to the museums, you will want to stroll the beautiful 10-acre Walter Jones Historical Park, walk along the St. Johns River on the boardwalk and imagine being dropped back in time to a quiet life of the early 1900s. Picnic tables and restrooms are available.

Ultimate Beaches Guide: It just doesn’t feel quite like summer until we have made our first trip to Mickler’s Beach. Located on the south end of Ponte Vedra Beach, it is a beautiful, easy-to-navigate beach. The beach access point provides ample parking, restrooms, showers and a handicapped accessible dune walk-over. We always find amazing seashells and shark teeth walking along this beautiful stretch beach. It is not atypical to see fisherman pulling in some fairly impressive catch off the shoreline or find yourself strolling alongside a horseback rider. Some of our most idyllic days happened at Mickler’s. This beach is a bit out of the way, so we tend to pack a picnic lunch although you are just a short drive away from dining options off of A1A.

Scenic A1A: The four-lane roads of Ponte Vedra Beach narrow to two as nature takes over the ride. The first public beach in Ponte Vedra, a favorite of locals, lies two blocks east of A1A at the last traffic light you’ll see for 20 miles. On the right the turn street is called Mickler Road; on the left Ponta Vedra Boulevard. Even though there is no sign designating this hidden gem, take the left. Mickler’s Landing, pronounced “Myklers” by locals, a local favorite famous for its pink, coquina-sand stretches of beach, has no sign at all. So finding it is a special delight. The wooden walkway through the twenty-foot high sand dunes gives you the first inkling that a special place is about to be revealed.

I am a Registered Mental Health Counseling Intern with the state of Florida under supervision in the Jacksonville area. I cover a broad spectrum, from individuals to families, and children to adults. I believe in a compassionate approach, with the hope that you would “come as you are”. It is my belief that personal attachments and connections are the roots of much of our behaviors. Engineering For Kids brings science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM), to kids ages 4 to 14 in a fun and challenging way through classes, camps, clubs, and parties.

Soccer Shots is a program offered to children ages 2-8 that meets once a week at daycare centers, preschools, elementary schools, parks, communities and churches throughout the city to introduce your child to soccer. Providing a high-energy, fun, age-appropriate introduction to soccer for kids, Soccer Shots is not your typical league, but rather a fun introduction to the basics of soccer with a focus on character development and confidence-building, that your children will use as they transition to league play. The Jacksonville Junior Volleyball Association is a North Florida youth sport association founded by three area coaches in 1989 for the purpose of promoting the sport of volleyball for school age students in the city and surrounding areas. These coaches were Mary Andrew (Former Head Coach, FSCJ), Elise Bush (Head Coach, The Bolles School), and Brandy King (Former Head Coach, Mayport Middle School).

In the past 26 years this association has grown from 3 teams, 30 players, and 3 coaches, to 74 teams, over 500 players, and 70+ coaches.

Our mission is to promote the sport of volleyball, as well as health and fitness throughout Northeast Florida by providing educational training and competitive playing opportunities to players of all ages, backgrounds and skill levels.

Our music school offers 15 min first initial lessons to see if you like them. Students can take their lessons in person or online.
