E.S. Murdock started “The Pig” in 1955 on Kings Rd. Jacksonville, Florida. The original stores focused on the preparation of award winning barbecue. In the early 1960’s E.S. In this comprehensive series, you and your partner/coach will increase your confidence in the birthing process as you gain a better understanding of what to expect. The series includes information on stages and phases of labor, pain management, cesarean birth, postpartum care and normal newborn characteristics.

Expectant parents are encouraged to complete classes between the 32nd-37th weeks so register early, as space is limited.

Safe Sitter® Class Description

Safe Sitter® prepares students in grades 6-8 to be safe when they’re home alone, watching younger siblings, or babysitting.

Students learn life-saving skills such as how to rescue someone who’s choking, and helpful information like what to do if there’s severe weather. The lessons are filled with fun activities and role-playing exercises. Students even get to use CPR manikins to practice CPR and choking rescue!

The Green Team Project (GTP) is a grassroots environmental non-profit project of the Tides Center whose focus is to empower and motivate people to make a difference environmentally through their own practices.

We are dedicated to changing long-term consumption behavior, increasing environmental awareness and stewardship, creating a greater sense of community, improving the quality of life, and having fun.

Green Team Project has educational programs for every member of the community. Through Green Teams, individuals, businesses, schools, and other organizations turn good intentions into concrete positive environmental action. The average graduate of a Green Team saves between 10-30% in each of the five resource areas: water, energy, solid waste, chemicals, and transportation, as well as a fair amount of money.

By using the team process our participants have the support and motivation they need to follow through on conservation actions, learn new things, and adopt long-lasting environmental habits.

The STEAM Cultural Passport is a Duval County program that provides students in Title I elementary schools with three to four educational field trips per year. These field trip experiences are connected to programs and offerings in Science, Technology, Engineering, The Arts, and Mathematics. Organizations are selected through an application process, and events are scheduled according to available services to schools. The program is currently funded through federal dollars and provides cultural experiences to students, most of whom would not otherwise receive these kinds of opportunities.

During each trip, the students will board a St. Johns River Taxi boat from Friendship Fountain Park for a 2-hour tour of the river. While on board, they will rotate through a series of educational activities that correlate to state standards and focus on river science.

Students will learn to use water quality monitoring equipment, gather and interpret water quality data, record observational data on manatees and dolphins in the St. Johns River, examine river plants and animals for adaptations that enable them to thrive in the river ecosystem, and use their water quality data and what they learn on the trips to make predictions about the future of the St. Johns River.

Jax Stroller Strength lets moms workout with their kids and gives them a chance to connect with other mothers. Bootcamp style classes are offered every day of the week at the Beaches, Mandarin, Riverside and Nocatee locations. Your little bundle of joy is coming and there is never enough time! So, we combined three of our parenting classes, Breastfeeding 101, Baby Care Basics and Happiest Baby on the Block into one. By the end of the day you will have the basic foundation needed to take care of your newborn.

The class will teach you the proper way to install your car seat in your car. Upon completion of the class, certified technicians from Safe Kids will be on hand to help you install your seat correctly in your vehicle.

This one-night virtual class will enhance what you have already learned in your childbirth preparation class. In this condensed virtual class an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant or Certified Lactation Counselor will teach you the most important evidence based concepts needed to get breastfeeding off to the best start. There will be plenty of time at the end of class to ask questions.

• baby’s feeding cues

The Christoffersens created Camden’s Corner (a nonprofit organization) to raise awareness for cystic fibrosis and build a community for caregivers, as we know first-hand how hard it can be to be a caregiver and a parent to a medically complex child. The MaliVai Washington Youth Foundation was founded by former tennis professional and ’96 Wimbledon finalist MaliVai Washington.

TnT is a daily after-school program. TnT (Tennis-n-Tutoring) operates from 3pm-6pm, Monday-Friday in the MaliVai Washington Youth Center. TnT contains 3 sessions daily which provide academic assistance, tennis/fitness activities and life skills classes. Each child also receives a nutritious snack daily. Private Full Time Islamic School. Al-Furqan Academy was established in August of 1997 by some of the same founding members of ICNEF (Islamic Center of Northeast Florida). They saw the immense need for an Islamic Elementary School in the city of Jacksonville, and they acted upon it. You will be fishing on a 2016 Pathfinder 24-foot center console, powered by a Yamaha 300 horsepower outboard. We fish exclusively with Penn reels, most of which are paired on Ugly Stik rods. Spider Wire Ultra Cast braided line makes long-casting easier, and pulling those tough redfish out of the rocks. Most of the fishing is live bait, although Sebile Plugs and Berkley Gulp are always on the boat for that early morning trout bite or jigging the St. Johns River for flounder.

The playground at J.P. Small Park was renamed in June 2007 to honor Eugene M. GLover. Mr. Glover, who passed away in 2006, was affectionately known by friends, colleagues and the young people he worked with as the “Gentle Giant.” He spent 42 years working in a variety of capacities for the PREC Department; most notably at J.P. Small Park, which was named for his high school coach and mentor. A sign has been erected in the park officially naming the playground for the former Stanton High School and Florida A&M University athlete and brother of the former sheriff, Nat Glover.

The Duval County Library offers Traveling Tales Kits available for check out from the Main Library in downtown Jacksonville for free. Called different names over the years including Duval County Legal Aid Association, it was officially named Jacksonville Area Legal Aid in 1973. The organization achieved 501(c)3 status in 1976. JALA now serves 17 counties of North Florida including Alachua, Baker, Bradford, Clay, Columbia, Dixie, Duval, Gilchrist, Hamilton, Lafayette, Levy, Madison, Nassau, St. Johns, Suwannee, Taylor and Union.
