Stop thinking you could never be a runner and start believing that you can achieve your fitness goals! Moms on the Run can help. We’re not a run club. We’re an instructor-led fitness program with coaching to motivate, educate and encourage you on your journey. You’ll make new friends, find accountability and have fun while working toward a healthier lifestyle. You don’t have to be a mom to join Moms on the Run.

We welcome ALL women, ALL ages, and ALL fitness levels. We offer programming for walkers to beginning runners to experienced runners. Walkers will be encouraged to follow an interval training schedule designed to maximize their fitness levels. Our “learn to run” program begins with mostly walking and gradually transitions to more jogging. Experienced runners will be challenged to improve their times and endurance. Each class includes strength, stretching, and cardio training.

Little Dancing Stars, your mobile dance company started in 2001. We offer children 3 to 6 years of age basic beginning Ballet and Tap instruction. Your child can participate in a dance recital at the end of the dance season. Classes start the first week of September and run through end of May, with the dance recital being held usually the first Saturday of June.

The property at 10244 103rd Street was originally purchased by Duval County on August 19, 1960 from Hercules, Inc. When consolidation occurred in 1968, the 14-acre park became part of the City of Jacksonville’s facilities in the Department of Recreation and Public Affairs. The park consists of a 0.5-mile lighted asphalt Go-Kart track, bleachers, grills, restrooms and parking. The North Florida Kart Club has been active at the site since its early days and has helped in its maintenance and park improvements by its fund-raising efforts. James Weldon Johnson is a dedicated magnet school offering two tracks:
Academically Talented
Gifted
When filling out a magnet application, you must select only one of these tracks. If you apply for both your application may be rejected by the magnet office. You can only apply for the gifted track if your student has been certified as gifted by DCPS, otherwise you must apply for the academically talented track. Both tracks have similar curricula and course progressions, because JWJ only offers advanced courses. Students at JWJ must maintain a 2.0 GPA in either program to keep their magnet seat, and must pass all classes, including electives, to be promoted.

In order to join the Pawsitive Reading program, children AND at least one parent/guardian must first attend a one-time Pawsitive Reading orientation. We offer several orientations each month. Upcoming orientation dates and sign-up links are below. Advance registration is required.

Please note: We are unable to offer Pawsitive Reading orientations in June and July due to JHS Summer Camp.

Orientations will take place in either the JHS Education Center or Conference Room (both are located upstairs, above the Adoption Center). Our address is 8464 Beach Blvd. Please arrive on time. The orientation will be around 40 minutes in length.

After attending an orientation, children and an adult chaperone may come to JHS to read to the animals anytime our Adoption Center is open (12pm-7pm on weekdays, 10am-5pm on weekends). Participants must sign in and out at the front desk when visiting JHS to read.

To ensure that our animals benefit from the program, we ask that readers spend at least 30 minutes reading – there is no maximum time limit.

Children may read to either dogs or cats and may bring their reading materials or borrow books from our Pawsitive Reading library.

Participants will receive a free book courtesy of The Jim Moran Foundation while supplies are available.

The playground at J.P. Small Park was renamed in June 2007 to honor Eugene M. GLover. Small Park, which was named for his high school coach and mentor. A sign has been erected in the park officially naming the playground for the former Stanton High School and Florida A&M University athlete and brother of the former sheriff, Nat Glover.

Children are not born with clear vision, but with visual potential. Visual development takes place during the first several years of life. Just like learning a language, children are also learning to see the world around them. Ophthalmic problems or even routine refractive errors (the need for glasses) can interfere with a child’s visual development.

It is estimated that about 80% of a child’s learning is visually based. Good vision is not only necessary for a child to learn to read and advance academically, but also for appropriate social development, behavior, self-esteem, and coordination.

Since younger children cannot express or verbalize their vision, and older children may not be aware enough to understand they have a visual problem; it is important to have any concerns evaluated. Pediatric eye evaluations and treatment differ greatly from the typical eye problems of adults. Children should be seen by someone with special skills and knowledge in pediatric eye care.

In just 55 minutes you will achieve a full-body workout concentrating on the areas women struggle with the most**: hips, thighs, seat, abdominals, and arms. The Pure Barre technique is low-impact, protecting your joints by avoiding any bouncing or jumping. Each strength section of the workout is followed by a stretching section in order to create long, lean muscles without bulk. The technique works to defy gravity by tapering everything in and lifting it up!

Hammond Park is located in west Jacksonville at the intersection of 12th Street and Melson Avenue. In 1923, the property comprised part of a site used for airplane takeoffs and landings, and was named Paxon Field for the tract’s owner, E. H. Paxon. After opening in 1955 as Paxon Park, the name was changed to honor Duval County Commissioner Joseph F. Hammond (1885-1967), who, except for two years, served continuously from 1921-1961. POSH Braid Bar is a NEW braid service being offered. Additionally, POSH Braid Bar now also offers tweens/tweens themed braid parties. Events include GLAM braids with glitter, tinsel and/or pops of color. Braid themed party can be an easy added addition to any event!

Crowning Midwifery is operated by Midwife Kimberley, a Florida Licensed Midwife who provides holistic midwifery services in Jacksonville, and it’s surrounding areas. Midwife Kimberley is also a black midwife that provides placenta encapsulation and yoni steaming options alongside your care. We provide traditional, culturally competent, and comprehensive midwifery care throughout the childbearing year (from the start of pregnancy through the 6th postpartum week) which includes prenatal care, home birth, and postpartum care. We also offer Monitrice care for the hospital birthing family! In addition, we service VBAC attempting families!

The Donut Shoppe has been open since 1962 and is currently owned by David Unkelbach. We have 21 varieties of donuts.

Gone are the days of going to a donut shop and agonizing over which flavor to pick.
You’ll no longer have to convince your friends, family, or significant other to get a certain flavor just so you can try it.

At The Mini Bar, our donuts are about a third of the size of a regular donut. This means you get to try more flavors each visit!  Our donuts are made to order, so you’ll always receive a hot donut in the store. Unlike other donut shops, our hot sign is always on. We will have a set menu of  16 flavors. Some examples include fruity pebbles, samoa, pop tart, maple bacon, and coffee cake

One of our goals with The Mini Bar is to partner with as many local businesses as possible. What’s a donut without really good coffee? We are very excited about partnering with Bold Bean Coffee Roasters for our coffee program. We will be serving a variety of coffee and espresso drinks, and will be making all of the syrups in house.  We have also partnered with local candy shop, Sweet Pete’s, and will have a donut on our menu featuring their famous sea salt caramel popcorn and caramel sauce.
