This is often the first beach we visit, primarily because of proximity to the Beaches Town Center. I told you I loved this place. The local, coastal vibe just makes me happy. Inspired by our travels to Asia and memories of growing up, we all craved the unapologetic flavors of true Asian food—dumplings with bounce, spicy curries, crisp pork belly, and the list goes on. When in Asia, we knew the best dishes were on the streets from hawker stalls. At home, we turned to parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles to get a fix from generations-old comfort food recipes. We sought out restaurants in hopes of finding a gem, only to be disappointed 9 times out of 10.

Finally, it hit us—we had to redefine “eating Asian” in the states. From day one, the food was at the core of Hawkers Asian Street Fare—generations of Asian street food recipes have been passed down, some of which are still served on the streets of Asia. But there had to be more. We wanted to build a restaurant that would tell the story of the hawker experience in a subtle and design-conscious way. We wanted great drinks to pair with great food. Most importantly, we wanted to create a place that was high-energy, but approachable in a t-shirt or a sports coat.

Jack Russell Park has two large play areas and is covered with trees and a large picnic pavilion. Other amenties include basketball court, 6 tennis courts, 2 racquetball courts, skateboard ramps, baseball fields and soccer fields. A concession stand is open on weekends.

Atlantic Beach is a terrific beach to explore with families. Bull Park is located just a few blocks from the ocean and offers a picnic zone or alternate play area (shaded playground!) if you or your little one needs a break from the sand and surf. There is not a lot of parking located near the beach, so your best bet is to find parking at either Jack Russell Park, Bull Park, or the Beaches Town Center area and walk to the ocean. From most of the Atlantic Beach public access points, you are a short to medium size walk to the Beaches Town Center, where you can find lovely local dining options and shopping alike!

Bull Memorial Park is home to a tennis court, an amphitheater area, a picnic area, a tetherball court, a small basketball court, a large sand playground, public restroom, and an open space for field play.

Bull Park is also adjacent to the Adele Grage Cultural Center.  This center provides space for the Atlantic Beach Recreation and Special Events offices, a community room (20’X40′) with a full service kitchen (available for rent), public computers, a 60-seat theatre, and art gallery for monthly exhibitions.

Growing Together Behavioral Center is one of Jacksonville’s premier schools for children with autism and developmental disabilities. We pride ourselves on being a school where each child is treated as an individual, and educational plans are tailored to their personal needs.

For the 2018-2019 school year, we are excited to partner with 25 students with autism and other developmental disabilities, ages 3 through 15 years. For each child, we will offer a comprehensive educational and therapeutic program, specifically providing students with customized academic plans, while integrating proven, research-based behavioral strategies into every learning task. Our school is unique from the public school settings, as we are able to focus on the specific needs of each individual child, whether academic, life skills, or behavioral. We are also unique in that we offer year-round school and extremely low student to teacher ratio (largest class 6:2), both of which are proven methods to help our children work toward their highest level of learning.

At Growing Together we believe that all students affected by autism and other developmental disabilities can reach their fullest potential through an education based in structure, fun engagement with peers, and loving teachers and staff supporting and encouraging them daily. Each child’s individual strengths and challenges are continually assessed to direct the child’s teachers in selecting the best methodologies to target the child’s current needs. We believe that open communication between teachers, staff, and families is a must, and we have communication plans in place with each family to meet those needs.

Oceanside Rotary Skate Park is located at 800 Seminole Road in Jack Russell Park. Anyone under 17 years of age is required to have a Waiver Consent Form signed by a parent or guardian and notarized before a sticker decal is issued for admission to the skate park.

Skate park hours are 8 am to 10 pm. During inclement weather, rain or the bowl is wet, the skate park will be closed.

Private Full Time Islamic School. Al-Furqan Academy was established in August of 1997 by some of the same founding members of ICNEF (Islamic Center of Northeast Florida). They saw the immense need for an Islamic Elementary School in the city of Jacksonville, and they acted upon it. The Mandarin Museum and the 1898 St. Joseph’s Mission Schoolhouse for African-American Children are open every Saturday from 9-4 at Walter Jones Historical Park, 11964 Mandarin Rd. The museum features the Civil War steamship Maple Leaf which was sunk in the St. Johns River at Mandarin Point in 1864. On display are many artifacts recovered from the shipwreck, Civil War soldiers’ uniforms and an interactive exhibit about the diving operation that recovered the objects belonging to the soldiers. The historic schoolhouse is the last remaining one-room schoolhouse left in Duval County. While visiting, children can pick-up a park and museum scavenger hunt that helps them learn about important objects or sit in an old school desk and color or read a book, and learn about how different school was over 100 years ago. Following the visit to the museums, you will want to stroll the beautiful 10-acre Walter Jones Historical Park, walk along the St. Johns River on the boardwalk and imagine being dropped back in time to a quiet life of the early 1900s. Picnic tables and restrooms are available.

She left corporate in 2007 after a near-death experience with the birth of her first daughter, which altered the course of her life. Jordan Park is 1.5 acres of wooded park with a large playground area, trees, covered picnic pavilions, grills, a basketball court, and a community center. 

The Jordan Park Community Center is a 2000 square foot of space – housing both Beaches Habitat and the community center. Hours normal hours of operation are noon to 6 pm.  The Community Center is available for rent with a 4-hour minimum of $100, plus a $200 refundable security deposit.  

The St. Augustine Aquarium & Snorkel Adventure is an exciting new attraction, now open, where you can observe 100s of reef fish & rays or get in the water and snorkel with them! Feed sharks ,see Guitarfish, Southern rays, Yellow rays, Seahorses and touch invertebrates like starfish in our Phase 1! In Phase 2 our guests will be able to observe Bonnethead and Blacknose sharks, as well as an array of mesmerizing fish, eels and rays.
