The Swim Lesson Club indoor heated pool is located in the Mandarin area of Jacksonville. Our pool is heated 92 degrees and perfectly designed for teaching all ages of swimming instruction.

We utilize endless swimming technology allowing us to easily correct technique and achieve excellent swimming conditioning for our developing swimmers. We offer videographer and stroke analysis that is very difficult to accomplish in a normal lap swimming pool. We partner with Swim Angelfish and utilize a special methodology ideal for children with water anxiety, sensory sensitivity, autism, or in need of adapted swimming instruction.

We partner with US Masters Swimming to provide top-notch swim coaching for our developing and advanced swimmers. Our adult students benefit from our partnership with US Masters Swimming and the Emperor Penguin adult learn to swim program/ self-teaching method.

Instructors are certified Lifeguards and often Red Cross WSI certified. The Swim Lesson Club instructor mentoring process allows good instructors to become amazing working directly with the owner for weeks or months before they will teach classes independently. Our instructors are the best and achieve consistent progress with their students. We are not satisfied for our students to stagnate in lessons, our team will collaborate to adjust strategies for each student to achieve results in a fun way. We specialize in private or semi-private classes to focus our attention on each student’s unique learning process.

At Little Seals Swim School, we offer one-on-one survival swim lessons to children as young as 8 months old. Babies/infants are taught to roll over and float on their backs. Once they reach a year old (or have been walking for about 6 weeks), they are taught to swim with their face in the water. The children are then taught to sequence the swimming with the floating in order to rest and breathe while swimming and playing in the water. They repeat the swim-float-swim sequence until they reach the steps or side. Once children are fully skilled, they have the opportunity to practice their skills fully clothed for “Silly Swim” lessons. Once lessons are completed, students are encouraged to maintain their skills by attending twice-monthly maintenance lessons (or semi-annual refresher lessons). Introduction to stroke lessons are, also, available for children that are developmentally ready (usually beginning between 4 and 6 years of age). Instructors are trained to present stroke lessons in a fun way that is relatable to young children.

Willowbranch Park is located in the Riverside area, along the course of Willowbranch Creek. Former City Councilman John J. Griffin led the drive to create the park, and development began in 1916. Additional acreage was acquired southeast of Park Street between 1921 and 1925. Dr. Harold Hume donated 1700 azalea bushes around 1924 to beautify a portion of the grounds, while the Willowbranch Library opened at the park in 1930; and the creek was straightened and bulkheaded in 1934. Eventually four other small City parks/gardens were created from the park property – one south and one north of St. Johns Avenue and two along Park Street (in the 1950’s). Since its creation in 1974, Riverside Avondale Preservation (RAP) has worked to preserve and improve the park, along with the Willowbranch Park Improvement Committee that formed in 1999. Through the years it has remained one of the City’s most picturesque parks. At the instigation of Councilman Jim Overton in 2002, a bronze memorial plaque honoring Patricia Austin, the deceased wife of former mayor Ed Austin, was installed at the park in 2004. An immense live oak tree canopies two benches provided for the relaxation of visitors.

The 1st Place Running Club was formed in 1996. The club has over 300 members and a very competitive racing team. This club conducts or manages over 90 running and cross country events each year. Some of the better know races are: The Gate River Run, The Jacksonville Bank Marathon, Subaru Distance Classic 1/2 Marathon and 5K, The Tour de Pain race series, The Run for the Pies 5K, Corporate Run, The Mandarin Run 10K, and The Gator Bowl 5K. 1st Place Sports publishes the RunJax Event Guide each quarter. Children are not born with clear vision, but with visual potential. Visual development takes place during the first several years of life. Just like learning a language, children are also learning to see the world around them. Ophthalmic problems or even routine refractive errors (the need for glasses) can interfere with a child’s visual development.

It is estimated that about 80% of a child’s learning is visually based. Good vision is not only necessary for a child to learn to read and advance academically, but also for appropriate social development, behavior, self-esteem, and coordination.

Since younger children cannot express or verbalize their vision, and older children may not be aware enough to understand they have a visual problem; it is important to have any concerns evaluated. Pediatric eye evaluations and treatment differ greatly from the typical eye problems of adults. Children should be seen by someone with special skills and knowledge in pediatric eye care.

Murray Hill is a tuition-free public high school that operates two sessions per day – morning and afternoon. I am delighted to introduce myself as a retired ER Nurse with a passion for ensuring the safety and well-being of families. In my years of experience, I’ve witnessed firsthand the importance of CPR, AED, and First Aid training, especially when it comes to our little ones. That’s why I’m passionate about offering Infant, Child, and Adult CPR classes, with a special focus on addressing choking emergencies.

How many times have we heard, “I didn’t know how”? It’s a phrase that echoes in emergency rooms across the country, and I am determined to change that narrative. Every family deserves to feel confident and prepared in the face of an emergency.

Convenience is key for busy moms, which is why I bring the training directly to your group. Whether it’s a Mommy and Me gathering, a playgroup, or any other community event, I’ll be there to equip you with life-saving skills in a comfortable and familiar setting.
