In this comprehensive series, you and your partner/coach will increase your confidence in the birthing process as you gain a better understanding of what to expect. The series includes information on stages and phases of labor, pain management, cesarean birth, postpartum care and normal newborn characteristics.

Expectant parents are encouraged to complete classes between the 32nd-37th weeks so register early, as space is limited.

Safe Sitter® Class Description

Safe Sitter® prepares students in grades 6-8 to be safe when they’re home alone, watching younger siblings, or babysitting.

Students learn life-saving skills such as how to rescue someone who’s choking, and helpful information like what to do if there’s severe weather. The lessons are filled with fun activities and role-playing exercises. Students even get to use CPR manikins to practice CPR and choking rescue!

The Swim Lesson Club indoor heated pool is located in the Mandarin area of Jacksonville. Our pool is heated 92 degrees and perfectly designed for teaching all ages of swimming instruction.

We utilize endless swimming technology allowing us to easily correct technique and achieve excellent swimming conditioning for our developing swimmers. We offer videographer and stroke analysis that is very difficult to accomplish in a normal lap swimming pool. We partner with Swim Angelfish and utilize a special methodology ideal for children with water anxiety, sensory sensitivity, autism, or in need of adapted swimming instruction.

The Green Team Project (GTP) is a grassroots environmental non-profit project of the Tides Center whose focus is to empower and motivate people to make a difference environmentally through their own practices.

We are dedicated to changing long-term consumption behavior, increasing environmental awareness and stewardship, creating a greater sense of community, improving the quality of life, and having fun.

Green Team Project has educational programs for every member of the community. Through Green Teams, individuals, businesses, schools, and other organizations turn good intentions into concrete positive environmental action. The average graduate of a Green Team saves between 10-30% in each of the five resource areas: water, energy, solid waste, chemicals, and transportation, as well as a fair amount of money.

By using the team process our participants have the support and motivation they need to follow through on conservation actions, learn new things, and adopt long-lasting environmental habits.

The STEAM Cultural Passport is a Duval County program that provides students in Title I elementary schools with three to four educational field trips per year. These field trip experiences are connected to programs and offerings in Science, Technology, Engineering, The Arts, and Mathematics. Organizations are selected through an application process, and events are scheduled according to available services to schools. The program is currently funded through federal dollars and provides cultural experiences to students, most of whom would not otherwise receive these kinds of opportunities.

During each trip, the students will board a St. Johns River Taxi boat from Friendship Fountain Park for a 2-hour tour of the river. While on board, they will rotate through a series of educational activities that correlate to state standards and focus on river science.

Students will learn to use water quality monitoring equipment, gather and interpret water quality data, record observational data on manatees and dolphins in the St. Johns River, examine river plants and animals for adaptations that enable them to thrive in the river ecosystem, and use their water quality data and what they learn on the trips to make predictions about the future of the St. Johns River.

The class will teach you the proper way to install your car seat in your car. Upon completion of the class, certified technicians from Safe Kids will be on hand to help you install your seat correctly in your vehicle.

This one-night virtual class will enhance what you have already learned in your childbirth preparation class. You’ll have an opportunity to review labor, practice relaxation and breathing exercises, positions, and comfort techniques.

We offer two options for this virtual class:

In this condensed virtual class an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant or Certified Lactation Counselor will teach you the most important evidence based concepts needed to get breastfeeding off to the best start. There will be plenty of time at the end of class to ask questions.

The Mandarin Museum and the 1898 St. Joseph’s Mission Schoolhouse for African-American Children are open every Saturday from 9-4 at Walter Jones Historical Park, 11964 Mandarin Rd. The historic schoolhouse is the last remaining one-room schoolhouse left in Duval County. While visiting, children can pick-up a park and museum scavenger hunt that helps them learn about important objects or sit in an old school desk and color or read a book, and learn about how different school was over 100 years ago. Following the visit to the museums, you will want to stroll the beautiful 10-acre Walter Jones Historical Park, walk along the St. Johns River on the boardwalk and imagine being dropped back in time to a quiet life of the early 1900s. Confederate Playground is located near downtown, in the Springfield section of north Jacksonville. First named Dignan Park, for a chairman of the Board of Public Works, it opened in 1907 and contained the City’s first supervised playground. Even more, we are expanding – reaching into more and more of the communities that make up Jacksonville with even more art classes. The Art League of Jacksonville also offers scholarships to our art classes for talented youth and adults who might not be able to afford art classes in Jacksonville. At Tumblrz we offer an outstanding minis program that is specially designed for the 3 to 6 year old tumbler. Our challenging and fun program focuses on various aspects of the child’s physical, mental, and social development while having lots of fun! We begin with a foundation of gymnastics to build strength, flexibility, coordination, and endurance. Your child will learn various skills through movement such as balance and concentration when working on the beam. They will test their strength when learning basic gymnastics skills such as forward rolls and cartwheels. This sets the groundwork for moving into more advanced tumbling and gymnastics skills when they are older but not only that, these skills when started young tend to promote healthy growth and development that will follow them well into adulthood.

At Tumblrz, learning opportunities are pushed to the next level when we incorporate colors, shapes, and numbers along with using hand, eye, and foot coordination. By combining the physical and mental aspect we are able to promote the development of the child’s neurological pathways, positively effecting mood, memory, attention span, and behavior.

The multitude of skills learned in our minis tumbling program are endless! Your child will learn how to take turns, follow directions, and to respect others and their space. All of this allows the child to learn social interactions and build confidence. We know some children may be timid when trying new things. The mission of the MaliVai Washington Youth Foundation is to develop champions in classrooms, on tennis courts and throughout communities

Do you feel like your brain and body are always on go? Are you feeling unlike yourself after having a baby and/or managing motherhood? Feeling really overwhelmed with everything that is happening in the world? Brittany is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor specializing in working with moms. She helps mothers find their identity within motherhood and other interpersonal relationships and will provide you a safe space along with skills to help you work through postpartum depression and anxiety and general anxiety and depression.

James Weldon Johnson is a dedicated magnet school offering two tracks:
Academically Talented
Gifted
When filling out a magnet application, you must select only one of these tracks. If you apply for both your application may be rejected by the magnet office. You can only apply for the gifted track if your student has been certified as gifted by DCPS, otherwise you must apply for the academically talented track. Both tracks have similar curricula and course progressions, because JWJ only offers advanced courses. Students at JWJ must maintain a 2.0 GPA in either program to keep their magnet seat, and must pass all classes, including electives, to be promoted.

The MaliVai Washington Youth Foundation was founded by former tennis professional and ’96 Wimbledon finalist MaliVai Washington.

TnT is a daily after-school program. TnT (Tennis-n-Tutoring) operates from 3pm-6pm, Monday-Friday in the MaliVai Washington Youth Center. TnT contains 3 sessions daily which provide academic assistance, tennis/fitness activities and life skills classes. Each child also receives a nutritious snack daily. The program offers: Academic Support through homework assistance and mentors; Tennis and Fitness classes focusing on nutrition, introduction to the sport of tennis and practice for competitive play; Life Skills & Enrichment classes which are age appropriate and range from basic hygiene to pregnancy prevention. All students participate in community service activities and have the opportunity to go on enrichment field trips based on reaching pre-determined goals.

MWYF promotes academic achievement and positive life skills in Jacksonville youth through the game of tennis. Academic support, character development classes and community service opportunities are also provided, in addition to tennis. By correlating success on the court with success in life, we foster leadership, sportsmanship, self-esteem, confidence, discipline, accountability and the value of hard work, teamwork and individual effort.

With over 14 years of experience Dr. Brown has the clinical training to provide you with the highest level of eye care. This includes cataract diagnosis, glaucoma treatment, and emergency eye care such as eye infections, scratched eyes, or removal of a foreign body. She is passionate about contact lenses and plans to continue to provide specialty lenses such as Scleral contact lenses. She will provide orthoptic care to children and adults that have double vision or difficulties with their binocular vision.

I am a Registered Mental Health Counseling Intern with the state of Florida under supervision in the Jacksonville area. I cover a broad spectrum, from individuals to families, and children to adults. I believe in a compassionate approach, with the hope that you would “come as you are”. It is my belief that personal attachments and connections are the roots of much of our behaviors. I have experience with all ages and backgrounds. I work with ages 4-17, 18-…. I offer parenting tips, classes to come, and also family one on one.
