St. Nicholas Playground is located adjacent to Spring Park Road in the St. Nicholas/Spring Park section of Jacksonville. Following City land purchases in 1936 and 1937, the park was created and originally named Spring Park, and was expanded by additional land acquisitions in 1944. Angelina Danese Park is located in south Jacksonville, at the intersection of Danese Court and St. Augustine Road. The site comprised part of the Philips community that was established in the last half of the 1800’s. Alexander and Angelina Danese, who arrived in America as immigrants from Italy in 1885, had twelve children following their marriage in 1898. The couple established their home on the park property in 1929, and after their deaths the children wanted to honor their parents’ memory. Their son Emanuel Danese, and his wife Mary Margaret, later donated the property to the city in 1973 for use as a passive public park – in honor of his parents and with the stipulation that it be named for his mother. But the site remained a vacant tract until the city, with the aid of City Councilmen Matt Carlucci and Reggie Fullwood, developed the property as a neighborhood park, which opened in March 2003.

Confederate Playground is located near downtown, in the Springfield section of north Jacksonville. First named Dignan Park, for a chairman of the Board of Public Works, it opened in 1907 and contained the City’s first supervised playground. The United Confederate Veterans chose Jacksonville as the site for their twenty-fourth annual reunion in 1914, which was attended by an estimated 48,000 former Confederate soldiers. Many of the activities took place in the park, and five months later it was renamed, Confederate Park. Troops, many from the nearby Armory, used the playground portion of the park for drill grounds and tent/hut encampments during both World Wars. The playground was permanently established as a separate facility from Confederate Park in the 1950’s, and today provides open space and recreational facilities for residents of the Springfield and downtown communities.

“Our club is brought together by a wonderful group of women who like to have fun and form long lasting friendships.  We all strive to do our best daily, by being stay at home moms, work at home moms, or part-time working moms, and raise our children.  During the day is when we need our support the most and the best support given is from other moms doing the same thing you are doing; raising your children.”

Are you having problems learning how to skateboard? Be taught all of the fundamentals of skateboarding fast in a one-week camp. We will teach you the basics of skateboarding such as how to balance, push, turn, proper foot placement, and how to stop. Irrespective, of where you are at.. you can benefit from individualized instruction to meet your current skill level.

How to Start:

Equipment: We recommend a board and a full set of safety gear. This includes: a helmet, elbow pads, knee pads, and wrist guards. Rental equipment is available.
Location: We can do lessons in your driveway, in your garage, or at the Jacksonville skate park.

Over the summer, kids can also earn a free book when they read 8 books and record them on their Barnes and Noble Reading Log.

Visit your local Jacksonville Public Library for weekly story time events as well as plenty of fun and resources for the entire family.

Kids can use a real hammer and build something great at one of the various Build and Grow Clinics at Lowes. Registration opens a few weeks before each clinic’s date.

The Kids Workshops are FREE how-to clinics for children. The workshops teach children do-it-yourself skills and tool safety, while at the same time helping to instill a sense of accomplishment. Additionally, this fun time allows for quality one-on-one time between adults and children. In addition to the newly constructed project kit, each child receives a kid-sized orange apron, similar to The Home Depot associates’ aprons, and an achievement pin.

Jacksonville Armada FC are an announced professional soccer team to be based in Jacksonville, Florida. They are scheduled to join the North American Soccer League (NASL) for the 2015 season. They will initially play their home games at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville in Downtown Jacksonville.
