St. Nicholas Playground is located adjacent to Spring Park Road in the St. Nicholas/Spring Park section of Jacksonville. I specialize in baby + child portraiture because some of the most precious photographs I have are those of my mother when she was a child. She died in 2015, and all that are left are the photos. Theatre Jacksonville’s newest outreach educational program is Theatre for Babies! The 90-minute event includes the show, Everything Is A Circle, Theatre Jacksonville’s original play.

Infants 3 to 12 months with parents or caregivers will be asked to remove their shoes and sit on the floor. Babies make noise, we know that. Their engagement is welcome in all ways. In order to join the Pawsitive Reading program, children AND at least one parent/guardian must first attend a one-time Pawsitive Reading orientation. We offer several orientations each month. Upcoming orientation dates and sign-up links are below. Advance registration is required.

Please note: We are unable to offer Pawsitive Reading orientations in June and July due to JHS Summer Camp.

Orientations will take place in either the JHS Education Center or Conference Room (both are located upstairs, above the Adoption Center). Our address is 8464 Beach Blvd. Please arrive on time. The orientation will be around 40 minutes in length.

After attending an orientation, children and an adult chaperone may come to JHS to read to the animals anytime our Adoption Center is open (12pm-7pm on weekdays, 10am-5pm on weekends). Participants must sign in and out at the front desk when visiting JHS to read.

To ensure that our animals benefit from the program, we ask that readers spend at least 30 minutes reading – there is no maximum time limit.

Children may read to either dogs or cats and may bring their reading materials or borrow books from our Pawsitive Reading library.

Participants will receive a free book courtesy of The Jim Moran Foundation while supplies are available.

LaVilla School of the Arts is a public magnet school in Duval County, Florida dedicated to serving students in grades 6-8 with a passion for the arts. We are an “A” school that combines a strong academic foundation with focused study in creative writing, dance, video production, music, performance, and visual arts.

Angelina Danese Park is located in south Jacksonville, at the intersection of Danese Court and St. Augustine Road. The site comprised part of the Philips community that was established in the last half of the 1800’s. Alexander and Angelina Danese, who arrived in America as immigrants from Italy in 1885, had twelve children following their marriage in 1898. The couple established their home on the park property in 1929, and after their deaths the children wanted to honor their parents’ memory. Their son Emanuel Danese, and his wife Mary Margaret, later donated the property to the city in 1973 for use as a passive public park – in honor of his parents and with the stipulation that it be named for his mother. But the site remained a vacant tract until the city, with the aid of City Councilmen Matt Carlucci and Reggie Fullwood, developed the property as a neighborhood park, which opened in March 2003.

JCC offers an exciting and unique music experience for children who have a passion for singing. The Jacksonville Children’s Chorus is beginning its new season on September 15th, 2020. Please encourage your aspiring singers to audition with us for the upcoming season if they are interested in enhancing their music education and opportunities.

While prior musical training is not necessary to participate, an audition is required for singers in grades 2-12. To ensure that we are keeping your health and safety our top priority, auditions can be scheduled virtually or in-person with social distancing and a mask required. There is no fee to audition. Need-based scholarships are available.

The MaliVai Washington Youth Foundation was founded by former tennis professional and ’96 Wimbledon finalist MaliVai Washington.

TnT is a daily after-school program. TnT (Tennis-n-Tutoring) operates from 3pm-6pm, Monday-Friday in the MaliVai Washington Youth Center. TnT contains 3 sessions daily which provide academic assistance, tennis/fitness activities and life skills classes. Each child also receives a nutritious snack daily. The program offers: Academic Support through homework assistance and mentors; Tennis and Fitness classes focusing on nutrition, introduction to the sport of tennis and practice for competitive play; Life Skills & Enrichment classes which are age appropriate and range from basic hygiene to pregnancy prevention. All students participate in community service activities and have the opportunity to go on enrichment field trips based on reaching pre-determined goals.

MWYF promotes academic achievement and positive life skills in Jacksonville youth through the game of tennis. Florida C. Dwight Memorial Playground is located in the La Villa section near downtown Jacksonville, just west of Interstate 95. The park comprised a portion of the Town of La Villa, which was subdivided and incorporated after the Civil War and remained independent until annexed by Jacksonville in 1887. After the City purchased the land in 1904, it became a park for the area’s white residents known as La Villa Park. In 1929, the City’s second playground for African-American children was established there and named La Villa Playground. Florida Dwight (1886-1977), the playground’s first recreation director, pioneered organized recreation for the City’s African-American community from 1918 (with the opening of Oakland Park) until her retirement in 1950. To honor her years of devoted work, the playground was renamed in 1983, and then designated a local historic landmark in 1995.

The playground at J.P. Small Park was renamed in June 2007 to honor Eugene M. GLover. The center includes artifacts, research books and video history of the Durkeeville neighborhood.

I have owned and operated my cleaning business Heavenly Cleaning Jax for 12 years , I have been married for 21 years and a Mom to Matthew (21) and Zach (15) . I love living in Jacksonville and love serving my community. I started my business because I love to clean and organize, at the time I started my business we needed extra income but I also wanted to be with my kids as much as possible when they weren’t in school , I looked into a ton of jobs even interviewed for some but none of them had a flexible schedule. I decided the best solution was to start my own business where I could be my own boss and make my own schedule.

Here I am 12 years later with a passion for helping Moms !!! Helping my clients gives them more time with their families and I love every second of it!! I love your kiddos and your animals( except spiders I don’t love spiders) .I try to keep my prices affordable so all Moms can have their homes cleaned. I have babysat for my clients , dog and cat sat for , played with the animals and the kiddos , I’ve been a shoulder to cry on and I’ve cried on a shoulder. The thing that I am most grateful for the last 12 years is the relationships that I have built and friends I have made along the way.

The mission of Youth Crisis Center is to provide safe shelter for at-risk children and youth, counseling for families in crisis, links to community resources, and life skills training for at-risk adolescents emerging into adulthood, all with the goal of strengthening families and restoring hope.
