Program Offered:

Lone Star is a tuition-free public high school that operates two sessions per day – morning and afternoon. Students have the opportunity to enroll in the four-hour session that best fits their personal schedule so they have the flexibility to earn a quality education while working, caring for family, or managing other commitments.

Once enrolled, the school works with the student to create a personalized academic plan to graduate, and immediately helps the student to start earning credits as his/her own pace. Courses are computer-based to help the student to focus and track progress, and certified teachers provide individualized support.

The school serves ages 16 to 21. Graduation ceremonies are held in June.

There is no cost to attend. All programs are free.

Our custom designed curriculum will utilize free, industry accepted materials. All activities are ground based and will be conducted at our facility, in our classroom or aircraft hangar, but parents will have the option of purchasing flight lessons for their children to enhance what they learn during the course.

The mission of The Jericho School (non profit 501(c) 3 corporation) is to provide comprehensive, individualized science-based education not otherwise available in our community. We believe those children with autism and other developmental delays deserve the opportunity to reach their full potential. The school’s curriculum provides effective treatment and education programs to children and their families based on Applied Behavior Analysis and Verbal Behavior.

The Community Outreach Program allows The Jericho School to provide parents and other community members access to training and education training free of charge. The program increases parents’ and service providers’ knowledge, skills and abilities for working with children with autism; teaching specific skills, reducing inappropriate behaviors and developing language skills.

The Program includes a free 2-Day Workshop to provide parents and caregivers training in the best practices in working with children with autism. Your trip begins with a scavenger hunt in our Permanent Exhibit featuring the six beach communities of Mayport, Atlantic Beach, Neptune Beach, Jacksonville Beach, Ponte Vedra, and Palm Valley. On tour through our History Park, you can visit the 1911 Steam Locomotive, the 1900 Florida East Coast Mayport Depot, and the 1900 Florida East Coast Foreman’s House while having the stories of each building brought to life by the docent. Finally, discover our Heritage Demonstration Garden, maintained by the Master gardeners through the University of Florida IFAS program. In the garden, you will have the opportunity to learn about seasonal vegetables, sugar cane, and composting. Village Dance Center located in Jacksonville Florida is directed by Karen Norris.

Preschool: Ballet/Tap combination with acrobatics. These classes are available Monday-Thursday 2:45-3:45 p.m. (Please note on the contract if you prefer a certain day.) This year we are also offering a Monday morning class from 9:00-10:00 a.m.

Kindergarten: Ballet/Tap combination with acrobatics.

First through 4th grades may sign up for Ballet, Jazz, Tap, and Acrobatics. Remember, each class is separate with their own recital dance and costume. For example; if your child takes all 4 disciplines they will have 4 costumes. First grade does not have a recital dance for acrobatics, therefore would not have a costume for that class.

Fifth through 12th grades may sign up for Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Pointe, and Acrobatics. Pointe class must be with approval. Ballet and Pointe are two separate classes. You must take Ballet in order to take Pointe. The recital dance is learned during the Ballet Technique class when both Pointe and Ballet students are present.

Open Ballet Class: This is an additional dance class available for those students already enrolled in ballet. This is a class focused on ballet technique, stretching, and conditioning. It will be taught on an advanced level. It is open to anyone currently in Junior, Advanced 1 or Advanced 2 classes.

Extra Classes: If you wish to take additional classes please indicate on your registration form by putting the number of classes next to each discipline. (For example; Ballet – 2.) Any serious student should be taking a minimum of 2 Ballet classes per week beginning in 5th grade. Younger students may also take additional classes with approval.

Student Assistants: Students 7th grade and older are eligible to assist with classes. A tuition discount will be offered for assisting. You must assist for the entire year in order to receive a discount. Priority is given to older dancers. Please note on your registration the day and times you are available

Classes are leveled as students mature. Please respect your teacher’s placement. If changes need to be made, they will be adjusted after classes begin. We realize students dancing in summer programs may need to be re-evaluated in the Fall

Ultimate Beaches Guide: We find ourselves at Jacksonville Beach events all season long. It is a vibrant, bustling beach. There are so many fun festivals, concerts, and movie nights at the amphitheater. If you are heading out to enjoy the sand and waves on Jacksonville Beach, you will find ample parking across the beach; but be careful that you do not park in a restricted area. If you think your little one might need to get off the beach and stroll away from the sand for a time, this a terrific beach for you. There is a park on 9th Avenue North, Tall Pines Park, that can provide a nice change of pace. There are also easy-to-access public restrooms on 3rd Avenue North, 2nd Avenue North, and 5th Avenue North. It may sound crazy but my favorite eatery to frequent on my Jacksonville Beach days is a grocery store, Native Sun. This place makes delicious juices and has lots of yummy ready eat foods that are perfect to take with you. The Jacksonville Fire Museum serves as an educational link between past and present. Through the years, thousands of visitors have toured the museum, learning about the rich history of the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department.

At the Jacksonville Fire Museum, you will see thousands of items detailing the history of the fire service not only in Jacksonville, but the entire state of Florida. Exhibits include photos from the Great Fire of 1901, a fully-restored 1902 American LaFrance horse-drawn fire engine, and a working 1926 American LaFrance fire engine.

If your kids love fire trucks and firemen then this museum is worth a visit. Located in Metropolitan Park this small museum offers visitors lots of information about the history of fire service in Jacksonville and in Florida.

Jax Beach Surf Shop offers both private and group surf lessons along with stand up paddle boarding lessons. Fifth through 12th grades may sign up for Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Pointe, and Acrobatics. Pointe class must be with approval.  Ballet and Pointe are two separate classes.  You must take Ballet in order to take Pointe.  There is however one costume for the two classes.  The recital dance is learned during the Ballet Technique class when both Pointe and Ballet students are present.

Cesery Park is located in Arlington’s Lake Lucina neighborhood, at the corner of Cesery Boulevard and Columbine Street. The park and boulevard are named for William R. Cesery (1912-1996), a pioneer developer of Arlington who started the trend of building larger apartment complexes in Jacksonville. About 1950, he purchased forty acres for his first subdivision, which took its name from a large water hole that he called Lake Lucina. General Trading Company, whose principals, D.W. and F.W. Tredinick, founded the Jax Liquor Store chain, donated the land for the park to Duval County in 1961. The County created a tot lot for children, and the City took over its operation following consolidation in 1968. A wooden pavilion and picnic tables were added to the park in 1996.

Participants receive a safety orientation and friendly staff are on hand to answer your questions. Harness-free climbing over thick padded mats means the only equipment you need are climbing shoes and chalk. Bring your own climbing shoes or rent them for $3.
