In this comprehensive series, you and your partner/coach will increase your confidence in the birthing process as you gain a better understanding of what to expect. The series includes information on stages and phases of labor, pain management, cesarean birth, postpartum care and normal newborn characteristics.

Expectant parents are encouraged to complete classes between the 32nd-37th weeks so register early, as space is limited.

Safe Sitter® Class Description

Safe Sitter® prepares students in grades 6-8 to be safe when they’re home alone, watching younger siblings, or babysitting.

Students learn life-saving skills such as how to rescue someone who’s choking, and helpful information like what to do if there’s severe weather. The lessons are filled with fun activities and role-playing exercises. Students even get to use CPR manikins to practice CPR and choking rescue!

The Green Team Project (GTP) is a grassroots environmental non-profit project of the Tides Center whose focus is to empower and motivate people to make a difference environmentally through their own practices.

We are dedicated to changing long-term consumption behavior, increasing environmental awareness and stewardship, creating a greater sense of community, improving the quality of life, and having fun.

Green Team Project has educational programs for every member of the community. Through Green Teams, individuals, businesses, schools, and other organizations turn good intentions into concrete positive environmental action. The average graduate of a Green Team saves between 10-30% in each of the five resource areas: water, energy, solid waste, chemicals, and transportation, as well as a fair amount of money.

By using the team process our participants have the support and motivation they need to follow through on conservation actions, learn new things, and adopt long-lasting environmental habits.

The STEAM Cultural Passport is a Duval County program that provides students in Title I elementary schools with three to four educational field trips per year. These field trip experiences are connected to programs and offerings in Science, Technology, Engineering, The Arts, and Mathematics. Organizations are selected through an application process, and events are scheduled according to available services to schools. The program is currently funded through federal dollars and provides cultural experiences to students, most of whom would not otherwise receive these kinds of opportunities.

During each trip, the students will board a St. Johns River Taxi boat from Friendship Fountain Park for a 2-hour tour of the river. While on board, they will rotate through a series of educational activities that correlate to state standards and focus on river science.

Students will learn to use water quality monitoring equipment, gather and interpret water quality data, record observational data on manatees and dolphins in the St. Johns River, examine river plants and animals for adaptations that enable them to thrive in the river ecosystem, and use their water quality data and what they learn on the trips to make predictions about the future of the St. Johns River.

Jax Stroller Strength lets moms workout with their kids and gives them a chance to connect with other mothers. Bootcamp style classes are offered every day of the week at the Beaches, Mandarin, Riverside and Nocatee locations. The class will teach you the proper way to install your car seat in your car. Upon completion of the class, certified technicians from Safe Kids will be on hand to help you install your seat correctly in your vehicle.

This one-night virtual class will enhance what you have already learned in your childbirth preparation class. We offer two options for this virtual class:

In this condensed virtual class an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant or Certified Lactation Counselor will teach you the most important evidence based concepts needed to get breastfeeding off to the best start. There will be plenty of time at the end of class to ask questions.

Haley and Christian, parents of Camden, 6, and Luna, 3, live in Jacksonville, FL. They have talked about creating their own nonprofit organization for almost five years now and decided in 2023 to make it official. Their passion for raising awareness for cystic fibrosis comes from their son, who was diagnosed at two weeks old after several complications. Camden has had six hospitalizations, three surgeries, and numerous other cystic fibrosis-related complications. His care is managed by Nemours Children’s Health in Jacksonville, FL.

The Christoffersens created Camden’s Corner (a nonprofit organization) to raise awareness for cystic fibrosis and build a community for caregivers, as we know first-hand how hard it can be to be a caregiver and a parent to a medically complex child. Our fundraising events help us raise money towards a cure (through the CFF), support the care center in Jacksonville, and build programs for people living with cystic fibrosis and their caregivers.

The Art League of Jacksonville also offers scholarships to our art classes for talented youth and adults who might not be able to afford art classes in Jacksonville. Art, Music, Drama & Dance Classes

Angelina Danese Park is located in south Jacksonville, at the intersection of Danese Court and St. Augustine Road. The site comprised part of the Philips community that was established in the last half of the 1800’s. Alexander and Angelina Danese, who arrived in America as immigrants from Italy in 1885, had twelve children following their marriage in 1898. The couple established their home on the park property in 1929, and after their deaths the children wanted to honor their parents’ memory. Their son Emanuel Danese, and his wife Mary Margaret, later donated the property to the city in 1973 for use as a passive public park – in honor of his parents and with the stipulation that it be named for his mother. But the site remained a vacant tract until the city, with the aid of City Councilmen Matt Carlucci and Reggie Fullwood, developed the property as a neighborhood park, which opened in March 2003.

Insomnia Cookies is a rapidly expanding late-night bakery concept with offices in both New York and Philadelphia and newly opened in Jacksonville. The mission of Jacksonville Area Legal Aid is to provide high quality legal assistance to low income and special needs groups – to empower them to accomplish energetic and affirmative advocacy, all to alleviate the circumstances, incidents and causes of poverty and discrimination.

Developed during the Great Depression and subsequent recession of 1937, the organization that has become Jacksonville Area Legal Aid, Inc. (JALA) was born when a group of Jacksonville Bar attorneys banded together to provide legal services to those in need. Called different names over the years including Duval County Legal Aid Association, it was officially named Jacksonville Area Legal Aid in 1973. The organization achieved 501(c)3 status in 1976. JALA now serves 17 counties of North Florida including Alachua, Baker, Bradford, Clay, Columbia, Dixie, Duval, Gilchrist, Hamilton, Lafayette, Levy, Madison, Nassau, St. Johns, Suwannee, Taylor and Union.

JALA is a primary engine for economic and social justice in Northeast Florida.

Peterbrooke founder and renowned chocolate expert, Phyllis Lockwood Geiger, opened her first chocolate shop in Jacksonville, Florida’s San Marco neighborhood in 1983. Her mission was to bring back the art of European chocolate making and translate it into what she calls, “Your Neighborhood Chocolatier.”

Every person deserves to have his/her basic needs met. Since 1979, UCOM UrbanServ, Inc has been dedicated to ensure that no one in our community goes hungry.

Supports the Guardian Ad Litem program in its advocacy of abused, abandoned and neglected children in the area. Contributions will be used to recruit and train Guardian Ad Litem volunteers; hire special advocates; provide for the special medical, developmental and psychological needs of children in the dependency system; and assist children with AIDS.

For sixty years, our cornerstone has been to create the love of learning in a child. This cornerstone includes a well-defined purpose to provide a loving and friendly Christian atmosphere where a growing child’s spiritual, social, mental and physical needs can be nurtured and developed.

Our classrooms are designed to encourage each child’s cognitive thinking skills through hands-on learning centers. We believe that learning by doing and discovery is very important. Therefore, we provide experiences in the languages, science, nutrition/food, creative movements, social studies, art, music, math, media/computer, pre-reading and writing skills.

We make cupcakes, cakepops and cupcake “cakes!” We also serve coffee, capuccino and latte’s and gourmet soups on Fridays!

Andrew Jackson High School offers a number of programs that help students develop into world-class global citizens. Below is a list of the programs that we have to offer:

AIR FORCE JROTC MAGNET The Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps is a magnet program that focuses on leadership education to instill values of citizenship, character, and integrity. Upon completing three years of the Air Force JROTC program, students receive a Certificate of Completion. If cadets elect to enlist in the Armed Forces, the Certificate of Completion from the JROTC program will allow them to enlist as a pay grade E-3 in the Army, Navy, or Air Force, or an E2 pay grade in the Marine Corp.

HEALTH SCIENCES ACADEMY The Health Sciences Academy offers a unique educational experience to students who wish to pursue a career in the health care industry. Upon graduating from Andrew Jackson, students have the entry-level job skills needed to successfully pursue careers in many of the various health-related occupations. The curriculum emphasizes hands-on experience and rigorous critical thinking skills. This program also enables students to meet high school graduation requirements while earning college credits.

Our Community Education program provides quality services and programs after-school that involve various groups and agencies throughout our community. These include classes, homeowner’s groups, Scout troops, support groups, health and crime-related workshops and more.
