Our Mission: We help at-risk students earn a regular high school diploma and prepare for post-secondary success. We offer an instructional calendar beyond the traditional 180 days to give students more opportunity to continue working toward meeting graduation goals. Attendance throughout the school’s instructional calendar is mandatory and necessary for success. Please see the published school calendar.
Program Offered:

Murray Hill is a tuition-free public high school that operates two sessions per day – morning and afternoon. Students have the opportunity to enroll in the session that best fits their personal schedule so they have the flexibility to earn a quality education while working, caring for family, or managing other commitments.

Once enrolled, the school works with the student to create a personalized academic plan to graduate, and immediately helps the student to start earning credits at his/her own pace. Courses are computer-based to help the student to focus and track progress, and certified teachers provide individualized support.

The school serves ages 16 to 21. Graduation ceremonies are held in June.

There is no cost to attend. All programs are free.

Kingdom Kids Preschool is a half-day Christian preschool and a ministry of CrossRoad Church.

Our mission is to provide quality education for children in an age-appropriate and loving way, as we strive to exemplify Christ in both excellence and compassion. Yeshá Ministries is an Olympic and AAU sanctioned Taekwondo organization. Classes are free of monthly charges so anyone can participate. We give our time and energy to those willing to learn. Our goal is to offer balanced training so each person may reach their full potential through physical, mental and spiritual training. Pura Bean Coffee was founded on the principal of enjoying coffee and life. It all began after several excursions to Costa Rica where we fell in love with the local coffee and lifestyle. As raving fans we decided it would be fun to make our own coffee back home in Jacksonville, FL. Using our daughter’s popcorn popper we began learning the craft of roasting and creating blends of coffee for friends and family. Our obsession grew to roasting coffee for real in the back of our own shop, where we serve up specialty blends from all over the world and deliver to local retailers in our 1979 Orange VW Bus.
To this day we continue the pursuit of providing you that perfect cup, so you slow down, drink coffee and enjoy life!

Inspired by our travels to Asia and memories of growing up, we all craved the unapologetic flavors of true Asian food—dumplings with bounce, spicy curries, crisp pork belly, and the list goes on. When in Asia, we knew the best dishes were on the streets from hawker stalls. At home, we turned to parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles to get a fix from generations-old comfort food recipes. We sought out restaurants in hopes of finding a gem, only to be disappointed 9 times out of 10.

Finally, it hit us—we had to redefine “eating Asian” in the states. From day one, the food was at the core of Hawkers Asian Street Fare—generations of Asian street food recipes have been passed down, some of which are still served on the streets of Asia. But there had to be more. We wanted to build a restaurant that would tell the story of the hawker experience in a subtle and design-conscious way. We wanted great drinks to pair with great food. Most importantly, we wanted to create a place that was high-energy, but approachable in a t-shirt or a sports coat.

Family Support Services of North Florida (FSSNF) is the lead agency for foster care, adoption and family preservation in Duval and Nassau counties. Through community-based care, FSS provides services and programs to help prevent child abuse and neglect, to promote a healthy family environment and to care for our community’s children in foster care.

The non-profit organization was established in 2001 to provide child protective services in Duval County, and was expanded to also serve Nassau County in 2007.

A comprehensive pediatric eye exam can diagnose many different vision disorders. Some of the more common eye conditions in children are: Your child may be nearsighted (myopia), farsighted (hyperopia) or have astigmatism. It is important that children who need glasses, wear them full time when they are young to develop good vision in each eye and three-dimensional vision. Dr. Schnipper and Dr. Brown offer comprehensive Eye Exams for children of all ages.

During your child’s comprehensive eye exam, visual acuity will be tested. This test measures the smallest object each eye can see at a certain distance. Normally, each eye will be done individually by covering one eye at a time. It may be necessary to tape a patch over a child’s eye to keep him from peeking. There are two types of charts used when testing children’s visions.

The use of the Snellen chart is the most common way to test visual acuity. This chart letters and numbers that decrease in size. When taking the test, the distance between the patient and the chart is 20 feet. 20/20 vision is normal. If a person has 20/40 vision, they see at twenty feet what a normal eye sees at forty feet. If a person has 20/200 vision, they are legally blind. They only see at twenty feet what a normal eye sees at two hundred feet. If they have 20/15 vision, they see better than normal. They see at twenty feet what the normal eye would have to bring in to fifteen feet to see.

For children that do not know letters and numbers, they can be tested with the Tumbling E chart. To take this test, the child points his/her finger in the same direction as the E is pointing. Children who are younger than four may have trouble with this test so there are several different tests used to obtain a child’s accurate visual acuity.

After attending an orientation, children and an adult chaperone may come to JHS to read to the animals anytime our Adoption Center is open (12pm-7pm on weekdays, 10am-5pm on weekends). Participants must sign in and out at the front desk when visiting JHS to read.

To ensure that our animals benefit from the program, we ask that readers spend at least 30 minutes reading – there is no maximum time limit.

Children may read to either dogs or cats and may bring their reading materials or borrow books from our Pawsitive Reading library.

Participants will receive a free book courtesy of The Jim Moran Foundation while supplies are available.

The Museum of Science and History is a museum located  in downtown Jacksonville.  It is a private, non-profit institution located on the Southbank Riverwalk, and the city’s most visited museum. It specializes in science and local history exhibits.

My initial introduction to this career was watching the reality show called “Meet the Cromarties”; Antonio Cromartie’s wife was giving birth to his 13th and their 5th baby together. She had an at-home water birth and the engagement of the doula enlightened me. The doula helped her manage the pain with no medication, was supportive and comforting. I was genuinely, in awe. The Jacksonville Fire Museum serves as an educational link between past and present. Through the years, thousands of visitors have toured the museum, learning about the rich history of the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department.

At the Jacksonville Fire Museum, you will see thousands of items detailing the history of the fire service not only in Jacksonville, but the entire state of Florida. Exhibits include photos from the Great Fire of 1901, a fully-restored 1902 American LaFrance horse-drawn fire engine, and a working 1926 American LaFrance fire engine.

If your kids love fire trucks and firemen then this museum is worth a visit. Located in Metropolitan Park this small museum offers visitors lots of information about the history of fire service in Jacksonville and in Florida.

Hello, my name is Dabbs McInnis, CEO of Dare 2 Hire Different a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that is devoted to making a difference in the community. We provide programs that benefit people with different abilities in our community and surrounding areas. Our newest program is designed to give people with special needs a place to show their many talents. Each individual will have the opportunity to be creative and show the community their love for music, singing, dancing, acting, or fashion, just to name a few creative arts.

We want to help them bring out certain potentials within themselves. We are raising funds to set up a creator’s studio and Music venue where they can come learn and practice. We also want a space for music therapy as it: reduces anxiety and physical effects of stress, improves healing, can reduce depression and other symptoms in the elderly, helps to reduce symptoms of psychological disorders including schizophrenia, can help improves self-expression and communication

From ballet and opera to contemporary pop, jazz, rock, country and blues The Florida Theatre offers 200 cultural and entertainment events annually for every taste and age. More than just an entertainment center, The Florida Theatre is also home to graduations, awards ceremonies, lectures, business meetings and charity events that support the community’s schools, churches, hospitals and civic groups.

As an anchor to downtown development along the beautiful St. Johns River, The Florida Theatre draws 250,000 people to Jacksonville’s center each year. The magnificently restored Florida Theatre is recognized as one of the finest concert venues in the Southeast. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The Florida Theatre holds special memories for four generations. From the Vaudeville acts and silent films of its earliest days to today’s blend of performances of all kinds, The Florida Theatre has served as Jacksonville’s premier entertainment center since 1927.

By focusing on fun and good sportsmanship for kids ages 3-14 and convenience for their parents, we’re redefining youth sports across the country. While we offer flag football, basketball, soccer, t-ball and other sports for boys and girls, we provide an incomparable experience that goes far beyond the game. Locations include Liberty Pines Academy, Nocatee Community Park, South Beach Park, Sportsplex (Phillips Highway), The Bolles School and UNF Intramural Field.

For 30 years, Sally Corporation has hosted thousands of visitors for a free tour of their robot factory. Tours are offered on Tuesday and Thursday, hourly from 9am-1pm. Minimum age is 7. No tours during July or August.
