At Little Seals Swim School, we offer one-on-one survival swim lessons to children as young as 8 months old. Babies/infants are taught to roll over and float on their backs. Once they reach a year old (or have been walking for about 6 weeks), they are taught to swim with their face in the water. The children are then taught to sequence the swimming with the floating in order to rest and breathe while swimming and playing in the water. They repeat the swim-float-swim sequence until they reach the steps or side. Once children are fully skilled, they have the opportunity to practice their skills fully clothed for “Silly Swim” lessons. Once lessons are completed, students are encouraged to maintain their skills by attending twice-monthly maintenance lessons (or semi-annual refresher lessons). Introduction to stroke lessons are, also, available for children that are developmentally ready (usually beginning between 4 and 6 years of age). Instructors are trained to present stroke lessons in a fun way that is relatable to young children.

The Swim Lesson Club indoor heated pool is located in the Mandarin area of Jacksonville. Our pool is heated 92 degrees and perfectly designed for teaching all ages of swimming instruction.

We utilize endless swimming technology allowing us to easily correct technique and achieve excellent swimming conditioning for our developing swimmers. We offer videographer and stroke analysis that is very difficult to accomplish in a normal lap swimming pool. We partner with Swim Angelfish and utilize a special methodology ideal for children with water anxiety, sensory sensitivity, autism, or in need of adapted swimming instruction.

We partner with US Masters Swimming to provide top-notch swim coaching for our developing and advanced swimmers. Our adult students benefit from our partnership with US Masters Swimming and the Emperor Penguin adult learn to swim program/ self-teaching method.

Instructors are certified Lifeguards and often Red Cross WSI certified. The Swim Lesson Club instructor mentoring process allows good instructors to become amazing working directly with the owner for weeks or months before they will teach classes independently. We are not satisfied for our students to stagnate in lessons, our team will collaborate to adjust strategies for each student to achieve results in a fun way. Murray Hill Playground is located in the Murray Hill section of west Jacksonville. One of the City’s oldest schools, Ruth N. Upson Elementary (formerly the Murray Hill School built in 1916)) resides just northwest of the park. Murray Hill incorporated in 1916 and remained a separate municipality until its annexation by Jacksonville in 1925. In 1941, the heirs of J. Graeme Drew sold the park property to the City. Several athletic associations have used and helped maintain the playground over the years including the Murray Hill Youth Assoc., the Wright Youth Assoc., and most recently the Murray Hill Athletic Assoc. Improvement projects in 2001-2003 added two scoreboards, a walk path, fencing for two T-ball fields, a water feature, three portable shelters, a playscape and more.

Due to the special needs of the children served, DLC maintains a professional staff including a Registered Nurse, Nursing Assistants, Special Education Teachers, Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists and Speech Therapists. Willowbranch Park playground is located right behind the Willowbranch Library. Other amenities include baseball field, basketball court, picnic tables, benches, a little creek and plenty of trees.

Willowbranch Park is located in the Riverside area, along the course of Willowbranch Creek. Former City Councilman John J. Griffin led the drive to create the park, and development began in 1916. Additional acreage was acquired southeast of Park Street between 1921 and 1925. Dr. Harold Hume donated 1700 azalea bushes around 1924 to beautify a portion of the grounds, while the Willowbranch Library opened at the park in 1930; and the creek was straightened and bulkheaded in 1934. Eventually four other small City parks/gardens were created from the park property – one south and one north of St. Johns Avenue and two along Park Street (in the 1950’s). Since its creation in 1974, Riverside Avondale Preservation (RAP) has worked to preserve and improve the park, along with the Willowbranch Park Improvement Committee that formed in 1999. Through the years it has remained one of the City’s most picturesque parks. At the instigation of Councilman Jim Overton in 2002, a bronze memorial plaque honoring Patricia Austin, the deceased wife of former mayor Ed Austin, was installed at the park in 2004. An immense live oak tree canopies two benches provided for the relaxation of visitors.

Our Mission: We help at-risk students earn a regular high school diploma and prepare for post-secondary success. We offer an instructional calendar beyond the traditional 180 days to give students more opportunity to continue working toward meeting graduation goals. Program Offered:

Murray Hill is a tuition-free public high school that operates two sessions per day – morning and afternoon. Students have the opportunity to enroll in the session that best fits their personal schedule so they have the flexibility to earn a quality education while working, caring for family, or managing other commitments.

Once enrolled, the school works with the student to create a personalized academic plan to graduate, and immediately helps the student to start earning credits at his/her own pace. Courses are computer-based to help the student to focus and track progress, and certified teachers provide individualized support.

The school serves ages 16 to 21. Graduation ceremonies are held in June.

There is no cost to attend. All programs are free.

You and your child will explore the world of colors using the five senses! We will get a little messy through touch, taste, and a lot of fun! Our time together will include: circle time, using the senses, learning through stories, and nutritious, yummy snacks! This class is most appropriate for children aged 10 months to about 3.5 years old!

Classes are held at the Dubow Preschool in Mandarin at 3662 Crown Point Rd.

This class combines strength training and power walking. Class ends with a focus on improving core strength and flexibility. This 45 minutes we will focus on Mommy or Daddy, so any child who still sits in a stroller is welcome!

James Weldon Johnson is a dedicated magnet school offering two tracks:
Academically Talented
Gifted
When filling out a magnet application, you must select only one of these tracks. If you apply for both your application may be rejected by the magnet office. You can only apply for the gifted track if your student has been certified as gifted by DCPS, otherwise you must apply for the academically talented track. Both tracks have similar curricula and course progressions, because JWJ only offers advanced courses. Students at JWJ must maintain a 2.0 GPA in either program to keep their magnet seat, and must pass all classes, including electives, to be promoted.

Central Riverside is a gifted and talented magnet school. The Gifted and Academically Talented Program offers all students an enriched academic learning experience. Classes include more in-depth application of skills through special projects and hands-on experiences. Gifted activities and instructional strategies are incorporated into the regular academic programs. Students who have been staffed into the Gifted Program receive one full day of Gifted Resource on-site.

The Little Gym is a recreational gymnastics center for ages 4 mo-12yr. We offer a safe and inspiring space to direct their energy, build confidence, and develop key skills. Our curriculum follows American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) milestones to help your child through important developmental moments. We also offer Parents Night Out, private play dates, camps, and birthday parties!

Crabtree Park is located in the Lakewood area, three blocks east of the intersection of San Jose Blvd. and University Blvd. West. Walter Crabtree developed the entire Lakewood area between 1946 and 1961, some of it around picturesque New Ross Creek that meanders through the northwest section. He conveyed the land for the park to Duval County in several deeds between 1957 and 1963. For over fifty years, Walter R. Crabtree (1899-1993) was a real estate developer and builder in Duval County. He operated his own lumber company, and built the Lakewood Apartments across from the park. Through the years, sports have been the main activity at Crabtree Park: organized youth baseball/softball games and pickup basketball games.

Viv & Olive, formerly W(e)il’d Hair & Accessories, was created after my sweet and sassy, curly-haired daughter refused to wear any of the hair accessories I had made for her. Despite her rejection, I continued making hair bows, hoping that one day she would enjoy accessorizing. I shared pictures of my bows with friends and was invited to join a hair bow swap group. From there, I participated in a real live vendor fair! Envisioning unique designs has inspired me to get in touch with my artistic side.
