The Green Team Project (GTP) is a grassroots environmental non-profit project of the Tides Center whose focus is to empower and motivate people to make a difference environmentally through their own practices.

We are dedicated to changing long-term consumption behavior, increasing environmental awareness and stewardship, creating a greater sense of community, improving the quality of life, and having fun.

Green Team Project has educational programs for every member of the community. Through Green Teams, individuals, businesses, schools, and other organizations turn good intentions into concrete positive environmental action. The average graduate of a Green Team saves between 10-30% in each of the five resource areas: water, energy, solid waste, chemicals, and transportation, as well as a fair amount of money.

By using the team process our participants have the support and motivation they need to follow through on conservation actions, learn new things, and adopt long-lasting environmental habits.

The STEAM Cultural Passport is a Duval County program that provides students in Title I elementary schools with three to four educational field trips per year. These field trip experiences are connected to programs and offerings in Science, Technology, Engineering, The Arts, and Mathematics. Organizations are selected through an application process, and events are scheduled according to available services to schools. The program is currently funded through federal dollars and provides cultural experiences to students, most of whom would not otherwise receive these kinds of opportunities.

During each trip, the students will board a St. Johns River Taxi boat from Friendship Fountain Park for a 2-hour tour of the river. While on board, they will rotate through a series of educational activities that correlate to state standards and focus on river science.

Students will learn to use water quality monitoring equipment, gather and interpret water quality data, record observational data on manatees and dolphins in the St. Johns River, examine river plants and animals for adaptations that enable them to thrive in the river ecosystem, and use their water quality data and what they learn on the trips to make predictions about the future of the St. Johns River.

Jax Stroller Strength lets moms workout with their kids and gives them a chance to connect with other mothers. Bootcamp style classes are offered every day of the week at the Beaches, Mandarin, Riverside and Nocatee locations. To be an active member of AAPOS, one must complete one or two additional years of approved fellowship training following a 3 year residency in comprehensive ophthalmology. Members are certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and must devote at least 75% of their practice to children and adults with strabismus. Our school is unique from the public school settings, as we are able to focus on the specific needs of each individual child, whether academic, life skills, or behavioral. We are also unique in that we offer year-round school and extremely low student to teacher ratio (largest class 6:2), both of which are proven methods to help our children work toward their highest level of learning.

At Growing Together we believe that all students affected by autism and other developmental disabilities can reach their fullest potential through an education based in structure, fun engagement with peers, and loving teachers and staff supporting and encouraging them daily. Cesery Park is located in Arlington’s Lake Lucina neighborhood, at the corner of Cesery Boulevard and Columbine Street. The park and boulevard are named for William R. Cesery (1912-1996), a pioneer developer of Arlington who started the trend of building larger apartment complexes in Jacksonville. About 1950, he purchased forty acres for his first subdivision, which took its name from a large water hole that he called Lake Lucina. General Trading Company, whose principals, D.W. and F.W. Girls on the Run is a transformational physical activity based positive youth development program for girls in 3rd-8th grade. Our Mission: We help at-risk students earn a standard high school diploma and prepare for post-secondary success.

We offer an instructional calendar beyond the traditional 180 days to give students more opportunity to continue working toward meeting graduation goals. Attendance throughout the school’s instructional calendar is mandatory and necessary for success. Please see the published school calendar.
Program Offered:

Lone Star is a tuition-free public high school that operates two sessions per day – morning and afternoon. Students have the opportunity to enroll in the four-hour session that best fits their personal schedule so they have the flexibility to earn a quality education while working, caring for family, or managing other commitments.

Once enrolled, the school works with the student to create a personalized academic plan to graduate, and immediately helps the student to start earning credits as his/her own pace. Courses are computer-based to help the student to focus and track progress, and certified teachers provide individualized support.

The school serves ages 16 to 21. Graduation ceremonies are held in June.

There is no cost to attend. All programs are free.

Inspired by our travels to Asia and memories of growing up, we all craved the unapologetic flavors of true Asian food—dumplings with bounce, spicy curries, crisp pork belly, and the list goes on. Founder, Gwynne Mims, began her career in beauty nearly a decade ago in New York City at the prestigious Eva Scrivo Salon. After building a diverse network of contacts and an enviable clientele list in Manhattan, she took on the Global Lead Stylist and on-air personality role for Ojon Haircare, an Estee Lauder company. Ever the student of her craft, Gwynne embraces current techniques and trends and has studied extensively with Vidal Sassoon, Bumble and Bumble, Goldwell, Wella and L’Oreal Professional. She recently made the decision to bring her expertise back to her hometown, and fittingly chose to exercise her cutting edge techniques and skills via the eponymous Gwynne Mims Salon.
