In order to join the Pawsitive Reading program, children AND at least one parent/guardian must first attend a one-time Pawsitive Reading orientation. We offer several orientations each month. Upcoming orientation dates and sign-up links are below. Advance registration is required.
Please note: We are unable to offer Pawsitive Reading orientations in June and July due to JHS Summer Camp.
Orientations will take place in either the JHS Education Center or Conference Room (both are located upstairs, above the Adoption Center). Our address is 8464 Beach Blvd. Please arrive on time. The orientation will be around 40 minutes in length.
After attending an orientation, children and an adult chaperone may come to JHS to read to the animals anytime our Adoption Center is open (12pm-7pm on weekdays, 10am-5pm on weekends). Participants must sign in and out at the front desk when visiting JHS to read.
To ensure that our animals benefit from the program, we ask that readers spend at least 30 minutes reading – there is no maximum time limit.
Children may read to either dogs or cats and may bring their reading materials or borrow books from our Pawsitive Reading library.
Participants will receive a free book courtesy of The Jim Moran Foundation while supplies are available.

Inspired by our travels to Asia and memories of growing up, we all craved the unapologetic flavors of true Asian food—dumplings with bounce, spicy curries, crisp pork belly, and the list goes on. When in Asia, we knew the best dishes were on the streets from hawker stalls. At home, we turned to parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles to get a fix from generations-old comfort food recipes. We sought out restaurants in hopes of finding a gem, only to be disappointed 9 times out of 10.
Finally, it hit us—we had to redefine “eating Asian” in the states. From day one, the food was at the core of Hawkers Asian Street Fare—generations of Asian street food recipes have been passed down, some of which are still served on the streets of Asia. But there had to be more. We wanted to build a restaurant that would tell the story of the hawker experience in a subtle and design-conscious way. We wanted great drinks to pair with great food. Most importantly, we wanted to create a place that was high-energy, but approachable in a t-shirt or a sports coat.

The mission of The Jericho School (non profit 501(c) 3 corporation) is to provide comprehensive, individualized science-based education not otherwise available in our community. We believe those children with autism and other developmental delays deserve the opportunity to reach their full potential. The school’s curriculum provides effective treatment and education programs to children and their families based on Applied Behavior Analysis and Verbal Behavior.
The Community Outreach Program allows The Jericho School to provide parents and other community members access to training and education training free of charge. The program increases parents’ and service providers’ knowledge, skills and abilities for working with children with autism; teaching specific skills, reducing inappropriate behaviors and developing language skills.
The Program includes a free 2-Day Workshop to provide parents and caregivers training in the best practices in working with children with autism. Education is provided on the basic principles of Applied Behavior Analysis and how to use Verbal Behavior in Teaching Language to Children with Autism and other Developmental Disabilities.
A free consultation and assessment is also provided for the parents participating in the Community Outreach Program to provide more individualized guidance and assistance in selecting appropriate goals for their child’s educational program.

Born and raised in a small town in Northern Italy between the Como lake and Milan Diana lived there for most of her life. Her parents and her region helped her appreciate food ant the food culture, therefore her roots. Food has always been an important part of her life, even more now that she lives far away from home.
After having moved in her 30s to Switzerland then to England, the Netherlands and to the States, she traveled back and forth during summer and Christmas and this allowed her to maintain her childhood friendships and the long life relationships.
Certified English as a Foreign Language teacher, she has a true passion for teaching. Having lived in five different countries and speaking five foreign languages has allowed her to embrace different cultures incorporating them in my cooking classes.
Today, she teaches cooking all around Jacksonville: private houses, clubhouses, retail shops and private venues. Collaborates with several chefs, restaurants and farms. She also teaches Italian and English as a foreign language online and is planning to a culinary tour to Italy in May 2021. She recently started virtual cooking classes to respond to the recent necessity of social distancing. She will be back to teaching in person end of summer.
She is also a proud member of BNI, Ponte Vedra Women’s Club, Women’s Food Alliance, Network of Women, First Coast Women’s Collaborative and First Coast Business Alliance, where she shares her knowledge and enriches herself.

Cesery Park is located in Arlington’s Lake Lucina neighborhood, at the corner of Cesery Boulevard and Columbine Street. The park and boulevard are named for William R. Cesery (1912-1996), a pioneer developer of Arlington who started the trend of building larger apartment complexes in Jacksonville. About 1950, he purchased forty acres for his first subdivision, which took its name from a large water hole that he called Lake Lucina. General Trading Company, whose principals, D.W. and F.W. Tredinick, founded the Jax Liquor Store chain, donated the land for the park to Duval County in 1961. The County created a tot lot for children, and the City took over its operation following consolidation in 1968. A wooden pavilion and picnic tables were added to the park in 1996.

Captain Alvarez is a fourth-generation Jacksonville local who has grown up fishing these waters. His love for the ocean started at a very young age, not only fishing but also surfing our beaches. You will be fishing on a 2016 Pathfinder 24-foot center console, powered by a Yamaha 300 horsepower outboard. We fish exclusively with Penn reels, most of which are paired on Ugly Stik rods. Spider Wire Ultra Cast braided line makes long-casting easier, and pulling those tough redfish out of the rocks. Most of the fishing is live bait, although Sebile Plugs and Berkley Gulp are always on the boat for that early morning trout bite or jigging the St. Johns River for flounder.

The Florida Surfing Association was created in 2003 as an organized body for surfing within the United States and specifically the State of Florida. Our mission is to further the sport of surfing to our members, their families and throughout the State of Florida.
General surf lessons will teach the basics of surfing from beginner to advanced. We will have one instructor per student. We also recommend a flexible “floating” schedule to maximize your investment as the surf conditions often have a direct impact on the success of the lesson. Usually we can predict the surf and coordinate with the right tide and sand bar about 1-3 days in advance.
Ages 4 years – 4th grade.
Registration in January for Spring season (March – May) and June/July for Fall season (Aug – Oct).
One practice and one game per week during the week. Practices and games held at San Pablo Elementary fields.

Ultimate Beaches Guide: We find ourselves at Jacksonville Beach events all season long. It is a vibrant, bustling beach. There are so many fun festivals, concerts, and movie nights at the amphitheater. If you are heading out to enjoy the sand and waves on Jacksonville Beach, you will find ample parking across the beach; but be careful that you do not park in a restricted area. If you think your little one might need to get off the beach and stroll away from the sand for a time, this a terrific beach for you. There is a park on 9th Avenue North, Tall Pines Park, that can provide a nice change of pace. There are also easy-to-access public restrooms on 3rd Avenue North, 2nd Avenue North, and 5th Avenue North. It may sound crazy but my favorite eatery to frequent on my Jacksonville Beach days is a grocery store, Native Sun. This place makes delicious juices and has lots of yummy ready eat foods that are perfect to take with you. Dr. Andrea Cordero has been working with us for 9 years. She graduated from the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Phoenix and then went on to medical school at California Northstate University. She has worked at completed her residency at Cleveland Clinic. Dr. Cordero is also a mother to three children and a wife to a well-known local pediatrician.
Dr. Shelly Palmore has joined us in 2002 working part-time. She has received her medical degree at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. Shelly also writes an editorial column for the Clinical Advisor. She recently celebrated her 30th wedding anniversary to Dr. Patrick Palmore (a psychologist) and has two children.

Jax Beach Surf Shop offers both private and group surf lessons along with stand up paddle boarding lessons. For adults and children ages 7 and up (parents must stay with children under 13 years of age). Lessons last 1 hour, 15 minutes and include the use of a soft surf board during the lesson and for the rest of the day, tutorial on how to surf, surfing safety, marine life awareness, rip current awareness, and surfing.
