Mezza Restaurant and Bar is a neighborhood restaurant located in the Beaches Town Center in Neptune Beach. Jacksonville Children’s Chorus (Grades 2-12) – Auditioning Now for the Fall Semester of the 2020-21 Season!

JCC offers an exciting and unique music experience for children who have a passion for singing. The Jacksonville Children’s Chorus is beginning its new season on September 15th, 2020. Please encourage your aspiring singers to audition with us for the upcoming season if they are interested in enhancing their music education and opportunities.

While prior musical training is not necessary to participate, an audition is required for singers in grades 2-12. To ensure that we are keeping your health and safety our top priority, auditions can be scheduled virtually or in-person with social distancing and a mask required. There is no fee to audition. Need-based scholarships are available.

Auditions are quick and simple. There is no need to have a prepared audition piece.

The mission of The Jericho School (non profit 501(c) 3 corporation) is to provide comprehensive, individualized science-based education not otherwise available in our community. We believe those children with autism and other developmental delays deserve the opportunity to reach their full potential. The school’s curriculum provides effective treatment and education programs to children and their families based on Applied Behavior Analysis and Verbal Behavior.

The Community Outreach Program allows The Jericho School to provide parents and other community members access to training and education training free of charge. The program increases parents’ and service providers’ knowledge, skills and abilities for working with children with autism; teaching specific skills, reducing inappropriate behaviors and developing language skills.

The Program includes a free 2-Day Workshop to provide parents and caregivers training in the best practices in working with children with autism. Education is provided on the basic principles of Applied Behavior Analysis and how to use Verbal Behavior in Teaching Language to Children with Autism and other Developmental Disabilities.

A free consultation and assessment is also provided for the parents participating in the Community Outreach Program to provide more individualized guidance and assistance in selecting appropriate goals for their child’s educational program.

The health care team at UF Health Family Medicine and Pediatrics – Soutel Plaza provides services for the whole family. They offer annual checkups, online virtual visits, sports physicals and well-baby visits.

In April 2000, Bob Hayes Sports Complex became a reality when the City purchased an adjacent parcel to Lonnie Miller Regional Park from the Diocese of St. Augustine for $175,000 (OR 9610 pg. 1347), subject to an easement for underground utilities, access, and other terms (OR 7330 pg. 1398).As of December 2004, funding has been approved for the $1.4 million project, which will be put out for bids as soon as the latest revision of the plans is completed. To be known as the Bob Hayes Soccer Complex (or possibly Sports Complex), the facility will include several youth soccer fields, a football field, a pavilion/concession building that will also contain restrooms and storage space, playground and picnic equipment, bleachers, sidewalks, an asphalt trail, parking, a retention pond, irrigation, sewer/drainage facilities, and landscaping.

Private Full Time Islamic School. Al-Furqan Academy was established in August of 1997 by some of the same founding members of ICNEF (Islamic Center of Northeast Florida). They saw the immense need for an Islamic Elementary School in the city of Jacksonville, and they acted upon it. First, written plans were formulated, classrooms were established within the Masjid, staff was recruited and numerous other plans and procedures developed. The result is that today, we are a school of approximately 60 students ranging in ages from 3 years up to the fifth grade. This park is named after A. Philip Randolph who grew up in Jacksonville and became one of the most important figures of the Civil Rights Movement during the 1950s and 1960s. A life-size bronze statue of Olympic Gold Medallist and Dallas Cowboy star, Bob Hayes, was added to the park in November 2002. Hayes grew up in Jacksonville, less than a mile from the park. Early Learning Center strives to provide the highest standards of educational excellence within a Christ-centered preschool environment. Beach ELC provides both part-time and full-day options for children 18 months through VPK, 4 years of age.

The most important period of learning for a child is from birth to the age of six. Beach ELC uses the WEE Learn curriculum as a guide to help each child reach his or her full potential spiritually, socially, physically, emotionally, and academically. Our program is developmentally conscious and provides a place where children can learn and grow in a positive, Christian environment. TnT is a daily after-school program. TnT (Tennis-n-Tutoring) operates from 3pm-6pm, Monday-Friday in the MaliVai Washington Youth Center. TnT contains 3 sessions daily which provide academic assistance, tennis/fitness activities and life skills classes. Each child also receives a nutritious snack daily. The program offers: Academic Support through homework assistance and mentors; Tennis and Fitness classes focusing on nutrition, introduction to the sport of tennis and practice for competitive play; Life Skills & Enrichment classes which are age appropriate and range from basic hygiene to pregnancy prevention. All students participate in community service activities and have the opportunity to go on enrichment field trips based on reaching pre-determined goals.

MWYF promotes academic achievement and positive life skills in Jacksonville youth through the game of tennis. Academic support, character development classes and community service opportunities are also provided, in addition to tennis. By correlating success on the court with success in life, we foster leadership, sportsmanship, self-esteem, confidence, discipline, accountability and the value of hard work, teamwork and individual effort.

Confederate Park playground in Jacksonville’s Historic Springfield area has unique, whimsical equipment that spurs the imagination. Surrounded by beauty and history the park also includes a serene fountain setting, statues, and a fenced 2.87-acre dog park.

The playground at J.P. Small Park was renamed in June 2007 to honor Eugene M. GLover. Mr. Glover, who passed away in 2006, was affectionately known by friends, colleagues and the young people he worked with as the “Gentle Giant.” He spent 42 years working in a variety of capacities for the PREC Department; most notably at J.P. Small Park, which was named for his high school coach and mentor. A sign has been erected in the park officially naming the playground for the former Stanton High School and Florida A&M University athlete and brother of the former sheriff, Nat Glover.

Oakland Park is located in the Oakland section of downtown Jacksonville, and has been City property since the 1880’s. The residential community of Oakland emerged during the 1870’s and was oriented toward working-class families. West of the park lies the Old City Cemetery established in 1852, and along the park’s northern boundary, St. Joseph’s Cemetery, which is a part of the Old City Cemetery. The park has historical significance as the first playground established by the City of Jacksonville for African-American children. The park opened on July 4, 1918, through the efforts of noted Jacksonville humanitarian, Eartha M.M. White (1876-1974), and for ten years was under the direction of pioneer recreational leader Florida C. Dwight (1886-1977).

Confederate Playground is located near downtown, in the Springfield section of north Jacksonville. First named Dignan Park, for a chairman of the Board of Public Works, it opened in 1907 and contained the City’s first supervised playground. The United Confederate Veterans chose Jacksonville as the site for their twenty-fourth annual reunion in 1914, which was attended by an estimated 48,000 former Confederate soldiers. Many of the activities took place in the park, and five months later it was renamed, Confederate Park. Troops, many from the nearby Armory, used the playground portion of the park for drill grounds and tent/hut encampments during both World Wars. The playground was permanently established as a separate facility from Confederate Park in the 1950’s, and today provides open space and recreational facilities for residents of the Springfield and downtown communities.
