Pura Bean Coffee was founded on the principal of enjoying coffee and life. It all began after several excursions to Costa Rica where we fell in love with the local coffee and lifestyle. As raving fans we decided it would be fun to make our own coffee back home in Jacksonville, FL. Using our daughter’s popcorn popper we began learning the craft of roasting and creating blends of coffee for friends and family. Our obsession grew to roasting coffee for real in the back of our own shop, where we serve up specialty blends from all over the world and deliver to local retailers in our 1979 Orange VW Bus.

Inspired by our travels to Asia and memories of growing up, we all craved the unapologetic flavors of true Asian food—dumplings with bounce, spicy curries, crisp pork belly, and the list goes on. When in Asia, we knew the best dishes were on the streets from hawker stalls. At home, we turned to parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles to get a fix from generations-old comfort food recipes. We sought out restaurants in hopes of finding a gem, only to be disappointed 9 times out of 10.

Finally, it hit us—we had to redefine “eating Asian” in the states. From day one, the food was at the core of Hawkers Asian Street Fare—generations of Asian street food recipes have been passed down, some of which are still served on the streets of Asia. But there had to be more. We wanted to build a restaurant that would tell the story of the hawker experience in a subtle and design-conscious way. We wanted great drinks to pair with great food. Most importantly, we wanted to create a place that was high-energy, but approachable in a t-shirt or a sports coat.

Wilma’s Little People’s School was founded in 1973 by Dr. Kay Johnson in order to give students in Jacksonville University’s early childhood courses an opportunity to work with young children. Our Jacksonville Childcare And Preschool Learning Center Programs Are The Best
Located in Jacksonville’s Southside, our childcare programs incorporate creative play, song and dance, planned activities, arts and crafts, and daily outside play activities. We provide childcare for children ages six weeks through five years old.

Our Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten (VPK) program is available to children age four with a birthday on-or-before September 1st of each school year. Our Jacksonville Summer VPK program is for children age 4 with a birthday after September 1st. Children ages five and seven love our Summer Camp.

After attending an orientation, children and an adult chaperone may come to JHS to read to the animals anytime our Adoption Center is open (12pm-7pm on weekdays, 10am-5pm on weekends). Participants must sign in and out at the front desk when visiting JHS to read.

To ensure that our animals benefit from the program, we ask that readers spend at least 30 minutes reading – there is no maximum time limit.

Children may read to either dogs or cats and may bring their reading materials or borrow books from our Pawsitive Reading library.

Participants will receive a free book courtesy of The Jim Moran Foundation while supplies are available.

We now offer vegan doughnuts on Friday until sell out. Why only on Fridays you ask? The staff at J. Allen Axson Montessori Elementary is committed to providing a safe, caring environment with diversified instruction that promotes success for all students. We provide an internationally recognized Montessori educational program for children from the age of three through the fifth grade.

Each teacher is specially trained in the Montessori method in order to assist children in their development. In addition to achieving broad intellectual standards, the students of J. Allen Axson Montessori School are invited to pursue their own intellectual interests in-depth.

The special Montessori materials in each classroom allow children to work independently. Self-motivation and responsible independence are the cornerstones of the Montessori method.

Sunrise Surf Shop – All your Surfing and Skating needs since’76
Sunrise Surf Shop has been supporting Northeast Florida’s surf scene since 1975. Owned and operated by surfers Sunrise is an avid sponsor of up-and-coming talents, Sunrise has yet to lose sight of what’s most important… the local surf community. This philosophy is what’s kept Sunrise Surf Shop labeled as Northeast Florida’s favorite surf shop.

At Sunrise Surf Shop we offer private and small group lessons for surfers at any skill level. All of our instructors are experienced surfers and are licensed and insured. Lessons can be scheduled by calling the shop at 904.241.0822 and speaking with someone in the boardroom. Lessons are $60 dollars an hour or $100 dollars for two hours including the board.
