The Swim Lesson Club indoor heated pool is located in the Mandarin area of Jacksonville. Our pool is heated 92 degrees and perfectly designed for teaching all ages of swimming instruction.

We utilize endless swimming technology allowing us to easily correct technique and achieve excellent swimming conditioning for our developing swimmers. We offer videographer and stroke analysis that is very difficult to accomplish in a normal lap swimming pool. We partner with Swim Angelfish and utilize a special methodology ideal for children with water anxiety, sensory sensitivity, autism, or in need of adapted swimming instruction.

We partner with US Masters Swimming to provide top-notch swim coaching for our developing and advanced swimmers. Our adult students benefit from our partnership with US Masters Swimming and the Emperor Penguin adult learn to swim program/ self-teaching method.

Instructors are certified Lifeguards and often Red Cross WSI certified. We are not satisfied for our students to stagnate in lessons, our team will collaborate to adjust strategies for each student to achieve results in a fun way. At Little Seals Swim School, we offer one-on-one survival swim lessons to children as young as 8 months old. Babies/infants are taught to roll over and float on their backs. Once they reach a year old (or have been walking for about 6 weeks), they are taught to swim with their face in the water. The children are then taught to sequence the swimming with the floating in order to rest and breathe while swimming and playing in the water. They repeat the swim-float-swim sequence until they reach the steps or side. Once children are fully skilled, they have the opportunity to practice their skills fully clothed for “Silly Swim” lessons. Once lessons are completed, students are encouraged to maintain their skills by attending twice-monthly maintenance lessons (or semi-annual refresher lessons). Introduction to stroke lessons are, also, available for children that are developmentally ready (usually beginning between 4 and 6 years of age). Instructors are trained to present stroke lessons in a fun way that is relatable to young children.

Crowning Midwifery is operated by Midwife Kimberley, a Florida Licensed Midwife who provides holistic midwifery services in Jacksonville, and it’s surrounding areas. Midwife Kimberley is also a black midwife that provides placenta encapsulation and yoni steaming options alongside your care. The Jacksonville Fire Museum serves as an educational link between past and present. Through the years, thousands of visitors have toured the museum, learning about the rich history of the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department.

At the Jacksonville Fire Museum, you will see thousands of items detailing the history of the fire service not only in Jacksonville, but the entire state of Florida. Exhibits include photos from the Great Fire of 1901, a fully-restored 1902 American LaFrance horse-drawn fire engine, and a working 1926 American LaFrance fire engine.

If your kids love fire trucks and firemen then this museum is worth a visit. Located in Metropolitan Park this small museum offers visitors lots of information about the history of fire service in Jacksonville and in Florida.

“WHO WE ARE” St Johns Taekwondo is a certified Olympic Taekwondo Training Center. Club #7283 with USA Taekwondo the governing body for the Olympic Taekwondo games in the United States under the (WTF) World Taekwondo Federation. We’re also a registered school and in good standing with the Kukkiwon, the World Taekwondo Headquarters in Seoul, Korea. Our Taekwondo program focuses on quality over quantity.

“WHAT WE DO” St Johns Taekwondo is passionate about seeing students grow through martial arts training. Our program is a South Korean based Taekwondo system used by the South Korean Military and the South Korean Presidential Body Guards. Taekwondo is known for devastating kicks but make no mistake it has many weapons in its arsenal. The hand techniques are practiced and conditioned by breaking objects such as boards, roof tiles and cement blocks. All the techniques from kicks, strikes, down to blocks were developed to maximize damage with every blow. We also practice Taegeuk “Poomse” meaning forms or patterns. These are pre-arranged fight sequences that are practiced to develop hand-eye coordination, timing, balance, power, speed, discipline and overall body structure.

“WHY WE DO IT” St Johns Taekwondo is headed up by Master Joe Gaines a 20 year veteran of the martial arts community. Master Gaines is currently a 4th Dan Kukkiwon Black Belt and has an Associate Level Coaches certification through USA Taekwondo. Master Gaines has taught thousands of people throughout his career and has certified over 70 Black Belts. Some of Master Gaines’ past success stories have been professionals such as Doctors, Lawyers, Judges, Police, Swat, Fire, EMT, Nurses, Army Rangers, Teachers, Moms, Dads, and Kids! Master Gaines’ life long dream is to make the world a better place one Black Belt at a time.

Private Full Time Islamic School. Al-Furqan Academy was established in August of 1997 by some of the same founding members of ICNEF (Islamic Center of Northeast Florida). They saw the immense need for an Islamic Elementary School in the city of Jacksonville, and they acted upon it. First, written plans were formulated, classrooms were established within the Masjid, staff was recruited and numerous other plans and procedures developed. The Ortega Hills Playground is located in the Ortega Hills area across from the Jacksonville Naval Air Station. The name Ortega derives from Joseph de Ortega, a judge during the second Spanish occupation of Florida from 1783-1821. In 1804, when John McIntosh bought the plantation that is present-day Ortega, he named it for the judge who facilitated his purchase of the property. Development of Ortega Hills began in 1954, and Devco Inc. donated the land for the park to Duval County in 1959. In recent years the local Community Association, led by its tireless founder Charles Zilla, lobbied for a new park that resulted in a major renovation in 2001. Park usage then increased dramatically, as people rushed to use the new facilities, which included landscaping and a walking/jogging trail around the perimeter.

DanceMania is now offering an after school dance and performing arts program with bus transportation from local designated schools. Classes will be offered in Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Hip-Hop, Acrobatics, Gymnastics, Musical Theatre, Acting, and more for 1st through 5th graders at beginning to intermediate levels. Students will get a unique opportunity to experience different styles of dance, theatre, and acting every day of the week in our program from 3 – 6 pm, and is available 3 or 5 days per week.

Preschool: Ballet/Tap combination with acrobatics. These classes are available Monday-Thursday 2:45-3:45 p.m. (Please note on the contract if you prefer a certain day.) This year we are also offering a Monday morning class from 9:00-10:00 a.m.

Kindergarten: Ballet/Tap combination with acrobatics.

First through 4th grades may sign up for Ballet, Jazz, Tap, and Acrobatics. Remember, each class is separate with their own recital dance and costume. For example; if your child takes all 4 disciplines they will have 4 costumes. First grade does not have a recital dance for acrobatics, therefore would not have a costume for that class.

Fifth through 12th grades may sign up for Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Pointe, and Acrobatics. Pointe class must be with approval. Ballet and Pointe are two separate classes. You must take Ballet in order to take Pointe. The recital dance is learned during the Ballet Technique class when both Pointe and Ballet students are present.

Open Ballet Class: This is an additional dance class available for those students already enrolled in ballet. This is a class focused on ballet technique, stretching, and conditioning. It will be taught on an advanced level. It is open to anyone currently in Junior, Advanced 1 or Advanced 2 classes.

Extra Classes: If you wish to take additional classes please indicate on your registration form by putting the number of classes next to each discipline. (For example; Ballet – 2.) Any serious student should be taking a minimum of 2 Ballet classes per week beginning in 5th grade. Younger students may also take additional classes with approval.

Student Assistants: Students 7th grade and older are eligible to assist with classes. A tuition discount will be offered for assisting. You must assist for the entire year in order to receive a discount. Priority is given to older dancers. Please note on your registration the day and times you are available

Classes are leveled as students mature. Please respect your teacher’s placement. If changes need to be made, they will be adjusted after classes begin. We realize students dancing in summer programs may need to be re-evaluated in the Fall

While prior musical training is not necessary to participate, an audition is required for singers in grades 2-12. Ringhaver Park is located in southwest Jacksonville, extending south from 118th Street, along the western border of the Ortega River. The City acquired the land comprising the park in 1971, 1972, 1996, and 2000. The park is named for Lambert C. Ringhaver (1910-1976), whose family made a memorial donation for the initial park development, which has grown from 36 acres in 1977 to 576 acres in 2003. Program Offered:

Lone Star is a tuition-free public high school that operates two sessions per day – morning and afternoon. Students have the opportunity to enroll in the four-hour session that best fits their personal schedule so they have the flexibility to earn a quality education while working, caring for family, or managing other commitments.

Once enrolled, the school works with the student to create a personalized academic plan to graduate, and immediately helps the student to start earning credits as his/her own pace. Courses are computer-based to help the student to focus and track progress, and certified teachers provide individualized support.

The school serves ages 16 to 21. Graduation ceremonies are held in June.

Inspired by our travels to Asia and memories of growing up, we all craved the unapologetic flavors of true Asian food—dumplings with bounce, spicy curries, crisp pork belly, and the list goes on. When in Asia, we knew the best dishes were on the streets from hawker stalls. At home, we turned to parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles to get a fix from generations-old comfort food recipes. We sought out restaurants in hopes of finding a gem, only to be disappointed 9 times out of 10.

Finally, it hit us—we had to redefine “eating Asian” in the states. From day one, the food was at the core of Hawkers Asian Street Fare—generations of Asian street food recipes have been passed down, some of which are still served on the streets of Asia. But there had to be more. We wanted to build a restaurant that would tell the story of the hawker experience in a subtle and design-conscious way. We wanted great drinks to pair with great food. Most importantly, we wanted to create a place that was high-energy, but approachable in a t-shirt or a sports coat.

The Duval County Library offers Traveling Tales Kits available for check out from the Main Library in downtown Jacksonville for free. Children are not born with clear vision, but with visual potential. Visual development takes place during the first several years of life. Just like learning a language, children are also learning to see the world around them.
