Angelina Danese Park is located in south Jacksonville, at the intersection of Danese Court and St. Augustine Road. The site comprised part of the Philips community that was established in the last half of the 1800’s. Alexander and Angelina Danese, who arrived in America as immigrants from Italy in 1885, had twelve children following their marriage in 1898. The couple established their home on the park property in 1929, and after their deaths the children wanted to honor their parents’ memory. Their son Emanuel Danese, and his wife Mary Margaret, later donated the property to the city in 1973 for use as a passive public park – in honor of his parents and with the stipulation that it be named for his mother. But the site remained a vacant tract until the city, with the aid of City Councilmen Matt Carlucci and Reggie Fullwood, developed the property as a neighborhood park, which opened in March 2003.

This park is named after A. Philip Randolph who grew up in Jacksonville and became one of the most important figures of the Civil Rights Movement during the 1950s and 1960s. Oceanside Rotary Skate Park is located at 800 Seminole Road in Jack Russell Park. Anyone under 17 years of age is required to have a Waiver Consent Form signed by a parent or guardian and notarized before a sticker decal is issued for admission to the skate park.

Skate park hours are 8 am to 10 pm. During inclement weather, rain or the bowl is wet, the skate park will be closed.

Oakland Park is located in the Oakland section of downtown Jacksonville, and has been City property since the 1880’s. The residential community of Oakland emerged during the 1870’s and was oriented toward working-class families. West of the park lies the Old City Cemetery established in 1852, and along the park’s northern boundary, St. Joseph’s Cemetery, which is a part of the Old City Cemetery. The park has historical significance as the first playground established by the City of Jacksonville for African-American children. The park opened on July 4, 1918, through the efforts of noted Jacksonville humanitarian, Eartha M.M. White (1876-1974), and for ten years was under the direction of pioneer recreational leader Florida C. Dwight (1886-1977).

Theatre Jacksonville’s newest outreach educational program is Theatre for Babies! The 90-minute event includes the show, Everything Is A Circle, Theatre Jacksonville’s original play.

Infants 3 to 12 months with parents or caregivers will be asked to remove their shoes and sit on the floor. Babies make noise, we know that. Their engagement is welcome in all ways. Mezza Restaurant and Bar is a neighborhood restaurant located in the Beaches Town Center in Neptune Beach. This is often the first beach we visit, primarily because of proximity to the Beaches Town Center. I told you I loved this place. The local, coastal vibe just makes me happy. When you are ready to put your toes in the sand, it is fairly easy to find public access parking. We seldom, if ever, pack a lunch when we go to Neptune Beach because you are just a short stroll to some pretty tasty restaurants. Our favorite stops on Neptune Beach days are MShack when we are in the mood for simple burger and fries, Poe’s Tavern, and, of course, Dreamette. Yes, I said Dreamette. There is a new location just behind the Starbucks. From Neptune Beach, you can get to Jarboe or Bull Park quickly by car or bike.

Champions Rainbow Rec Gymnastics Program is structured to follow USA Gymnastics guidelines and is designed to provide each child with top quality learning experience in a safe and loving environment. We offer levels for the first timer all the way up to the most advanced gymnast. Classes are offered for boys ages 3-7 and girls ages 3-14. Our Rainbow Rec program concentrates on defined skills mastery and student evaluations. Each skill level of this program coincides with a color in the rainbow. Once a gymnast successfully completes all skills in a level, they will graduate to the next color level of the program and commence learning more advanced skills.

Confederate Playground is located near downtown, in the Springfield section of north Jacksonville. First named Dignan Park, for a chairman of the Board of Public Works, it opened in 1907 and contained the City’s first supervised playground. The United Confederate Veterans chose Jacksonville as the site for their twenty-fourth annual reunion in 1914, which was attended by an estimated 48,000 former Confederate soldiers. Many of the activities took place in the park, and five months later it was renamed, Confederate Park. Troops, many from the nearby Armory, used the playground portion of the park for drill grounds and tent/hut encampments during both World Wars. The playground was permanently established as a separate facility from Confederate Park in the 1950’s, and today provides open space and recreational facilities for residents of the Springfield and downtown communities.
