I am delighted to introduce myself as a retired ER Nurse with a passion for ensuring the safety and well-being of families. In my years of experience, I’ve witnessed firsthand the importance of CPR, AED, and First Aid training, especially when it comes to our little ones. That’s why I’m passionate about offering Infant, Child, and Adult CPR classes, with a special focus on addressing choking emergencies.

How many times have we heard, “I didn’t know how”? It’s a phrase that echoes in emergency rooms across the country, and I am determined to change that narrative. Every family deserves to feel confident and prepared in the face of an emergency.

Convenience is key for busy moms, which is why I bring the training directly to your group. Whether it’s a Mommy and Me gathering, a playgroup, or any other community event, I’ll be there to equip you with life-saving skills in a comfortable and familiar setting.

The Jacksonville Humane Society provides care, comfort and compassion to animals in need while engaging the hearts, hands and minds of our community to bring about an end to the killing of abandoned and orphaned shelter animals.

In order to join the Pawsitive Reading program, children AND at least one parent/guardian must first attend a one-time Pawsitive Reading orientation. We offer several orientations each month. Upcoming orientation dates and sign-up links are below. Advance registration is required.

Please note: We are unable to offer Pawsitive Reading orientations in June and July due to JHS Summer Camp.

Orientations will take place in either the JHS Education Center or Conference Room (both are located upstairs, above the Adoption Center). Our address is 8464 Beach Blvd. Please arrive on time. The orientation will be around 40 minutes in length.

After attending an orientation, children and an adult chaperone may come to JHS to read to the animals anytime our Adoption Center is open (12pm-7pm on weekdays, 10am-5pm on weekends). Participants must sign in and out at the front desk when visiting JHS to read.

To ensure that our animals benefit from the program, we ask that readers spend at least 30 minutes reading – there is no maximum time limit.

Children may read to either dogs or cats and may bring their reading materials or borrow books from our Pawsitive Reading library.

Participants will receive a free book courtesy of The Jim Moran Foundation while supplies are available.

In April 2000, Bob Hayes Sports Complex became a reality when the City purchased an adjacent parcel to Lonnie Miller Regional Park from the Diocese of St. Augustine for $175,000 (OR 9610 pg. 1347), subject to an easement for underground utilities, access, and other terms (OR 7330 pg. 1398).As of December 2004, funding has been approved for the $1.4 million project, which will be put out for bids as soon as the latest revision of the plans is completed. To be known as the Bob Hayes Soccer Complex (or possibly Sports Complex), the facility will include several youth soccer fields, a football field, a pavilion/concession building that will also contain restrooms and storage space, playground and picnic equipment, bleachers, sidewalks, an asphalt trail, parking, a retention pond, irrigation, sewer/drainage facilities, and landscaping.

Willowbranch Park is located in the Riverside area, along the course of Willowbranch Creek. Former City Councilman John J. Griffin led the drive to create the park, and development began in 1916. Additional acreage was acquired southeast of Park Street between 1921 and 1925. Dr. Harold Hume donated 1700 azalea bushes around 1924 to beautify a portion of the grounds, while the Willowbranch Library opened at the park in 1930; and the creek was straightened and bulkheaded in 1934. Eventually four other small City parks/gardens were created from the park property – one south and one north of St. Johns Avenue and two along Park Street (in the 1950’s). Since its creation in 1974, Riverside Avondale Preservation (RAP) has worked to preserve and improve the park, along with the Willowbranch Park Improvement Committee that formed in 1999. Through the years it has remained one of the City’s most picturesque parks. At the instigation of Councilman Jim Overton in 2002, a bronze memorial plaque honoring Patricia Austin, the deceased wife of former mayor Ed Austin, was installed at the park in 2004. An immense live oak tree canopies two benches provided for the relaxation of visitors.

Murray Hill is a tuition-free public high school that operates two sessions per day – morning and afternoon. Students have the opportunity to enroll in the session that best fits their personal schedule so they have the flexibility to earn a quality education while working, caring for family, or managing other commitments.

Once enrolled, the school works with the student to create a personalized academic plan to graduate, and immediately helps the student to start earning credits at his/her own pace. When filling out a magnet application, you must select only one of these tracks. If you apply for both your application may be rejected by the magnet office. Growing Together Behavioral Center is one of Jacksonville’s premier schools for children with autism and developmental disabilities. We pride ourselves on being a school where each child is treated as an individual, and educational plans are tailored to their personal needs.

For the 2018-2019 school year, we are excited to partner with 25 students with autism and other developmental disabilities, ages 3 through 15 years. For each child, we will offer a comprehensive educational and therapeutic program, specifically providing students with customized academic plans, while integrating proven, research-based behavioral strategies into every learning task. Our school is unique from the public school settings, as we are able to focus on the specific needs of each individual child, whether academic, life skills, or behavioral. We are also unique in that we offer year-round school and extremely low student to teacher ratio (largest class 6:2), both of which are proven methods to help our children work toward their highest level of learning.

At Growing Together we believe that all students affected by autism and other developmental disabilities can reach their fullest potential through an education based in structure, fun engagement with peers, and loving teachers and staff supporting and encouraging them daily. Each child’s individual strengths and challenges are continually assessed to direct the child’s teachers in selecting the best methodologies to target the child’s current needs. We believe that open communication between teachers, staff, and families is a must, and we have communication plans in place with each family to meet those needs.

Our mission is to provide QUALITY care, education and development for each child to reach their greatest potential – mentally, physically, socially and emotionally.

We are open Monday through Friday, 6:30 am until 6:30 pm. We offer full time care for ages, 6 weeks to 5 year old. We offer part time care for ages two and up. Part time care is a three day or two day program. We offer summer camp for ages 5 through 10.

We inspire girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running. Girls on the Run is a transformational physical activity based positive youth development program for girls in 3rd-8th grade. We teach life skills through dynamic, interactive lessons and running games. The program culminates with the girls being physically and emotionally prepared to complete a celebratory 5k running event. The goal of the program is to unleash confidence through accomplishment while establishing a lifetime appreciation of health and fitness.

Studio K Dance boasts a unique combination of truly talented AND caring educators that are dedicated to their art and their wonderful students! Ages 3 and up. Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Tumbling, Acro, Hip-Hop, and Preschool Combo.

Stroller Strong Moms Jacksonville was created to provide an opportunity for local moms to reach fitness/wellness goals with the aid of other moms. Through reaching these goals moms are empowered to be the best they can be for their little ones and their community. We have monthly moms night outs, playgroups, and daily fitness schedules that include a soothing yoga session in the park. We support one another fully and without judgment. Come and check us out! We have classes for two, three and four year olds. Children must be two, three, or four by September 1 to be enrolled in these classes. We also have a Mothers Morning Out class for toddler’s age one year old and walking. Our hours are 9:00 a.m.- 1:00 p.m. For added convenience we have early morning available from 8:00-9:00 a.m. and extended day from 1:00-3:00 p.m. Contact the Preschool office at (904) 733-2027 for an enrollment packet or additional information. Our mission at Brightstone Therapy is to provide the highest quality applied behavior analysis (ABA) services to our clients and their families. We provide support to individuals on the autism spectrum, and other developmental disabilities or behavioral challenges. At Brightstone, we have highly experienced Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs) who are trained to address deficits in communication, social skills, and behaviors that impede learning and growth. We believe in a highly collaborative approach between parents, teachers, and all caregivers in a child’s life.

Jim King Park has a playground, a picnic area, a fishing area and boat ramp. The ramp is used as headquarters for the Greater Jacksonville Kingfish Tournament, and is closed to the public during the tournament.

SeekingSitters is a babysitting referral service where we do all the work for our members. We can help with your full-time, part-time, one-time or even last minute childcare needs. Our Certified Sitters can also help with small or large group events for special occasions like parties and weddings.

All Certified Sitters have extensive experience and have been thoroughly background screened by a private investigator. Only the most qualified are accepted into the SeekingSitters Team and SeekingSitters continually gathers and reviews member feedback in order to continue to refer the most qualified Certified Sitters.
