The Story Behind European Leather Gallery

Owners of European Leather Gallery, Nancy and Dennis Kulm, have been married for more than 25 years. Their discovery of Stressless® furniture was by pure accident. Shortly after moving to Florida in 2001, they saw a Stressless® chair in a restaurant and bought one. About three months later, Dennis, who had a history of terrible back problems realized his back didn’t hurt anymore. Without a doubt, this improvement in his back was a direct result of the Stressless® recliner.

Nancy and Dennis then decided to open their own Stressless® leather gallery. Their boutique is located on Beach Blvd just east of 9A and across from the Florida Community College South Campus. This Gallery is conveniently situated in Jacksonville’s South Side near the University of North Florida and St. Johns Town Center. European Leather Gallery is the largest Ekornes only dealer in the Southeastern United States.

Ringhaver Park is located in southwest Jacksonville, extending south from 118th Street, along the western border of the Ortega River. The City acquired the land comprising the park in 1971, 1972, 1996, and 2000. The park is named for Lambert C. Ringhaver (1910-1976), whose family made a memorial donation for the initial park development, which has grown from 36 acres in 1977 to 576 acres in 2003. Mr. Ringhaver was the founder of Ring Power Corp., and served as president of the Florida Forestry Association, as a trustee of Jacksonville University, and as president of the Greater Jacksonville Open for two terms. Private Full Time Islamic School. Al-Furqan Academy was established in August of 1997 by some of the same founding members of ICNEF (Islamic Center of Northeast Florida). The Community Outreach Program allows The Jericho School to provide parents and other community members access to training and education training free of charge. The program increases parents’ and service providers’ knowledge, skills and abilities for working with children with autism; teaching specific skills, reducing inappropriate behaviors and developing language skills.

The Program includes a free 2-Day Workshop to provide parents and caregivers training in the best practices in working with children with autism. Education is provided on the basic principles of Applied Behavior Analysis and how to use Verbal Behavior in Teaching Language to Children with Autism and other Developmental Disabilities.

A free consultation and assessment is also provided for the parents participating in the Community Outreach Program to provide more individualized guidance and assistance in selecting appropriate goals for their child’s educational program.

At Tutor Time, our approach to child care is based on our strongly held belief that all children are intelligent. Our Whole Child Education approach provides what we believe are the best ways to nurture and develop that intelligence: hands-on, active learning and opportunities for self-expression and peer relationships.

“WHAT WE DO” St Johns Taekwondo is passionate about seeing students grow through martial arts training. Our program is a South Korean based Taekwondo system used by the South Korean Military and the South Korean Presidential Body Guards. Taekwondo is known for devastating kicks but make no mistake it has many weapons in its arsenal. The hand techniques are practiced and conditioned by breaking objects such as boards, roof tiles and cement blocks. All the techniques from kicks, strikes, down to blocks were developed to maximize damage with every blow. We also practice Taegeuk “Poomse” meaning forms or patterns. These are pre-arranged fight sequences that are practiced to develop hand-eye coordination, timing, balance, power, speed, discipline and overall body structure.

“WHY WE DO IT” St Johns Taekwondo is headed up by Master Joe Gaines a 20 year veteran of the martial arts community. Master Gaines is currently a 4th Dan Kukkiwon Black Belt and has an Associate Level Coaches certification through USA Taekwondo. Master Gaines has taught thousands of people throughout his career and has certified over 70 Black Belts. Some of Master Gaines’ past success stories have been professionals such as Doctors, Lawyers, Judges, Police, Swat, Fire, EMT, Nurses, Army Rangers, Teachers, Moms, Dads, and Kids! Inspired by our travels to Asia and memories of growing up, we all craved the unapologetic flavors of true Asian food—dumplings with bounce, spicy curries, crisp pork belly, and the list goes on. When in Asia, we knew the best dishes were on the streets from hawker stalls. At home, we turned to parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles to get a fix from generations-old comfort food recipes. We sought out restaurants in hopes of finding a gem, only to be disappointed 9 times out of 10.

Finally, it hit us—we had to redefine “eating Asian” in the states. From day one, the food was at the core of Hawkers Asian Street Fare—generations of Asian street food recipes have been passed down, some of which are still served on the streets of Asia. But there had to be more. We wanted to build a restaurant that would tell the story of the hawker experience in a subtle and design-conscious way. We wanted great drinks to pair with great food. Most importantly, we wanted to create a place that was high-energy, but approachable in a t-shirt or a sports coat.

Oakland Park is located in the Oakland section of downtown Jacksonville, and has been City property since the 1880’s. The residential community of Oakland emerged during the 1870’s and was oriented toward working-class families. West of the park lies the Old City Cemetery established in 1852, and along the park’s northern boundary, St. Joseph’s Cemetery, which is a part of the Old City Cemetery. Fifth through 12th grades may sign up for Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Pointe, and Acrobatics. Pointe class must be with approval.  Ballet and Pointe are two separate classes.  You must take Ballet in order to take Pointe.  There is however one costume for the two classes.  The recital dance is learned during the Ballet Technique class when both Pointe and Ballet students are present.

A comprehensive pediatric eye exam can diagnose many different vision disorders. Some of the more common eye conditions in children are: Your child may be nearsighted (myopia), farsighted (hyperopia) or have astigmatism. It is important that children who need glasses, wear them full time when they are young to develop good vision in each eye and three-dimensional vision. Dr. Schnipper and Dr. Brown offer comprehensive Eye Exams for children of all ages.

During your child’s comprehensive eye exam, visual acuity will be tested. This test measures the smallest object each eye can see at a certain distance. Normally, each eye will be done individually by covering one eye at a time. It may be necessary to tape a patch over a child’s eye to keep him from peeking. There are two types of charts used when testing children’s visions.

The use of the Snellen chart is the most common way to test visual acuity. This chart letters and numbers that decrease in size. When taking the test, the distance between the patient and the chart is 20 feet. 20/20 vision is normal. If a person has 20/40 vision, they see at twenty feet what a normal eye sees at forty feet. If a person has 20/200 vision, they are legally blind. They only see at twenty feet what a normal eye sees at two hundred feet. If they have 20/15 vision, they see better than normal. They see at twenty feet what the normal eye would have to bring in to fifteen feet to see.

For children that do not know letters and numbers, they can be tested with the Tumbling E chart. To take this test, the child points his/her finger in the same direction as the E is pointing. Children who are younger than four may have trouble with this test so there are several different tests used to obtain a child’s accurate visual acuity.

Program Offered:

Lone Star is a tuition-free public high school that operates two sessions per day – morning and afternoon. Students have the opportunity to enroll in the four-hour session that best fits their personal schedule so they have the flexibility to earn a quality education while working, caring for family, or managing other commitments.

Once enrolled, the school works with the student to create a personalized academic plan to graduate, and immediately helps the student to start earning credits as his/her own pace. Courses are computer-based to help the student to focus and track progress, and certified teachers provide individualized support.

The school serves ages 16 to 21. Graduation ceremonies are held in June.

There is no cost to attend. All programs are free.

Jacksonville Children’s Chorus (Grades 2-12) – Auditioning Now for the Fall Semester of the 2020-21 Season!

JCC offers an exciting and unique music experience for children who have a passion for singing. The Jacksonville Children’s Chorus is beginning its new season on September 15th, 2020. Please encourage your aspiring singers to audition with us for the upcoming season if they are interested in enhancing their music education and opportunities.

While prior musical training is not necessary to participate, an audition is required for singers in grades 2-12. To ensure that we are keeping your health and safety our top priority, auditions can be scheduled virtually or in-person with social distancing and a mask required. There is no fee to audition. Need-based scholarships are available.

Auditions are quick and simple. There is no need to have a prepared audition piece.

Episcopal Early Learning Center at Good Shepherd is NOW ENROLLING children ages one year to five years and VPK!!

At ECS, we proactively work with young children and their families to build a strong educational foundation. We want them to be prepared to succeed in school and in life. It’s a “whole” child approach – we help kids grow intellectually, emotionally, physically and socially. Currently, we work with more than 27,000 children and families in eight counties in Northeast Florida – Baker, Bradford, Clay, Duval, Nassau, Putnam, St. Johns and Union.

The Town of Orange Park Farmer’s and Arts’ Market was created in September 2012. The market is run by The Town of Orange Park Events and Recreation Division. We have grown tremendously since our opening day. We now have over 100 vendors on a regular basis that offer a variety of homemade and homegrown products from local merchants, live entertainment, food on-site, and a great family atmosphere!

When is the market held? The market is held on most 1st and 3rd Sunday’s of each month from 11am-4pm. Some Sunday’s we’re closed due to special events or holidays. Our season runs from September through May and we are closed June, July, and August.

Where is the market located? The market is located on the busy corner of US17 and Kingsley Ave. 2042 Park Ave, Orange Park, FL 32073. This is an outdoor market and sometimes due to inclement weather the market may be closed. Just look for the large yellow signs!

What can you expect to find at the market? We offer a huge variety of quality handmade and homegrown items. You will find nearly anything your heart desires from locally grown honey, cupcakes, pies, salsa, granola, plants, produce, raw milk, eggs, cheeses, hand crafted jewelry, bird houses, pottery pieces, didgeridoos, soaps, and many many more handcrafted items!

Where do I park? Due to the success of our market, parking can, unfortunately, be problematic. We suggest parking at CVS/Winn Dixie and using the pedestrian crosswalks to enter the market. There is also parking at Town Hall off of US 17 and Smith St and Kingsley Ave- both of these areas offer limited parking.

How do I become a vendor? All vendors are required to fill out an application. Applications can be found on our website click here or you can pick up an application at Town Hall or our booth at the market.

This park is named after A. Philip Randolph who grew up in Jacksonville and became one of the most important figures of the Civil Rights Movement during the 1950s and 1960s. A life-size bronze statue of Olympic Gold Medallist and Dallas Cowboy star, Bob Hayes, was added to the park in November 2002. Hayes grew up in Jacksonville, less than a mile from the park. Park amenities include playscapes, an amphitheater, picnic tables, benches and restrooms.
