Mezza Restaurant and Bar is a neighborhood restaurant located in the Beaches Town Center in Neptune Beach. If you’ve been around Jacksonville for awhile, you may have known it as Mezza Luna, which has been a fixture of the beaches for more than 25 years. Owners, Niall and Nancy Falloon were partners in Mezza Luna before becoming sole owners in 2007. Last year, they changed the name to Mezza Restaurant and Bar to more accurately reflect the menu, which features contemporary American fare.

The lounge at Mezza Restaurant and Bar is where the wood fired oven is located, and every night from 5:00-6:30 pm they offer children 10 and under the opportunity to make their own pizzas. This is often the first beach we visit, primarily because of proximity to the Beaches Town Center. I told you I loved this place. The local, coastal vibe just makes me happy. When you are ready to put your toes in the sand, it is fairly easy to find public access parking. We seldom, if ever, pack a lunch when we go to Neptune Beach because you are just a short stroll to some pretty tasty restaurants. Our favorite stops on Neptune Beach days are MShack when we are in the mood for simple burger and fries, Poe’s Tavern, and, of course, Dreamette. Yes, I said Dreamette. There is a new location just behind the Starbucks. From Neptune Beach, you can get to Jarboe or Bull Park quickly by car or bike.

While prior musical training is not necessary to participate, an audition is required for singers in grades 2-12. To ensure that we are keeping your health and safety our top priority, auditions can be scheduled virtually or in-person with social distancing and a mask required. There is no fee to audition. Need-based scholarships are available.

The playground at J.P. Small Park was renamed in June 2007 to honor Eugene M. GLover. Mr. Glover, who passed away in 2006, was affectionately known by friends, colleagues and the young people he worked with as the “Gentle Giant.” He spent 42 years working in a variety of capacities for the PREC Department; most notably at J.P. Small Park, which was named for his high school coach and mentor. A sign has been erected in the park officially naming the playground for the former Stanton High School and Florida A&M University athlete and brother of the former sheriff, Nat Glover.

Confederate Playground is located near downtown, in the Springfield section of north Jacksonville. First named Dignan Park, for a chairman of the Board of Public Works, it opened in 1907 and contained the City’s first supervised playground. The United Confederate Veterans chose Jacksonville as the site for their twenty-fourth annual reunion in 1914, which was attended by an estimated 48,000 former Confederate soldiers. Many of the activities took place in the park, and five months later it was renamed, Confederate Park. Troops, many from the nearby Armory, used the playground portion of the park for drill grounds and tent/hut encampments during both World Wars. The playground was permanently established as a separate facility from Confederate Park in the 1950’s, and today provides open space and recreational facilities for residents of the Springfield and downtown communities.

Jacksonville Armada FC are an announced professional soccer team to be based in Jacksonville, Florida. They are scheduled to join the North American Soccer League (NASL) for the 2015 season. They will initially play their home games at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville in Downtown Jacksonville.

M3Zone … Motivating Maximum Movement! This unique after school program places a special emphasis on combating childhood obesity. The PRS Running Club of Jacksonville Florida was founded by a group of friends who felt that the Jacksonville running community needed a running club where, on any given day of the week, runners of all abilities could meet up with their friends for a hard run and a good time.

Unlike other running clubs in Jacksonville Florida, the PRS Running Club has its own coach, Paul McRae. Coach McRae, a legendary runner in the Jacksonville community, is a native of New Zealand and president of Personal Running Solutions, a local Jacksonville business that provides customized training plans and offers one on one training sessions. In fact, the symbol of the PRS Running Club, the running kiwi, affectionately known as “Paul”, is the national symbol of New Zealand, known for its ability to survive and persevere even in the most adverse of conditions and circumstances, qualities that are important to any runner. Coach McRae, who has run a 2:27:50 marathon, 1:04:35 half marathon, 28:53 10K and 13:57 5K, along with winning the inaugural Melbourne Marathon and hundreds of local races, attends most of the group runs providing encouragement, inspiration and insight.

The PRS Running Club, with a mission of promoting and encouraging running by educating the community about the benefits of long distance running and endurance athletics, has monthly social events, annual running retreats, puts on fun races to bring new people into running (like the Bold City Beer Run Series and the Krispy Kreme Challenge), and provides scholarships to deserving local high school athletes.

he Florida Striders is a non-profit organization of running enthusiasts who love to run, race and socialize! We were founded in 1978 by a group of runners who sought to promote running for health, fun, and competition with an emphasis on fun. Our members number in the hundreds, increasing every day.
