St. John’s Recovery Place (SJRP) was founded in 2018 with the vision to empower, to provide, to teach, to inspire, to give, to lead and to rebuild. We are a nationally recognized and fully-accredited Florida addiction and recovery center, located in beautiful Crescent City, Florida. Our location is one of the many things that sets us apart in providing quality, compassionate care for those struggling with substance use disorders, addiction to drugs or alcohol, and mental illness. Our compassionate staff works day and night to facilitate healing and recovery for people from all across the United States. Our campus is set on 8.4 sprawling acres of greenery with pristine views of Crescent Lake from the entire east side of our center. We encourage clients to consider drug and alcohol rehab in Florida despite the worries or fears you may have – at our recovery center, we focus on healing one day at a time.
Addiction treatment at SJRP is different and certainly not what you would find at a mainstream drug and alcohol rehab center. We provide clients with genuine, compassionate care and personalized treatment approaches that are designed to help them heal and recover from trauma, past history of abuse, mental illness or co-occurring disorders, as well as the wide range of underlying factors that may be at the root of their addiction problems. Our 21K square foot treatment center may seem big to new clients, but it is our goal to make each client that enters through our admission doors feel comfortable, safe, and at home. Clients are treated with compassion and care at our drug and alcohol detox. Florida has a bad name for substance use treatment, and our goal is to change how people feel when they consider treatment at our center. Our unique team of healthcare professionals is made up of licensed medical doctors, psychiatrists, addiction physicians, and nurse practitioners that are board-certified in treating substance use disorders, mental illness, and co-occurring conditions. Clients often come to SJRP suffering from depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, bipolar disorder, various personality disorders, and a wide range of co-occurring disorders that either contribute to their substance use or have sparked up as a result of their drug or alcohol use. Regardless of how the underlying disorder presented or why, our healthcare team is prepared to help clients establish an understanding of the underlying conditions impacting their lives and the tools that they can use to overcome these conditions without resorting to drugs or alcohol to cope and/or survive.
During their time at our Florida addiction and recovery center, SJRP clients will experience recovery in a new way in which many of them have never experienced before. Growing Together Behavioral Center is one of Jacksonville’s premier schools for children with autism and developmental disabilities. We pride ourselves on being a school where each child is treated as an individual, and educational plans are tailored to their personal needs.
For the 2018-2019 school year, we are excited to partner with 25 students with autism and other developmental disabilities, ages 3 through 15 years. For each child, we will offer a comprehensive educational and therapeutic program, specifically providing students with customized academic plans, while integrating proven, research-based behavioral strategies into every learning task. Our school is unique from the public school settings, as we are able to focus on the specific needs of each individual child, whether academic, life skills, or behavioral. We are also unique in that we offer year-round school and extremely low student to teacher ratio (largest class 6:2), both of which are proven methods to help our children work toward their highest level of learning.
At Growing Together we believe that all students affected by autism and other developmental disabilities can reach their fullest potential through an education based in structure, fun engagement with peers, and loving teachers and staff supporting and encouraging them daily. Each child’s individual strengths and challenges are continually assessed to direct the child’s teachers in selecting the best methodologies to target the child’s current needs. We believe that open communication between teachers, staff, and families is a must, and we have communication plans in place with each family to meet those needs.

The Center is more than a day care or child care. It is a developmentally appropriate, nationally accredited, program directed toward formal education for preschool children. We offer the free voluntary prekindergarten (VPK) program as well as Spanish, music, and movement education. VPK day care or afternoon care are available. Ultimate Beaches Guide: It just doesn’t feel quite like summer until we have made our first trip to Mickler’s Beach. Located on the south end of Ponte Vedra Beach, it is a beautiful, easy-to-navigate beach. The beach access point provides ample parking, restrooms, showers and a handicapped accessible dune walk-over. We always find amazing seashells and shark teeth walking along this beautiful stretch beach. It is not atypical to see fisherman pulling in some fairly impressive catch off the shoreline or find yourself strolling alongside a horseback rider. Some of our most idyllic days happened at Mickler’s. This beach is a bit out of the way, so we tend to pack a picnic lunch although you are just a short drive away from dining options off of A1A.
Scenic A1A: The four-lane roads of Ponte Vedra Beach narrow to two as nature takes over the ride. The first public beach in Ponte Vedra, a favorite of locals, lies two blocks east of A1A at the last traffic light you’ll see for 20 miles. On the right the turn street is called Mickler Road; on the left Ponta Vedra Boulevard. Even though there is no sign designating this hidden gem, take the left. Mickler’s Landing, pronounced “Myklers” by locals, a local favorite famous for its pink, coquina-sand stretches of beach, has no sign at all. So finding it is a special delight. The wooden walkway through the twenty-foot high sand dunes gives you the first inkling that a special place is about to be revealed.

Born and raised in a small town in Northern Italy between the Como lake and Milan Diana lived there for most of her life. Her parents and her region helped her appreciate food ant the food culture, therefore her roots. Food has always been an important part of her life, even more now that she lives far away from home.
After having moved in her 30s to Switzerland then to England, the Netherlands and to the States, she traveled back and forth during summer and Christmas and this allowed her to maintain her childhood friendships and the long life relationships.
Certified English as a Foreign Language teacher, she has a true passion for teaching. Having lived in five different countries and speaking five foreign languages has allowed her to embrace different cultures incorporating them in my cooking classes.
Today, she teaches cooking all around Jacksonville: private houses, clubhouses, retail shops and private venues. Collaborates with several chefs, restaurants and farms. She also teaches Italian and English as a foreign language online and is planning to a culinary tour to Italy in May 2021. She recently started virtual cooking classes to respond to the recent necessity of social distancing. She will be back to teaching in person end of summer.

Getting rid of all sensory input allows the ‘constantly-make-sure-you’re-not-dying’ part of your brain to chill out for a second. This lets the creative, relaxed part of your brain come out and play. Without the constant pressure of analyzing the world around you, your body lowers its levels of cortisol, the main chemical component of stress. When your levels of cortisol drop, your body begins releasing loads of endorphins, giving you a wonderful sense of well-being and happiness.
Not having to fight gravity lets your muscles, joints, and bones take a well-deserved break. Your body suddenly has loads of extra resources (usually spent supporting your weight, regulating temperature, and trying not to get speeding tickets), which it gets to focus on things like healing and resting.
Without old-man gravity pushing you down all the time, chronic and acute pain is relieved, and your muscles get to fully rest. Unlike lying on a mattress, lying in water allows blood to flow freely all throughout your body. There’s no need to readjust your position to get comfortable. Research shows that about 40 minutes into your float your brain stops producing its normal Alpha and Beta waves and starts going deeper into a Theta and even Delta state. The Jacksonville Axemen are a semi-professional rugby league team based in Jacksonville, Florida, U.S. They currently play in the USA Rugby League. They play their home games at Hodges Stadium at the University of North Florida.
We have classes for two, three and four year olds. Children must be two, three, or four by September 1 to be enrolled in these classes. We also have a Mothers Morning Out class for toddler’s age one year old and walking. Our hours are 9:00 a.m.- 1:00 p.m. For added convenience we have early morning available from 8:00-9:00 a.m. and extended day from 1:00-3:00 p.m. Contact the Preschool office at (904) 733-2027 for an enrollment packet or additional information. The Ortega Hills Playground is located in the Ortega Hills area across from the Jacksonville Naval Air Station. The name Ortega derives from Joseph de Ortega, a judge during the second Spanish occupation of Florida from 1783-1821. In 1804, when John McIntosh bought the plantation that is present-day Ortega, he named it for the judge who facilitated his purchase of the property. Development of Ortega Hills began in 1954, and Devco Inc. donated the land for the park to Duval County in 1959. In recent years the local Community Association, led by its tireless founder Charles Zilla, lobbied for a new park that resulted in a major renovation in 2001. Park usage then increased dramatically, as people rushed to use the new facilities, which included landscaping and a walking/jogging trail around the perimeter.

Ultimate Beaches Guide: When we want to immerse ourselves in the natural coastal environment, we head to Guana State Park. It is located just south of the Mickler’s Beach access. As with Hanna Park, there is an entry fee; but it is an even better deal at just $3.00 per vehicle up to 8 people. This beach access is gorgeous and provides ample parking. These beaches are beautiful coquina beaches, rich in sand and shells. We always find tons of oceanic wildlife enjoying the beaches with us. Beach access is open from 8 am until sunset every day. While there is not easy access to playgrounds, you can head across the street to enjoy education center and river/marsh hiking trails. Be sure to pack a picnic lunch and enjoy a day wrapped in nature.

In order to join the Pawsitive Reading program, children AND at least one parent/guardian must first attend a one-time Pawsitive Reading orientation. We offer several orientations each month. Upcoming orientation dates and sign-up links are below. Advance registration is required.
Please note: We are unable to offer Pawsitive Reading orientations in June and July due to JHS Summer Camp.
Orientations will take place in either the JHS Education Center or Conference Room (both are located upstairs, above the Adoption Center). Our address is 8464 Beach Blvd. Please arrive on time. The orientation will be around 40 minutes in length.
After attending an orientation, children and an adult chaperone may come to JHS to read to the animals anytime our Adoption Center is open (12pm-7pm on weekdays, 10am-5pm on weekends). Participants must sign in and out at the front desk when visiting JHS to read.
To ensure that our animals benefit from the program, we ask that readers spend at least 30 minutes reading – there is no maximum time limit.
Children may read to either dogs or cats and may bring their reading materials or borrow books from our Pawsitive Reading library.
Participants will receive a free book courtesy of The Jim Moran Foundation while supplies are available.

Owners of European Leather Gallery, Nancy and Dennis Kulm, have been married for more than 25 years. Their discovery of Stressless® furniture was by pure accident. Shortly after moving to Florida in 2001, they saw a Stressless® chair in a restaurant and bought one. About three months later, Dennis, who had a history of terrible back problems realized his back didn’t hurt anymore. The HEAL Foundation is a local non-profit organization in Northeast Florida. HEAL serves individuals and families living with Autism Spectrum Disorders. The Foundation serves as an outreach organization providing, educational programs and camps tailored to the needs of our Autism Community.
Over the past five years, HEAL is proud to have awarded over one million dollars to provide:
Grants to support camps, education, community programs
Classroom enhancements for local schools through grants
Educational seminars for parents, teachers and therapists

Autism Spectrum Disorders are characterized, in varying degrees, by difficulties in social interaction, verbal and nonverbal communication, and repetitive behaviors. The CDC reports that 1 in 50 individuals are diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder. The recent sharp rise in numbers of Autism has been described as an epidemic among children. Many with Autism also suffer from a constellation of illnesses, intestinal disorders and autoimmune diseases. The cause of Autism is a heavily debated subject; scientific researchers are looking into genetics and environmental causes.

Ringhaver Park is located in southwest Jacksonville, extending south from 118th Street, along the western border of the Ortega River. The City acquired the land comprising the park in 1971, 1972, 1996, and 2000. The park is named for Lambert C. Ringhaver (1910-1976), whose family made a memorial donation for the initial park development, which has grown from 36 acres in 1977 to 576 acres in 2003. Mr. Ringhaver was the founder of Ring Power Corp., and served as president of the Florida Forestry Association, as a trustee of Jacksonville University, and as president of the Greater Jacksonville Open for two terms. The multi-use park is home to the Westside Soccer Club and the Ortega Stream Valley nature area, which contains an 826-foot boardwalk along the Ortega River and a pier that may be used for launching kayaks and canoes.
