The Florida Surfing Association was created in 2003 as an organized body for surfing within the United States and specifically the State of Florida. Our mission is to further the sport of surfing to our members, their families and throughout the State of Florida.

General surf lessons will teach the basics of surfing from beginner to advanced. We will have one instructor per student. We also recommend a flexible “floating” schedule to maximize your investment as the surf conditions often have a direct impact on the success of the lesson. Usually we can predict the surf and coordinate with the right tide and sand bar about 1-3 days in advance.

Wilma’s Little People’s School was founded in 1973 by Dr. Kay Johnson in order to give students in Jacksonville University’s early childhood courses an opportunity to work with young children. It is named in honor of Wilma Price Smith (1918-1985) as a living memorial to her and her lifelong devotion to children.

It is Wilma’s Little People’s School mission that each child has the right to have a developmentally appropriate education. We believe that young children should have a relaxed and nurturing environment that is developmentally structured to meet their needs. Ultimate Beaches Guide: We find ourselves at Jacksonville Beach events all season long. It is a vibrant, bustling beach. There are so many fun festivals, concerts, and movie nights at the amphitheater. If you are heading out to enjoy the sand and waves on Jacksonville Beach, you will find ample parking across the beach; but be careful that you do not park in a restricted area. If you think your little one might need to get off the beach and stroll away from the sand for a time, this a terrific beach for you. There is a park on 9th Avenue North, Tall Pines Park, that can provide a nice change of pace. There are also easy-to-access public restrooms on 3rd Avenue North, 2nd Avenue North, and 5th Avenue North. It may sound crazy but my favorite eatery to frequent on my Jacksonville Beach days is a grocery store, Native Sun. This place makes delicious juices and has lots of yummy ready eat foods that are perfect to take with you. Atlantic Beach is a terrific beach to explore with families. Bull Park is located just a few blocks from the ocean and offers a picnic zone or alternate play area (shaded playground!) if you or your little one needs a break from the sand and surf. There is not a lot of parking located near the beach, so your best bet is to find parking at either Jack Russell Park, Bull Park, or the Beaches Town Center area and walk to the ocean. From most of the Atlantic Beach public access points, you are a short to medium size walk to the Beaches Town Center, where you can find lovely local dining options and shopping alike!

The springs can be adjusted to different resistance levels based on whatever is right for you. Oceanside Rotary Skate Park is located at 800 Seminole Road in Jack Russell Park. Anyone under 17 years of age is required to have a Waiver Consent Form signed by a parent or guardian and notarized before a sticker decal is issued for admission to the skate park.

Skate park hours are 8 am to 10 pm. During inclement weather, rain or the bowl is wet, the skate park will be closed.

Early Childhood – Kindergarten: The Playgarden is located just blocks from the beach, is a perfect place for children (preschooler to kindergarteners) to explore, grow and create. We focus on the whole child: head, heart, and hands. Our literacy-rich curriculum includes play, music, poetry, movement, bread-baking, gardening, painting, and frequent walks to the beach.

The Playgarden is very excited to offer a 2, 3 or 5-day Forest Waldorf inspired program to ages 4-6! Our students are fully immersed in all the outdoors has to offer. Jax Beach Surf Shop offers both private and group surf lessons along with stand up paddle boarding lessons. For adults and children ages 7 and up (parents must stay with children under 13 years of age). Lessons last 1 hour, 15 minutes and include the use of a soft surf board during the lesson and for the rest of the day, tutorial on how to surf, surfing safety, marine life awareness, rip current awareness, and surfing.

Peterbrooke founder and renowned chocolate expert, Phyllis Lockwood Geiger, opened her first chocolate shop in Jacksonville, Florida’s San Marco neighborhood in 1983. Named in honor of talented and troubled author Edgar Allan Poe, Poe’s Tavern first opened on Sullivan’s Island near Charleston, South Carolina in 2003, and expanded to north Florida in the summer of 2011. Poe’s brings its second store to Atlantic Beach, two blocks from the ocean at the intersection of Atlantic Boulevard and 3rd Street / A1A, 30 minutes due east of downtown Jacksonville. Inspired by our travels to Asia and memories of growing up, we all craved the unapologetic flavors of true Asian food—dumplings with bounce, spicy curries, crisp pork belly, and the list goes on. When in Asia, we knew the best dishes were on the streets from hawker stalls. At home, we turned to parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles to get a fix from generations-old comfort food recipes. We sought out restaurants in hopes of finding a gem, only to be disappointed 9 times out of 10.

Finally, it hit us—we had to redefine “eating Asian” in the states. From day one, the food was at the core of Hawkers Asian Street Fare—generations of Asian street food recipes have been passed down, some of which are still served on the streets of Asia. But there had to be more. We wanted to build a restaurant that would tell the story of the hawker experience in a subtle and design-conscious way. We wanted great drinks to pair with great food. Most importantly, we wanted to create a place that was high-energy, but approachable in a t-shirt or a sports coat.
